Ellen Wright English Paragraphs October 8th 2018

When I was younger, I always wanted a dog. Once I turned 6, I finally got one. Originally my
mother was dead set on not getting a dog, but with the constant nagging of me and my Dad, she finally
relented. Once we decided to get a dog, the next step was deciding what breed to get. For us, this was
probably the hardest part of getting a dog given that the three of us wanted drastically different things.
This remained unresolved until one particular trip to Utah three weeks later where we decided to get a
Chihuahua after visiting my aunt and her dogs. The very day we returned, my dad contacted a local
breeder and arranged to meet the next morning. I remember being so ecstatic that night, I barely slept
a wink. As soon as we entered the breeder’s house, we were immediately greeted by at least ½ dozen
small dogs scratching, licking, and barking at us. We spent a fair share of the day with the dogs, trying to
pick the dog best suited for our family, and eventually we decided to get a small dog around ½ arm in
length the color palette of a marshmallow. On the car ride home, we decided that it was a good idea to
keep the name the breeder gave him, which was Pepper. This was a good choice as it was the only
name he responded to. After spending the day with him, we came to a rather disturbing realization,
Pepper was oddly violent with children, specifically, me. My parents were at a crossroads, on one end,
they were concerned for my safety as well as that of the neighborhood kids, but on the other hand, in
the time I’d spent with Pepper I’d already grown incredibly attached to him and was distraught at the
though of taking him back. Seeing how fond I’d grown of the dog in such a short period of time, my
parents decided that we would keep him. To this day, I’m incredibly happy that we decided to let him
stay, because while he does bite my ankles every chance he gets and can be very grumpy at times, I still
love him all the same.

In many ways, I’m like both my parents, but if I had to choose one I’m most similar to it would
be my mother. Maybe it’s because I’ve lived with her for so long I’ve picked up a plethora of her habits
and tendencies. To start off, me and my mother are both moderately introverted. When called for, I
can be sociable, but after an extended period of time, I have to find corner to go hide in. Also, we both
love to read. I’m not 100% sure but I’m guessing that stems from my mother reading to me so much as
a child. Over the years, I’ve also noticed that our vocabularies have become quite similar. When I’m
talking to my friends or anyone my age, it’s not really apparent, but whenever someone overhears us
having a conversation it’s not that unusual to have them comment on how alike we look or sound. As I
mentioned in the last sentence, my mother and I are also quite similar in appearance. Obviously
considering her age we aren’t all that similar except for certain facial features and hair, but if you look at
a picture of her at my age I’m almost a carbon copy of her. All in all, my mother has shaped me into the
person I am today and I’m lucky to have her in my life.

While I don’t, do it often, when I clean my room, I have a very meticulous process. The first
thing I do is gather all of the supplies I’ll need to clean, such as garbage bags and glass cleaner. Next, I’ll
clean everything off of my bed and make it. I do this first because once the bed is made it gives the
room a much cleaner feel. The second thing I do is clear all my clothes from my room and put them into
my laundry basket to wash later. After that, I clear all the garbage I’ve accumulated and put it into a
garbage bag. This step usually takes the longest because I don’t throw things away often. The fourth
thing I do is clear everything off the floor and vacuum. If I’ve cleaned my room in the past week I usually
skip this step. After I vacuum I’ll put everything back in its place and organize the rest of the room. I
really enjoy this part of the process due to the fact that it doesn’t take a lot of effort and lets me get a
bit creative. Finally, if they’re dirty enough, I’ll clean all of the mirrors and windows. In conclusion even
though cleaning my room isn’t my favorite thing to do, having a process makes it a lot more enjoyable.
