Lesson Objective
An observable and/or measurable objective that is specific, clear, focused on
learning goals or outcomes, and student-oriented.
Standard addressed
Taken from California state standards or district standards, including the number ,
classification, and text of the standard.
Instructional procedures
1. Anticipatory set: This gets the student set for the lesson. It should be short and
sweet, inspiring interest and attention.
3. Input: This is the information that the student needs to have in order to
accomplish the objective. This can be in the form of teacher talk, demonstration,
student talk, reading, visual input, etc. It includes information about the subject
matter and directions for accomplishing the objective.
4. Modeling: Students observe the process that they will later be doing themselves.
5. Checking for understanding: The teacher finds out if the students have what
they need (information, understanding of directions, skills, materials, etc.) to
accomplish the objective. This should be done throughout the lesson, but
especially before students begin their independent practice.
6. Guided practice: Before students begin independent practice, the teacher guides
them as they complete an example of the activity they will be doing.
7. Independent practice: Once the student can perform the objective without major
errors, discomfort, or confusion, he or she is ready to practice the activity with
little or no teacher supervision.
Closure: End the lesson with the students by reflecting on the lesson objective and
reviewing what they should know and/or be able to do now that the lesson is over.
