Equipment used for the survey:


• Garmin eTrex Venture HCx GPS for the global tracking;
• Bushnell Laser Pro1600 and Suunto Tandem for length and height measurements;
• Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 as a Camera.

2. ORGANIZATION OF THE SURVEY

Before the beginning of this survey, it was necessary to meet people from BWS Mr.Partimin and
Mr.Suryadarma who accompanied us to the site.

The survey was undertaken from 27/06/2013 to 03/07/2013.

Survey planning:

Day 1 – 27/06/13: Trip from Jakarta to Balikpapan,2h by plane;


Trip from Balikpapan to Samarinda (Capital city of Kalimantan Timur Province), 2h
by car;
Meeting with people in BWS(Balai Wilayah Sungai) Office
Trip from Samarinda to Tenggarong, 1h30m by car and meet Mr.Suryadarma person
from ESDM

Day 2 – 28/06/13: Trip from Tenggarong to Kotabangun, 2h by car


Trip from Kotabangun to Kahala Village, 1h30m by long boat
Trip from Kahala to Tabang, 4h by car (4WD) and by boat 15m

Day 3 – 29/06/13: Go to the site,1h30m by small boat.

Day 4 – 30/06/13: Go to the site,1h30m by small boat.

Day 5 – 01/07/13: Trip from Tabang to Tenggarong

Day 6 – 02/07/13: Went to BAPPEDA to meeting with head of BAPPEDA, meeting with Bupati of Kutai

Trip to Samarinda, to BWS Office to get the data.

3. ACCESS

3.1 OVERVIEW

Tabang Kabupaten can be reached by car from Balikpapan to Samarinda (Capital city of the Province),
Samarinda to Tenggarong, Tenggarong to Kotanbangun, Kotabangun to Kahala, Kahala to Tabang
The project is located in the Sungailunuk Village, Tabang Kecamatan Kutai Kartanegara Kabupaten.
For this survey we were based in a small iin in Sidomulyo Village.
In Google Earth view below gives an almost complete representation of the existing ways in the project area.

There isn’t roads on both sides of the studied stretch, but the only river to access to the site is by small boat.
According to information from the ESDM Tenggarong (Mr.Suryadarma) and the villager there is a logging
road on the left side of the Belayan river. Approximately ± 5km from DAM location. But because the logging
company is no longer in operation about 3 years ago, the road is not used anymore.

4. INFORMATION

4.1 INFORMATION FROM BWS OFFICE

1. There are 5 Village in the upstream of the DAM


a. Tabang Lama
b. Sungailunuk
c. Pulau beras
d. Muara Len
e. Sidomulyo
But now all these villages move ± 20 km downstream to the DAM
2. The data are available in the office BWS is
a. There are 2 rain gauge station in KembangJanggut and Tuanatua
Available of data 10 years (2003-2012).
b. Water level data. The gauge in Kembangjanggut
Available of data 15 years old (1998 – 2012)
c. Discharge Data
Available of data 5 years (2002,2003,2004,2008,2012)

1. PLN has plans to build a substation in Kotabangun

4.4 INFORMATION FROM VILLAGER OF TABANG

1. Big flood ever happened as high ± 2.5m in 1991 and April 2013
2. The dry season happened between July and December 1997, elevation of the river down ± 1m from
now.
3. There are 5 drilling locations has been done

4.5 INFORMATION FROM HEAD OF BAPPEDA (MR. TOTOK H.SUBROTO)

1. The main purpose is hydropower

2. Studies that have been conducted are
a. Pra Feasibility Study
b. Feasibility Study
c. Detail Engineer Desain (DED)
d. AMDAL ( Analysis Environmental Study)
3. Permission from Komisi Bendungan Jakarta have not been obtained
4. There are 7 companies that are interested in the construction of this hydropower
5. And governments to submit to the Regional Company selects which companies are eligible and
qualify for the construction of this project. Selection through an auction process. Each company
should be presented to the Regional Company.
6. There are 7 road construction projects are being carried out from Tenggarong - Kotabangun -
Tabang which is targeted to be completed by the end of 2014
7. Existing substation is in Selarong
