Rahula Tawalandana grew up in Sri Lanka.

He came to India as a young man, with a group

of Buddhist pilgrims and decided to stay back to complete his Diploma in Fine Arts - Sculp-
ture from the College of Arts, New Delhi. His love for travel and adventure led him to a
group of pilgrims who went by road till Germany. There, he met his future employer at an art
gallery. For the next 6 years he worked as a sculptor and modeler with the Medal Factory in
Bund, Germany, creating various types of medals and working with different forms of media,
before returning to India after the factory burned down in an accident.

Next stop was Dubai, GEMS group of schools. He joined this prestigious institution as an
Arts & Craft teacher. Helping children learn and discover the joys of creation, gave him im-
mense satisfaction. Apart from his responsibilities as a teacher, he was also in charge of stage
decoration for musical concerts and theatrical productions like Matilda, War Horse, Lion
King and many, many more.

Rahula’s works have been exhibited and put on display at several places, but the Triennial
International Exhibition in India, remains his personal favorite. He currently stays in the city
of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, with his wife and continues to nurture his passion for sculpting
and painting. He aspires to create more stunning work for places of worship within different
communities within India and everywhere else.
