CPut the verbs in brackets into the PAST
We use the Past simple:
when we know when something happened
(stated time)
e.g. I got up at 8:30 yesterday.
when the past action happened once and
is now finished
e.g. I ate dinner earlier.
to talk about people who are not alive any
more
e.g. My mum saw Elvis Presley. (He is
dead. She will never see him again.)
We use the Present Perfect:
when we don’t know when something
happened (unstated time)
e.g. My neighbours have recently
bought a new car.
when the action began in a specific time
but has not finished yet
e.g. I have studied English for four
years. (I am still a student.)
to talk about experiences
e.g. I have seen David Bowie in
concert. (He is still alive. I may see
him again.)
SIMPLE or the PRESENT PERFECT.
