III. Procedure
A. Prayer/Review of Past Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activity
 Everybody stand. Officers of the day come  Are you ready classmates? (Officer of the day)
forward.
 “Yes we are ready.”
 Let us pray
 (For the Christians) In the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
(Our Father Prayer)
 (Prayer for the Muslims)
 Good Morning Class.  Good morning ma’am Daby, good morning
classmates, good morning everybody.
Mabuhay!
 What did we do last meeting?  We had a quiz bee about the measures of central
tendency and measure of variability of grouped
 In measures of central tendency, we have the? data.
 How about the measures of variability?
 We are done with the measures of central  Mean, median and mode.
tendency and measures of variability of  Range, mean deviation, standard deviation, and
grouped and ungrouped data. Now let’s move variance.
on.
B. Lesson Proper
i. Motivation

 Class look. What do we have here? Guess  A folder.

what?
 Yes a folder. But behind this folder is a picture
of something that we love/like in common.
 It is a picture of food! Or a menu.
 Today we will have a group activity.
 Every group will be given 1 marker, ½ Manila
paper and a menu of snacks and drinks.
 Daby wants to buy a snack. With the menu
below, what are the possible pair of food and
drink Daby would order?
 What are you going to do?  Find all the possible pair of food and drink
 You will be rated with the following criteria: Daby would order.
Teamwork: 25%
Output: 45%
Creativity: 10%
Presentation: 20%
 A total of 100%. You will be given 15
minutes to do that.
 Choose a one representative to get the
materials and one reporter to present your
work.
 Are we clear with the instructions? Any  None Ma’am.
questions or clarifications?
 If none then go to your group. Front rows,
silently move your chairs.
 Representatives for every group please come  (Representatives get their respective materials.)
forward and get the materials.
 (Distributes the materials.)
 Take note of how your group will be rated.
 Ready, set, your time starts now.
(Teacher roams around to assess the students.)
 (After 10 minutes) Are you done?  Not yet Ma’am.
 You have 5 minutes left.
 (After 3 minutes.) All done? All groups please  (All groups post their presentations.)
post your outputs. And please arrange your
chairs.
 Our first presenter is the Group 1.  (Clapping their hands.)
 Let us give them a hand.  (Group 1 presenting)

ii. Discussion
 With our menu, we could have 4 pairs of a
snack and drinks. Large Fries & Pineapple
juice, Large Fries & Coke, Chicken Spag &
Coke, Chicken Spag & Pineapple juice.
 If I were to choose, I would have  Large Fries & Pineapple juice Ma’am.
ChickenSpag and Coke. How about you (calls
student A.)
 Now if we are going to ask Kenneth if which  No Ma’am.
of the 4 pairs would he want, are we certain
that he/she would also want Large Fries &
Pineapple juice?
 Yes, we can never be certain if what will
happen especially if it is unpredictable.
 Life is full of uncertainties. We are never sure
what will happen next.
 We have talked about the certainty or how  No Ma’am.
likely a situation could happen. Do you think
it can be measured? Do you think we can
measure the certainties/possibilities of things?
 Yes it can. And it is another branch of
mathematics. The measure or estimation of
how likely it is that an event/situation can
occur is called Probability. (Post the
definition of probability.)
 For today’s session, our goal is that you my
students can (1) define what is a probability,
an outcome, and sample space (2)) identify
outcomes and sample space of an event.
 Outcomes is simply the result. In your  Expected answer: the large Fries & Pineapple
outputs, in pairing the snacks and drinks what juice, the large Fries & Coke, the
could our outcomes be? chickenSpag & Coke, the chicken Spag &
Pineapple juice.

 That’s right. Our outcomes are the large Fries

& Pineapple juice, the large Fries & Coke, the
chickenSpag & Coke, the chicken Spag &
Pineapple juice.
 If the sample space is defined as the set of all  It would be the four pairs of snacks and drinks
the outcomes, given your outputs, what would ma’am.
our sample space be?
 Yes that’s right. It would be the 4 pairs of
snacks and drinks.
 A sample space can be written in sets. Let’s
use letter F, F for food. To make our sample
space simple, let’s use the Letters A and B for
the drinks and numbers 1 and 2 for
determining the snacks.
Set F = {1B, 1A, 2A, 2B}
Note that in writing a sample space, it must be
enclosed with a bracket.
 (If there is a table from the outputs of the
students, it will be used as an example, if
none, then proceed.)
 Now, given our menu, let’s construct a table.
You are very familiar of a Punnet Square  Yes Ma’am.

iii. Application
 Let’s try this problem.
Dexter is having a hard time choosing of what
to wear for his post-Valentines date. He has a
round shirt and a V-neck shirt, for upper. For
lower, black Jeans, blue jeans and a cargo
shorts.

 Can you help Dexter pair the shirts to the

jeans and shorts?  Yes Ma’am!
 Now who wants to volunteer to pair them
up using a table?  (Raise their hands.)
 Yes, (student’s name).
 (Student’s expected answer.)

Black Blue Cargo

Jeans Jeans Shorts
Round Round Round Round
Shirt Shirt & Shirt & Shirt &
Black Blue Cargo
Jeans Jeans Shorts
V-neck V-neck V-neck V-neck
Shirt Shirt & Shirt & Shirt &
Black Blue Cargo
Jeans Jeans Shorts

 Okay, now who can identify the outcomes?

 A Round Shirt & Black Jeans, Round Shirt &
Blue Jeans, Round Shirt & Cargo Shorts,
Round Shirt & Cargo Shorts, V-neck Shirt &
 That’s right, now if we let D as the Set, Blue Jeans, and V-neck Shirt & Cargo Shorts.
who wants to volunteer to write the sample
space on the chalk board.  (Raise their hands.)
 Okay (student’s name).

 Set D = { Round Shirt & Black Jeans, Round

Shirt & Blue Jeans, Round Shirt & Cargo
Shorts, Round Shirt & Cargo Shorts, V-neck
Shirt & Blue Jeans, V-neck Shirt & Cargo
C. Generalization
Shorts}
 Which of the outcomes will Dexter choose?
 Yes, we are not certain of what will Dexter
choose to wear. However we can measure  We don’t know Ma’am.
how likely it is that he will choose the
Round Shirt & Black Jeans, or the Round
Shirt & Blue Jeans, or the Round Shirt &
Cargo Shorts, or the Round Shirt & Cargo
Shorts, V-neck Shirt & Blue Jeans, and V-
neck Shirt & Cargo Shorts
 The measure or estimation of how likely it
is that an event/situation will occur is the?
 Outcomes is simply the?  Probability.
 And the sample space is the?
 Now going back to our objectives for  Results.
today, can you now define a probability,  List of all possible outcomes.
outcomes and sample space?  Yes Ma’am.
 Any questions or clarifications?
 To be certain that we have really achieved
our objectives for today’s lesson, get ¼  None Ma’am.
sheet of paper, we will have a short quiz.

IV. Evaluation
Elizabeth is about to attend a prom. She has 3 dresses and 3 shoes to choose from:

Green Dress Yellow Dress Blue Dress Green shoes Yellow shoes Blue shoes
1. What are the possible outcomes?
2. If we let E as the Set, write the sample space.

V. Assignment
