• The article is mostly about how we can help the planet by
growing our own food and eating locally and in-season
• Humans are not like animals because we can use the earth’s
resources in ways other animals cannot.
• If you grow your own food you will know where your food
comes from, and it will be fresh.
 • If you buy your food locally you are helping your community.

“Nothing Fresh in Sight” by Readworks
• The article is mostly about how many people don’t have an easy
access to healthy food, and how people are taking steps to change
that.
• Three pieces of information from the text is 46% of stores started
stocking more produce,32% of stores found that customers
bought more fruit, and 26% bought vegetables.
• The gardening program lets kids see, touch, and taste vegetables.
• An affect that Michael had from an after-school activity is eating
more nutritious meals because of the after-school activities.

• Problem: Hundreds of different food crops are raised in the
Central Valley, but the Central Valley has little access to fruit of
their own area. 12 food deserts in the Fresno County.
• Food desert: lack of access of fresh produce (no chemicals, and
picked within a timely manner).
• Solution: Food Commons Fresno created OOOBY produce boxes
