Our group focused on marketing the Local First Coupon Book to millennials and

high schoolers. We used modern and popular social media sites to help promote and
increase the use of coupons to get great deals. We created two media advertisements
in the form of a video and a digital art piece to post on Local First’s Instagram. I feel that
I contributed to the success of this project and made sure it was a fun group effort. I am
very creative, and I understand that a collaboration like this should incorporate
everyone's ideas, so the final product reflects the team effort, and everyone is heard.

I really learned a lot from the Local First project. It helped me to understand
advertising; and that it's a challenging industry. When you’re designing an ad or
promotion, you have to take into consideration so many elements: your target audience
and how to interest them, visual appeal, choosing colors and concepts, and
implementation. I also learned so much about local non-profit organizations and
companies in Durango. I learned that we need all of our local businesses to support the
community. Local businesses volunteer, donate and benefit non-profits and help
support them. This project was really fun and creative. If I work on marketing and
advertising projects in the future, I know exactly how to get started and what makes
them successful.
