K-6 Severe Methods COACH Interview Reflection

I enjoyed this interview more than my last. I conducted this interview in the child’s

home. I noticed that doing the interview at the child’s home, makes the experience better.

There is a stronger sense of connection and trust both with the parent and child.

Conversation flowed easier, and we were able to talk about specific topics in a greater

sense, I was able to connect to the mother’s feelings and emotions more. A story she told

me that I was appalled by was her experience in switching from Brown Bear Elementary

to Longview Elementary. Kris started at Longview elementary. Kris was treated poorly at

Canyon View Elementary, accommodations weren’t meant and the teacher told the

mother, “I cannot say anything good about your child.”

The mother expressed the biggest concern over Kris’s health and safety. The mother

said that Kris has no fear. Kris does not recognize and avoids potential danger, nor

maintains safe and healthy behaviors. This is a priority the mom wants worked on at

home and in the school setting as much as possible. Another high priority for Kris is

adjusting to unexpected changes in routine effectively and making transitions between

routine activities smooth. Lastly academic goals for Kris this year include

reading/decoding words and phrases, as well as computing numbers.
