THE MASTER EXAMINATION i You must become familiar with the type of exam you are going to take, Make sure you know what subjects are covered on the exam. Find out all you can, how many questions will be asked? What | . multiple-choice, rue-fulse, fill inthe blank? Show your work or computer graded? What is the time allowed for the exam’? What score is required to pass? These are some of the questions that will help you in your preparation. Get a blueprint of the exam you are to take. Exams are based on time, You may have one hour to answer 50 closed book questions or two hours to answer 70 open book questions or three hours to answer 30 calculations. The following is a typical exam format used today. Part IIT preparation requires the book “Calculations for the Electrical Exam’ by Tom Henry. By Tom Henry Fi PREPARING FOR A CLOSED BOOK EXAM Part I Closed Book This part of the test is where common sense, apprenticeship and years on the job are helpful. Safety type questions are asked, questions on practical knowledge as the proper connections to a switch Circuit. Ohms law and basic theory questions are asked in Part I closed book. If they want to make the closed book exam more difficult, they ask questions from the Code book. Definitions from Article 100 are a favorite closed book question as they expect the electrician to know the definitions. Prior “tothe exam the last thing the applicant should do is scan Article 100 in the Code. Try to retain as many definitions as you can. The first part of the exam that you are handed is Part I which contains definitions closed book. A time limit of one hour is allowed to answer the 50 closed book questions. The 50 questions can be answered easily in less than an hour. It's very simple, either you know the answer or you don't. It doesn't help to sit and scratch your head pondering over the contect answer. It has been proven in test taking that the longer you hesitate in selecting the choice, the more likely you are to talk yourself out of the correct answer. Read the question and the choice of answers carefully and select your choice and move to the next question. Afier applying the work required by this book you will be able to answer the SO questions in twenty tothirty minutes, When Part lis completed raise your hand and ask for Part Hl of the exam.
