Text Structure
 Pattern of organization

Diff. Text Structures:


 Chronological: Tells a story in order. Signal words: first, during, next and finally
 Cause and Effect: examines the similarities and differences between subject/s.
 Compare and Contrast: How 2 things are similar and different.
 Problem and Solution: a problem and an answer is suggested.
 Sequence: step by step process.

Text Structure
 Used by writers for presenting action.
 Used by writers to support ideas with anecdotes.

Narration
 Tells a story or explains a sequence of events. It can be fiction or non-fiction.
 Examples:
1) Novels
2) Screenplays
3) Biographies
4) History Books
5) Accident Report
Narration
 Its goal is not only to retell everything that happened but rather to screen and present
Details which explain the significant of the event.

Two kinds of Narration:


 Objective Narration: Presents facts to create an accurate timeline of events.
 Subjective Narration: Conveys the impression, feelings, insights, or point of view.

Narratives
 Retell a post event.
 Presented using the strategies: flashback and flashforwards.

Definition
 Used in explaining unfamiliar terms.
 Two major purposes: Explain and Convince.

Types of Definition:
 Standard Definition: which meaningly rarely change and is universally accepted.
 Regulatory Definition: assigned by organization and changes depending on how it is used.
 Qualifying Definition: meaning of words that are subject for for interpretation.
 Personal Definition: assigned meanings of the writer himself.
 Invented Definition: which are newly joined as already being used by the society.

Classification:
 Is one of the strategies in which involves combining objects or items into categories
Based on distinct characteristic.

Thesis Statement:
 Every paper you write should have a main point, a main idea, or a central Message.
 Is the sentence that captures your position on this Main idea.

How long does it need to be:


 Focuses into one or two sentences.

Thesis Statement:
 A point that an essay is trying to prove.
 It is the important part of the essay.
 A road map of paper
 Directly the question asked to you.

Expository: something to explain or describe.


Argumentative: is debatable and supported by evidence.
