The role of Health Workers in the Earthquake Disaster in Central Sulawesi

Earthquakes are vibrations or vibrations that occur on the surface of the earth due to the
sudden release of energy from inside which creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are usually
caused by the movement of the Earth's crust (Earth plate). October 28, 2018, a major disaster
occurred in Indonesia, precisely Central Sulawesi, Palu, Donggala. The 7.7SR earthquake
which was followed by a tsunami was able to destroy the land. Where in this incident victims
caused more than 1000 lives.

With the occurrence of these events, of course many people are affected by the event and
need immediate assistance both in terms of food, clothing or no less important than from a
health perspective. The role of health in this event is certainly very much needed both
physiologically and psychologically for the victims affected by the earthquake.

Health workers are needed, of course, from various fields such as nurses, doctors, midwives,
health nutrition environment and many more health professionals who are needed to save or
monitor the health of people affected by the event. In this event health workers are required to
be responsive to the situation and health workers must be capable of helping victims.

For example, in the field of nutrition health workers must continue to monitor the nutritional
intake needs of victims. Making a nutritious food menu but in a limited food stock is a big
burden for volunteer health workers in terms of nutrition in the event.

The manufacture of environmental sanitation is also an important thing that must be

considered during the post-disaster process. Environmental sanitation is a basic human need
so that in this case special attention must be paid. Making a public bathroom is certainly very
important in terms of environmental sanitation.

In terms of psychological health, of course many people who suffer from trauma after this
disaster occur mainly in children. Of course this is also a duty for health workers to shift the
focus of the children so that they are not traumatized by the disaster.
