TITLE OF THE PROJECT

A Study on Six Sigma Training Program in IBM with Reference to IT Industry

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Six sigma processes in the organization involves a lot of planning and efforts in order to be
effective. Moreover, it includes huge costs. In order to know whether the six sigma program has
met its objectives or not, the management needs to calculate its effectiveness.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To study the impact of six sigma training program on service quality.

 To determine the satisfaction levels of the employees on the training program process
using six sigma provided to them.
 To study the gaps in employees effectiveness before and after the six sigma training
sessions conducted by the company.
 To find out measures to improve the quality of six sigma training program to be
conducted on future employees.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problem. The

Research Methodology includes the various methods and techniques for conducting a
research. Research is an art of scientific investigation. In other word research is a
scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. The logic
behind taking research methodology into consideration is that one can have
knowledge about the method and procedure adopted for achievement of objective of the
project.
NATURE OF RESEARCH
The study is descriptive and analytical in nature.

AREA OF RESEARCH:

New Delhi

UNIVERSE AND SAMPLE SIZE:

NCR region have been taken as universe of the study. Simple random sampling technique
is used and sample of 100 respondents has been taken for the purpose of the study. Simple random
sampling technique is used for collecting the data from different respondents.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS:

Interview and questionnaire have been used to conduct the study. A structured questionnaire
consisting close-ended questions have been made, which is filled by the trainee during direct
interaction with the respondents.

DATA COLLECTION

The study is based mainly on primary data.

Primary data sources:

Primary data is collected through the issue of questionnaire to the employees working at IBM.
For this project the primary data is collected in four ways:

a) Through observations

b) Through discussion (Department Heads & Executives)

c) Through questionnaires

d) Through sampling procedure

Secondary Sources:

Secondary data is the data that collect from the historical/existing sources of data as databases,
journals such as Articles, Journals, Magazines and Quality Management Text books, articles,
research reports, websites related to six sigma and employees training methods.

DATA ANALYSIS:

The data analysis is done using suitable tables, charts, graphs, percentages and other suitable
tools.

STATISTICAL TOOLS:
Statistical techniques are to obtain findings and average information in logical sequence from
the raw data collected. After tabulation of data research have used the following quantitative
technique.

 Percentage analysis
 Charts

 PERCENTAGE ANALYSIS
Percentage refers to special kind of ratio. This method is used as making comparsion between
two or more services of data. Percentage are used to decidable relationship. Percentage can
also used to compare thge relative terries, the distribution of two or more services of data
 CHARTS
Bar charts and pie charts are used to get a clear look at the tabulated data.

COMPANY NAME:
IBM

COMPANY PROFILE:
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) is an American multinational information
technology company headquartered in Armonk, New York, with operations in over 170
countries. The company began in 1911, founded in Endicott, New York, as the Computing-
Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) and was renamed "International Business Machines" in
1924.

IBM produces and sells computer hardware, middleware and software, and provides hosting and
consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology. IBM is also
a major research organization, holding the record for most U.S. patents generated by a business
(as of 2019) for 26 consecutive years. Inventions by IBM include the automated teller machine
(ATM), the floppy disk, the hard disk drive, the magnetic stripe card, the relational database, the
SQL programming language, the UPC barcode, and dynamic random-access memory (DRAM).
The IBM mainframe, exemplified by the System/360, was the dominant computing platform
during the 1960s and 1970s.

IBM has continually shifted business operations by focusing on higher-value, more profitable
markets. This includes spinning off printer manufacturer Lexmark in 1991 and the sale of
personal computer (ThinkPad/ThinkCentre) and x86-based server businesses to Lenovo (in 2005
and 2014, respectively), and acquiring companies such as PwC Consulting (2002), SPSS (2009),
The Weather Company (2016), and Red Hat (agreement announced in October 2018, actual
acquisition to be in the second half of 2019). Also in 2014, IBM announced that it would go
"fabless", continuing to design semiconductors, but offloading manufacturing to Global
Foundries.
