through a virtual museum?
6)How do you think the museum portrays its identity through its exhibition of arts?

Thanks for your prompt response.

1) As the COVID 19 pandemic has spread all around the world, how do you feel when running a
virtual museum for the first time?
At first, I am so shocked of knowing this since museum needs to be closed. I am thinking of how to
do exhibition and attract visitors to discover more about culture and art. Then, I decided to take this
in a positive way. Since we seek to transform our missions to digital years ago, hence this is the exact
time to do so. The pandemic has put the transformation front and centre. We enhance online
offerings to help visitors enjoy the exhibitions virtually.

Currently, Metropolitan University offers The Met 360° Project in our virtual museum. This is one of
the initiatives to create new ways for public to experience arts and collections virtually. It is such a
great idea. Viewers around the world can experience architecture and arts in a fresh, immersive way.
Since we always want to provide high quality exhibition to the visitors, this project will focus more on
giving satisfactory to them. The use of 360° technology allows viewers to explore some of Museum’s
iconic spaces as never before. It will be really great.

For those who are interested to experience the project, they need to buy the ticket first. We believe
public might wonder, why this exploration is not free-of-charge, right? No worries because it is really
worth it and affordable. We emphasize on the quality instead of quantity. You will really satisfy on
viewing the arts in 3D view besides exploring spaces in the museum. It is really special compared to
the free-of charge exhibitions provided to the public. Therefore, let’s be our member and grab this
chance!

2) What's your plan for the museum exhibition?

Thank you for the question. So, currently we are offering virtual museum exhibition to the visitors.
There are interesting exhibitions can be viewed by public for free during range of time. Visitors may
perceive new knowledge regarding arts and history by joining this. Attractive objects with great
explanation for each collection will amaze viewers. However, if they love to see it in 3D view, reserve
ticket for The Met 360° Project is encouraged.

Here, I will share about one of our latest exhibitions which is Jacob Lawrence: The American
Struggle. It features the little-seen series of paintings—"Struggle: From the History of the American
People" (1954–56)—by the iconic American modernist. The exhibition reunites the multi-panelled
work for the first time in more than half century. So, this will open your mind about the history of
American People. In addition, there will be a lot of great exhibitions are coming soon. Stay tune and
keep discovering new experience and knowledge.

EIZAH

Thank you, Miss Azian, our lovely moderator for the questions.

Hello and good day to our readers. I am very excited to be writing this forum post as an artist who
have contributed one of my pieces to the Metropolitan Museum.

To answer the first question posed by Miss Azian, I would like to share with you a masterpiece from
one of my fellow artists, Kent Monkman.

mistikôsiwak (Wooden Boat People): Welcoming the Newcomers

This is one of the many masterpieces that I, as an artist, have truly admired and liked. It is a modern
and contemporary art that very much reminded me of the nineteenth century style of paintings with
its grand scale. It’s a clever representation of the resiliency of Indigenous and the appreciation of it.
The composition might strike you in awe as it is acrylic on a very vast canvas and how amazing it is to
be able to see it no matter where you are. Just a simple click would transport you to the gallery of
MET museum. Take a tour virtually and see many more great arts that encapsulate the amazing
ideas of the artists behind them.

Moving on to the second question, I firmly believe that arts can give such a huge impact on today’s
society no matter when the arts are actually produced. In fact, it is even more mind-blowing when
you realise that centuries old arts speak a lot about today’s society. I believe that arts have been a
way for artists to share their views of the world. Take the above painting for example. It shows not
only the struggle of the Indegenous but also the beauty in their strength. It takes us back to the time
of colonialization, of hardships and of arduous pain. It gives us the tastes of agony. For me, it teaches
us to be grateful for our blissful life. The contentment we felt today are the fruits of blood, sweat
and tears of our ancestors. We are given this lesson and many more from a glance at this
masterpiece. Indeed, as long as we open our eyes and see with our heads and hearts, we surely will
be able to immerse ourselves in experiences that can teach us unforgettable messages.

Dear readers,

Do you enjoy reading the post? I sure hope you love reading this as much as I enjoy writing it.

NUAL’S SCRIPT:

1) How this museum portrays its identity through its exhibition of arts? Does virtual visit able
to deliver the message of the arts?

As a visitor, I think this museum clearly showing its identity through the uniqueness of their arts. They
presented the arts from many areas and regions. I’ve visited almost all exhibition throughout my
online view, as I just have to sit down and scroll here and there of the websites. And after all the visits,
the identity of the museum can be seen by the diversity of the arts. So far, I have visited a few
exhibitions; Photography’s last century, Sahel’s art on Empires on the shore which brings the
visitor to Sahara, The great hall Commission, and also Sita and Rama: the Ramayana painting.
All of these exhibitions resemble different culture and identity. Personally, I received great impact after
I discovered Photography’s Last century. It genuinely brings a mysterious vibe somehow creates a
horror atmosphere. If you play the background sound along while visiting the exhibition, you’ll feel the
vibe. Next, I really amaze the museum as it brings me a great value from the 360 presentation. We
can still view the whole picture of the museum by clicking everywhere. Though the visit is only done
virtually, the museum successfully give me impact and makes me treasure everything that I see
during the virtual tour. The information at the description site vividly describe the masterpiece and it
can The museum portrays its identity as an art museum and it reached me as a visitor, even though I
didn’t go to the museum physically. The messages from the arts falls in my heart the same as I go to
the museum. All I can say, virtual museum successfully portray the identity of the museum itself as an
art museum, and also convey the meaning of arts.

2) As a fan of arts, can you feel any differences when visiting the museum in real life and
through a virtual museum?

Certainly, there are many differences from virtual museum compared to real life visit. If we visit
physically, visitors have to take turn to read the facts and information below the artefact, take pictures
and maybe we have return to the section again if we miss something. We have to rush by walking
faster to make sure we’ve visited every section, and need to scramble in crowd if there are so many
visitors at the same place. Through online, I can simply go back and forth throughout the exhibition.
Online visit isn’t tiring at all, that’s the best thing for me. I don’t have to go anywhere. Just sit and dive
into the 360 panorama. Next, in terms of fee, online visit have more advantage. It’s because, I still
have to pay the same price as physical visit to enjoy full tour of an exhibition. However, for other
unpaid exhibitions, I can have the sneak-peek of them through its free preview. Plus, for every
exhibition, there will be an introduction which present the overview of the event. I think, the manager
is doing this to promote the virtual tour so that visitors will be attracted to pay when they want to watch
more. I won’t get this privilege in physical visit as it will give loss to the organizer. There’s also time
limit during the exhibition. For all my paid visit, I can enjoy the tour as long as the museum’s operating
hour. This means, I can enjoy the virtual visit longer than physical visit because I don’t have to
anywhere. These are major differences that I can see by virtual museum visit.
