What do you mean by
support system of arts?
Support systems of the arts include:

• Institution
• Organization and collectives
• Media
• Alternative platforms
These support systems provide the
environment for facilitating production
and the circulation or distribution of art.
Institution – a place where an organization
takes care of people for a usually long period of
time.
Organization and collectives – are composed
of individuals who share similar or related
practices.
Media - is the collective communication outlets
or tools that are used to store and deliver
information or data.
Alternative platform/space
– is a space other than a traditional
commercial venue used for the public exhibition
of artwork.

- often comprising a place converted from


another use such as warehouse, a store front or
factory loft
What are the different types of institutions,
organizations, and platforms?

Support systems can be government initiated, community


or municipality based, privately supported, university
oriented & artist-run or internet based.

Ensemble are groups that challenge our concepts of
theatre production by mixing up performativity media
and even trying out new modes of public engagement.
ANINO SHADOWPLAY COLLECTIVES
 The Anino Shadowplay
Collective, formed in 1996,
is a group of multimedia
artists committed to
popularizing the art of
shadowplay. ... It
undertakes live
performances, exhibitions,
video, animation and
workshops often in
collaboration with
educational and art
institutions and
occasionally with
commercial
establishments.
SIPAT LAWIN Ensemble –
is an edge-work, site-
specific, independent
performance company
composed of theater artists,
engaged in devising relevant
new works. ... The
Ensemble's core group of
artists manages the company
and its programs alongside
producing and developing
performances and alternative
modes of performance-
making.
Academe
– is an extensive training ground for artist,
curators, scholars-critics, and other practitioners in the
arts.

PHSA or Philippine High School for the Arts in Los Baños, Laguna
Art Residency- a program supported by foundations,
cultural organizations or private entities

Artist spends a period of time in a studio or community where


he/she will develop an art project, like an exhibition or a

Ex. Casa San Miguel- located in the Pundaquit


fishing village in san Antonio Zambales offers
training in music and the visual arts at the grass
roots level

has initiated several
programs and workshops
to hone and showcase
artistry of the locals.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE
PHILIPPINES IN MANILA

 The neoclassical
architecture of the
National Museum of the
Philippines,exudes an
aura of grandeur,leaving
beholders with the
impression that the
objects inside it are
treasures worthy of
historical remembrance.
Museo San Ysidro de Pulilan in Bulacan
founded by the town’s historical society
comprising of young artist & cultural
workers.

need not be confined within
the “white cube”, exhibitions
can take place in alternative
spaces, or the out doors, in
public spaces within a limited
period of time.

FESTIVAL
Neo-Angono Public Art Festival - its name comes
from the artist collective that organizes the
festival year after year just before the official
town fiesta.
 
Contest and awards encourage artists to create new
work, keep pursuing their project, and recognize
outstanding artistic achievement based on certain
criteria. Awards validates an artist’s work based on
the evaluation of panel of experts.
Don Carlos Palanca Memorial
Awards for Literature 
 The Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca
Memorial Awards for Literature are literary awards
 of the Philippines. The Manila Standard called it the "
Pulitzer Prize" of the Philippines in terms of prestige.
Unlike works acceptable as nominees for the Pulitzers,
however, entries to the Palanca competition are
previously unpublished pieces in their manuscript
form.The Palanca Awards, organized by the Carlos
Palanca Foundation, is one of the Philippines' longest-
running awards programs.
Television, radio, social media, and print
media like magazines and newspapers are
platforms that disseminate artistic efforts
and shape people’s attitudes toward art.
