the great-grandfather of Noah. The Bible says that Enoch lived 365 years before he was taken by God. The text reads that Enoch "walked with God: and he was no more; for God took him" (Gen 5:21–24). Authorship
The Book of Enoch is an apocraphal and
pseudopigraphal collection of second century Jewish texts attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah (Genesis 5:18), which describes a group of fallen angels(called "the Grigori" -"Watchers") mating with humans to produce a race of giants (called "the Nephilim") (cf. Genesis 6:1-2). Enoch, the seventh patriarch in the book of Genesis, was the subject of abundant apocryphal literature, especially during the Hellenistic period of Judaism (3rd century BC to 3rd century AD). Background This book, from which, curiously enough, St Jude quotes as if it were history, shews how richly mythical the history of the mysterious antediluvian Enoch had become. It was probably written originally in Aramaic, by a native of Palestine, in the 2d c. B.C.. The precise date is not known. Apocryphal works are attributed to Enoch:
Book of Enoch, or simply the Book of Enoch, an
apocryphal book in the Ethiopic Bible that is usually dated between the third century BC and the first century AD.
Book of Enoch, an apocryphal book in the Old
Slavonic Bible usually dated to the first century AD. 3rd Book of Enoch, a Rabbinic text in Hebrew usually dated to the fifth century AD. Six Sections of the Book of Enoch
Book of Watchers – fallen angels (i.e. the watchers),
and their sin from which derived all the sins of men Book of the Giants – the giants (i.e. the children of the watchers) and their names. The extermination by the flood waters. It is also said that one of the watchers (Shemihaza) repented Book of Astronomy – explanation of the solar calendar of 364 days in relation to the moon Book of Dreams – visions of the flood and of the world history from creation to the coming of God’s Kingdom Epistle of Enoch – apocalypse of ten weeks Book of parables – the angelic hierarchy, astronomy and meteorology issues and presentation of a Son of Man who will act as the Messiah Summary The Book of Enoch contains many dreams and visions. Enoch prophesied the end of the age in which he lived, which came with Noah's Flood, and also the end of the next age and everything in between. He also spoke about fallen angels, Hell, the coming of the Elect One (Christ), the Bible, and the Millennial Age. The very first line in the book refers to the time of Great Tribulation which is also mentioned in Daniel, Matthew and the book of Revelation.
