Same But Different

Posted on 17. February, 2019

It would later become known as P.U.L.S.E. but before all that it was first aired here in the States as
a Pay Per View event and later broadcast in the UK, on 15th of November 1994 on BBC1 and
Radio One FM. Lucky for us someone that night recorded it from their FM stereo receiver.

A big difference here is there’s no James Guthrie post production, so the sound isn’t as processed
as the official video release of P.U.L.S.E. This has more of a raw, “feed from the desk” sound with
the warmth of an FM broadcast. So… Same but different.

Live and uncut from Earls Court, 20 October 1994. Here’s the playlist.

I’ve been in the mood for something from the European Division Bell Tour. Maybe I should of done
this podcast last month. It’s hard to think these concerts were almost 25 years ago. For this
podcast, we go to Chateau de Chantilly, Chantilly, France, 30. July 1994. Here’s the playlist!

The Rehearsals

For this podcast, practice makes perfect! It’s very similar to a previous podcast I did 10 years ago
called “Soundcheck” (which makes for a great companion to this edition of brain damage)
anyway… this time, its a complete 1994 soundcheck! When I was going through stuff, I was
surprised that I never featured this entire rehearsal before. I’ve only played a few bits and pieces.
So… why not. All doctored up for your ears! A rare glimpse into very laid back Pink Floyd
rehearsal. Here’s the playlist.

I’ve been wanting to feature this particular gig for a long time but I’m reminded why I’ve avoided it
for so long. Nonetheless, its a unique gig because it was the only stop on the entire Division Bell
Tour where the band performed Marooned.

You can hear the taper (who was not so close to the stage) was concerned with getting caught.
Pink Floyd’s management instructed promoters to have security at each facility, confiscate any
recording device. The quality of the recording suffers a little because of this, so it was extremely
difficult to doctor up. I did the best I could. I hope it sounds okay on your end but some EQ
tweaking might be necessary. Here is the playlist and here’s a ticket scan. Please consider a
small donation to help keep floydpodcast.com up and running. Takk!

It’s crazy to think we’re upon the 20th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s last album and tour. This
recording is from the opening night of their Division Bell Tour in Miami, at Joe Robbie Stadium, on
the 30th of March 1994. It’s a surprisingly good audience recording. Although there are some
problems with sound levels and a few glitches I had to fix. Pink Floyd’s performance is top-notch.
Here’s the playlist. Enjoy!

Show #184, Release date: 20. April 2012

It’s been a while since I’ve done something from the Division Bell Tour. For this podcast, we go to
the city of a thousand fires in Germany and take a ride in my Pink Floyd Limited Edition Golf by
Volkswagen, who sponsored Pink Floyd’s 1994 European Tour.

Although doctored for supersound, I recommend open room/car listening over headphones for this
one. If you use headphones, be careful and play at a lower volume. You may need to adjust the
high or lows to your liking. Please leave your comments and let me know what you think.

I’m still working on the syncing project. So in the meantime here’s a quick podcast I whipped up
thanks to Brain Damaged listener Jim Gilbert of Montgomery, Alabama who emailed “Why not the
New Orleans Superdome show to feature in a podcast, to celebrate the Saints? (I’m actually a
Pats fan, by the way.) It could work either way if they win, it’s a Floydian lagniappe. If they lose, it’s
a consolation prize for all Saints/Floyd fans.” Excellent Idea! Suggestions are always appreciated
so keep sending them in.

I’m back. I can’t thank you enough for your patience. Its been long enough so lots get this rollin’.
Back in July I posted a 1977 gig out of Cleveland and since then I got to visit the area. The photo
you see taken at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, is the entire reason behind this podcast. Pretty
simple. We go back again to Municipal Stadium, this time 27th May 1994.

Show #123 – Release date: 7. December 2008

The Division Bell Czech Republic Tour was an official leg during Floyd’s European tour. The band
even had special, lavish tour programs made. Unfortunately those programs never arrived in time
so many were destroyed. This is a fairly decent recording of Floyd’s first and only Czech concert
appearance, 7. September 1994, Strahovsky Stadion, Prague, Czechoslovakia.

This will be the last podcast for 2008. Thank you for all the kind words and for your continued
support. Best wishes to you for a happy holiday and a peaceful new year!

The Silverdome, Pontiac, Michigan, 15. July, 1994. This is perhaps the most historically significant
engagement during Pink Floyd’s Division Bell Tour. Not much else during the tour, in the grand
scheme of things, could compare to the second night in Detroit when the audience was treated to
a first entire performance of Dark Side Of The Moon since 1975. We start out with a unique
version of Saucerful Of Secrets recorded at the “Amsterdam Rock Circus” in Olympic Stadium,
Amsterdam, Netherlands, 22. May, 1972. It’s ALL doctored up for best possible sound. Enjoy!

Show #98 – Release date: 9. November, 2007

Originally featured on Brain Damage Show #32, Air date: 1. April, 2005 – Stadio delle Alpi, Torino,
Italy, 13. September 1994. Torino was former host city of the 2006 Winter Games, It’s located in
the shadows of the Italian Alps close to the French and Swiss Borders.

Taken from the soundboard, this recording could render your copy of PULSE useless had Floyd
played all of Dark Side of The Moon on this one, but alas, they don’t. So, you better keep your
copy of PULSE around for good measure.

This is the only soundboard recording floating around from Floyd’s 94 Division Bell tour. The
audience as well as the band were having fun and David even gets to practice his Italian with the
crowd. During Money, David slips up on the lyrics and starts laughing. Later, the girls on back up
vocals start having their own fun when they unexpectedly started jamming on kazoos

The last podcast stirred up a great thread. I planned to feature the first Waterless Floyd gig but
decided to do an experiment instead. I have for you, Floyd’s last two albums. Performed live
(except Cluster One) all recorded off the soundboard, all arranged in the same order as each
album. This podcast was lots of fun to put together. Hope you dig it.
