The Strategy of Production Improvement in The Medium-Sized Shipyard to Support the Tol Laut Programme

The maritime highway concept in Indonesia, namely Tol Laut, is the momentum for the development of the national
shipbuilding industry. However, the low level of productivity and capacity causes the national shipbuilding
industry to be uncompetitive, especially medium-sized shipyards in the Surabaya area. By implementing the
one-piece flow in the production process, the amount of inventory can be minimized, in addition, inventory can be
controlled. Value stream mapping a development system is designed to follow the one-piece flow, this will bring
change by grouping work to process material in one line so that the process can be carried out continuously. After
improving, the results obtained if previously one block was worked out 19 days to 13 days, this means giving 6.2
percent or 6 days faster than the previous process, then the effect of resource use, in this case, the Man Hour has an
effect quite significant to the overall production system by 67 percent, this shows that with the application of One
Piece Flow provides significant changes to the entire ship production process. One-Piece Flow is very possible to be
applied in medium-sized shipyards so that it can increase the productivity of shipyards in supporting the sea highway
program.
