 Presenting new subject
What is the Passive Form?
The passive form is a special structure we use to change the focus of
an action.

 In Active sentences we put the focus on the subject doing an action.


This company employs 2000 people.

 In Passive sentences we put the focus on the object that receives an


action.
2000 people are employed by this company.
object

NOTA IMPORTANTE:
En las oraciones con Passive Voice el verbo se conjuga con el verbo to
be en el tiempo (present, past, future) y el principal verb en participle.
Regular verbs Irregular verbs

Examples:
Juan abre la puerta. John opens the door.
La puerta es abierta por Juan. The door is opened by John.

 Difference between active and passive voice:
 Doing and exercise
The active voice is the "normal" voice - the one that we use most of the time. In
the active voice, the object receives the action of the verb:

The cats eat mice.

The passive voice is less common. In the passive voice, the subject receives the
action of the verb.

Mice are eaten by the cats.

Observe how the object of the active verb becomes the subject of the passive
verb

A Relative Clause gives extra information


about a Noun
A Defining Relative clause: A Non-defining Relative clause:
tells you what a noun is. gives you more information about a
noun. It is separated from the rest
of the sentence with commas (,).
A paleontologist is a scientist The biggest fossil ever, which was
who studies fossils. found in Argentina, is a two-meter
leg bone from a dinosaur.
We use Relative pronouns:
Who for people
Which for animals and things
That for people, animal and things.
Ejemplo:
0. Retire: to stop working, especially because of age.
1. Qualification: an ability, experience, or quality that you need in
order to do a particular job or activity.
