NGCP STUDENT TRAINEESHIP PROGRAM

PART I: INTRODUCTION (state why you choose NGCP as part of your initial
career experience)

I have chosen NGCP as a part of my initial career experience for the

following reasons: First, it will help me to become familiar with my future work
environment; Second, it will teach me various principles and knowledge regarding
the field of engineering; Third, it will show me how to form a bond with my
colleagues and fellow on-the-job trainees thus developing my interpersonal skills;
Lastly, it will help me to develop my moral, confidence and character with regards
to the work which later on, I wanted to pursue.

PART II: BODY (work experiences and knowledge/ skills acquired at the division/
department/ group where you were deployed including duration)

In the span of 360 hours or 45 days of being a student trainee at NGCP’s

internship program, I have been assigned in the relay section under Maintenance
and Testing Division B. During the course of my training, I have learnt various
knowledge, skills and experiences such as understanding circuit diagrams,
knowing the different parts, functions and operations of a substation. Also, I have
learnt basic troubleshooting, resetting and reconfiguration of relays as well as
function testings of substation components. Moreover, I have taken part in some
preventive and corrective maintenance activities as well as in commissionings by
providing some technical assistance.
On the other hand, I have also taken part in some interdepartmental
activities such as in testing of transformers and arresters as well as oil sampling in
the testing section. Moreover, I have also taken part in some meter assembly,
testing, wiring and reading in the metering section. In addition, I have also been in
some lifestyle and recreational activities conducted by the division.

PART III: RECOMMENDATION (suggestions to further improve the program)

To further improve the quality of the internship program offered, I will

recommend to provide a module for the students for them to read as well as to
answer during their free times. I will also recommend to conduct rotations within
departments so that the student trainees would have a broader knowledge
regarding the different aspects of the division. In addition, I will also recommend
providing a schedule of lectures and field works at least once a week for them to
witness the correlation between the two.
