 El uso del <that> es opcional.

Ej: He said that he cooked dinner = He said he cooked dinner

Said: Se utiliza para las frases en la cual solo una persona dice algo.
Ej: We aren´t good students
-> He said that they weren’t good students
Ej: I´m sorry I didn’t tell you about my plans
-> She said she was sorry because she hadn’t told me about her plans

Told: Se utiliza cuando una persona le dice algo a otra, es por eso
que se colocan 2 personas en la oración.
Ej: I´m happy
-> She told me that she was happy
Ej: Mary won´t see this movie
-> She told him Mary wouldn’t see that movie
