1.- INTRODUCTION
1.1.- OBJECT
The purpose of the present document is to define the characteristics of a filter for water (prefiltered water)
Client: GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS LTD.
Order nº: PO18005311
Work nº: 9368/18
Quantity: 2
Denomination: 3 FTI - 3 AISI316L PN - 6 BE
Design flow: 5,3 m3/h
Estimate maximum flow per filter: 9 m3/h
Number of filtering elements: 3 units
Flow per cartridge filter: 1,77 m3/h
Selectivity: 5 microns
This filter is deseigned by the company FLUYTEC S.A., located in c/ Sakoni ,18 Bilbao, Bizkay, Spain.
The manufacturing will be according the drawings of this project.
For the design, calculation and construction of the vessel, it is used the ASME VIII Div. 1 code.
Furthermore, the vessel complies the current European Directive for pressure vessels 2014/68/EU.
1.5.- FLUID
The vessel contains water (prefiltered water) at the corresponding pressure and temperature.
According the European Directive for pressure vessels, 2014/68/EU, is a fluid type 2 non corrosive.
The material is appropriate for the fluid under the working conditions, being chemically resistant to corrosion,
and due to this, the corrosion allowance adopted is 0 mm.
Following the instructions of the ASME VIII design code, the hydrostatic test will be 1,3 times the design
pressure. According the European Directive for pressure vessels, the hydrostatic test must be 1,43 times
the design pressure.
Taken the most restrictive requirement for this project, the hydrostatic test will be 8,58 bar (g)
The next calculations has been done for reach this value during the test, keeping the safety margins related
with the mechanical elastic strenght limits of the material.
According the European Directive for pressure vessels, and for the type of fluid, design pressure and
volume, the vessel must not be marked CE.
P.V = 216 bar(g).litre
According to ASME and the European Directive for Pressure Vessels norms, the vessels must be identify
with a name plate that identifies the manufacturer or ites representative in the European Community.
The name plate will have the basic design data.
- Name of manufacturer or its representative.
- Manufacturing working number
- Main features.
- Password and date of registration.
2.1.- MATERIALS
The material used for the calculations and construction of the vessel is a stainless steel
with the characteristics described below according to ASME II tables.
A312 TP316L for welded pipes and A403 316L welded fittings
Tensile strength Yield strength Allowable stress
MECHANICAL VALUES 70 ksi 25 ksi 16,6 ksi
according ASME II 4827,59 bar 1724,14 bar 1144,83 bar
The quality control department ensures, during the manufacturing process, that the vessel construction
is carried out according to the design code and the materials and manufacturing methods are agreed
with the specifications in this project.
Inspections are carried out by the Quality and Control Department of the factory where the vessels
are made or as alternative, by a third party.
The vessel, once finished and before any superficial treatment, is submitted to an hydrostatic test of
8,58 bar (g).
During the test, the pressure is kept the time needed to examine the vessel checking the absence
of leaks or permanent deformations.

3.2.2.- REINFORCEMENTS FOR OPENINGS INLET AND OUTLET NOZZLES, N1,N2 IN SHELL
The drainage nozzle are commercial standard threaded nozzles 1/2" NPT 3000lbs female threaded
The main flange is a commercial standard flange 8" ANSI 150lbs B16.5 slip on raised face.SA182 F316L
The blind flange is a commercial standard blind flange 8" ANSI 150lbs Slip on raised face, SA182 F316L
The connection flanges are commercial standard flanges DN50 DIN 2576 PN10, SA182 F316L
Calculation according to ASME VIII div. 1 appendix 2.
3.7.3.- MOMENTS
3.7.3.1.- Moments for working conditions
J = 109,4 . Mo / E . t exp3 . KL . ( ln K )
Being,
Total moment acting on the flange for operating conditions, Mo = 8710 lbs. in.
Total moment acting on the flange for gasket seating, Mo = 8814 lbs. in.
Thickness of the flange, t = 18 mm = 0,71 in
Modulus of elasticity for the flange material at design temperature
(operating condition) or at atmospheric temperature (gasket seating
condition ), E = 210,00 Gpa = 30457917 psi
Rigidity factor for loose type flanges, KL = 0,20
Ratio of outside diameter of flange to inside diameter of flange, K = 3,01204819
The rigidity for the adopted thickness of the flange is lower than 1, then the flange is correct.
( 27 ) to = D . ( P . c . n / S . E ) exp 1/2
Being :
Plate thickness to , (mm.)
Diameter as per chart UG-34 , D= 212 mm.
Differential design pressure, P= 2,0 bar
Welding coefficient, E= 0,85
Maximum allowable stress, S= 1144,83 bar
Minimum required thickness in the shell, t min. = 0,655
Shell thickness without corrosion allowance, tr= 4
Coefficient depending on the type of connection, c, not being less than 0,2
c = 0,33 . m = 0,33 . ( t min. / tr ) = 0,06
Then, we choose c = 0,20
Distance between holes of cartridges, d = 69 mm.
Cartridge hole diameter, da = 25 mm.
Weakening factor, n = (d-da) / d = 1,568
Replacing in ( 7 ), we have:
Required thickness, e = 5,37 mm.
Corrosion allowance, C = 0 mm.
Theoretical minimum thickness = t mín. + C = 5,37 mm.
Thickness adopted, t = 10,00 mm.
