Chapter 1

THE PHILIPPINE CODE OF ETHICS

ARTICLE 1

HIS ROLE

RULE 1
As registered Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, he should cherish. A proper
pride in his calling and shall conduct himself as a gentleman. He shall endeavor to
discharge his duties and responsibilities and carry on his professional obligations in
the spirit of fairness, justice and courtesy.

RULE 2
He shall uphold the honor and dignity of his profession and refrain from associating
himself with, or allowing the use of his name by, any individual or enterprise of
questionable.

RULE 3
It shall be his prime duty to interest himself in public welfares and shall always be
ready to apply his technical knowledge, skill in training for the use and benefit of
mankind.

RULE 4
He shall not advise his work or merit in a self laudatory manner and shall avoid any
conduct or practices likely to discredit to injury to the dignity of his profession.

RULE 5
He shall endeavor to offer every reasonable opportunity for professional
advancement of those under his direction to upgrade and increase their knowledge
and experience.
ARTICLE 2

HIS RELATION WITH THE PUBLIC

RULE 6
He shall only express opinions that are founded on adequate knowledge of Naval
Architecture and Marine Engineering and his honest conviction as an individual when
called upon as a witness before a curt, commissions or tribunal.

RULE 7
He shall not make ex-prate statement, criticism, on matters connected with the public
which is inspired or paid for by private interest, unless he indicates on whose behalf
that he making the statement.

RULE 8
He shall refrain from expressing publicity opinions on any Naval Architecture and
Marine Engineering subject, unless he is will informed as to the facts relating there to.

RULE 9
He shall strive to win the respect and confidence of the public; and should he be in
private or business, or in public office, he shall always bear in mind that in such a
position he is an important public functions.

RULE 10
He shall guard against conditions that are dangerous or threatening to life limb and
property on any work for which promptly bring such conditions to the attention of
those responsible therefore.
ARTICLE 3

HIS RELATIONS WITH CLIENTS, EMPLOYEES OR EMPLOYERS

RULE 1.1
He shall observe punctuality in appointments, discharge of duties, fulfillments of
contrast and in any other relationship with employees or employers.

RULE 1.2
He shall not venture to undertake any work or contrast to accept employment, which
he cannot reasonably expect to complete or discharge with outmost professional
competence.

RULE 1.3
He shall regard any confidential information obtained by him as to the business
affairs, technical method or processes of his clients, employees or employers.

RULE 1.4
He shall promptly, inform his clients, employees or employers of any business
interest or affiliation he has connections with which might affect or influence his
judgment or impair the quality or status of his services.

RULE 1.5
He shall present clearly the consequences, limitations and or risks that may arise if
his professional judgment or work which his responsible is over ruled especially by
non-technical authority.
ARTICLE 4

HIS REPUATION WITH HIS COLLEAGUES AND ASSOCIATIVES

RULE 1.6
He shall not use unfair to gain professional advancement or to injure opportunity to
his colleagues and associate to secure and hold employments instead he shall
improve conditions and external supports when needed.

RULE 1.7
He shall refrain from using improper or questionable methods of soliciting
employment professional works or contrast and shall decline to pa or to accept
commissions for securing such employment, works or contrast.

RULE 1.8
He shall not resort to unfair competition by underbidding through reduction of the
usual fees on the basis of charges of work after acquiring information us o he fees
offered by his colleagues for similar services.

RULE 1.9
He shall be receptive to new ideas and suggestions from other quarters and ready o
recognize encourage and accredit there with those to whom credit is properly due.

RULE 2.0
He shall observe and adhere to reasonable or adequate compensations from his
work in order to maintain the standard of his professions and shall accept
compensation financial or otherwise for a particular service from on source only;
otherwise I should be with the full knowledge and consent of all interest parties.

RULE 2.1
He shall refrain from committing acts that are inimical or that bend to injure the
professional reputation prospects or practice of his Naval Architecture. However if he
sufficient grounds to believe that any of his colleagues have committed unethical,
illegal or unfair acts in he practice of the profession, he may bring the same to the
attention of he professional board of the professional board of the concerned
authority for appropriate action.

RULE 2.2
He shall refrain from if not avoid entirely criticizing another’s work in public, bearing in mind
the fact that technological and engineering societies and publications will
provide the proper forum for technical discussions and criticism.
ARTICLE 5

HIS RELATIONS WITH THE INDIVIDUALS,


THE PROFESSION AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS

RULE 2.3
He shall endeavor to create opportunities for continuing professionals education CPE
through continuous research and reading of technical manuals or publications,
attending technical seminars, exchanging general information and experiences with
his fellow Naval Architects, other professional Engineers, and students, whenever
possible he shall contribute to the work of technical societies, societies, schools of
applied sciences and scientific and Engineering press.

RULE 2.4
He shall endeavor to encourage and disseminate public knowledge of the Naval
Architects and Marine Engineering profession, avoid misleading statements and
discourage, of not such, the spread of untrue, unfair, and exaggerated statements in
relation there to.

RULE 2.5
He shall harmony cooperation among his colleagues and Co-professional and shall
actively involve himself with the legitimate organizations of his profession as well as
other professional organizations or associations.
