Whatever your view on demonic & spirit possession & haunted

houses maybe, there is way to many documented cases to leave
one skeptical. & to date this has become a more common
occurance w/ an avg of at least 3000 exorcisms done each week!
Members: 1
Latest Activity: 19 minutes ago
In 2007 there where only 20 ordained exorcist in the catholic church, that
number is now well over 3000, on an average week they do as many as
3000 exorcisms.
This is a subject that I am well to familiar with, & one that I have not
spoken of to but a few close friends. To ignore the above facts even as an
occultist is to be blind & even allow oneself to be more easily open to
possession. I have seen more things walking our world than ever in the last
few years, things that haven't been seen in centuries, things that in normal
circumstance wouldn't be scene unless summoned in a ritual, but now are
walking in the open, & w/ malicious intent to any that get in there way.
In this group I will add documentions of such things & add ways to protect
one self from possession, & other things, for it is just not a person that can
be possessed.

Stones of the Month by Namor Drath

Topaz is the birthstone of November (yellow topaz) and

December (blue topaz), it is a talisman for the sign of
Sagittarius and the suggested anniversary gemstone for the
4th, 19th or 23rd year of marriage.

The name topaz comes from the Sanskrit and means fire.

14
Topaz occurs in a wide range of colors including red, orange, peach, pink, gold, yellow, brown
and clear and is found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Russia. Naturally pale to medium blue
topaz is enhanced by irradiation to produce a more intense blue color.

Red and pink topaz gems were used in the jewelry of the 18th and 19th Century Russian
Czarinas and is why topaz is sometimes called "Imperial Topaz".

The most famous topaz is actually a colorless topaz that was originally thought to be a diamond.
It is a 1680 carat stone known as the "Braganza Diamond" set in the Portuguese Crown Jewels.
Another beautiful topaz is in the Green Vault in Dresden which has one of the world's most
important gem collections.

Although topaz is a very hard gemstone, an 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness, it can be split with
a single blow and should be protected from hard knocks.

Healing and Metaphysical Properties:

During the Middle Ages topaz was thought to heal both physical and mental
disorders and prevent death.

The Greeks believed it had power to increase strength and to make

its wearer invisible while the Romans believed it had power to improve
eyesight. The Egyptians wore it as an amulet to protect them from injury.

Topaz can also be used as a focus or to help focus as well as to produce gem remedies.

Tiger's Eye is the Planetary stone for Gemini

(May 21-Jun. 20) and the accepted gem for the
ninth wedding anniversary.

Tiger's eye (tigers eye, tiger eye, tiger iron) is a

member of the quartz group of chalcedonies. It
is one of the chatoyant gemstones. Chatoyancy
exhibits a changeable silky luster as light is
reflected within the thin parallel fibrous bands.
This effect is due to the fibrous structure of the
material.

Tiger iron is composed of tiger's eye, red

15
jasper and black hematite. The rippled wavy bands of color often resemble a scenic view. Marra
Mamba is a form of tiger iron found in one area of Australia near Mount Brockman. It is a very
rare type of tiger iron that contains shades of red, green, yellow, and blue. This area has been
mined out for many years so very little of the "true" marra mamba is available today.

The exceptional looking piece of marra mamba tiger's iron rough from Australia looks like the
evening sun setting behind a mountain range. It has a greenish cast with shades of brown, golden
yellow, red and blue veining. Because the minerals in this stone are of varying hardness, it is
difficult to polish without under cutting.

Tiger's eye is mined in Western Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada, India, Namibia, and
Burma.

Healing and Metaphysical Properties:

Many legends about quartz say that wearing tiger's eye

(which is a form of quartz) is beneficial for health and spiritual
well being. Legend also says it is a psychic protector, great for
business, and an aid to achieving clarity.

Tiger's eye can also be used in meditation, 'anchoring' for more

spiritual exercises, promote a healthy metabolism,
make gem remedies, and to help protect against external
influences.

KNOWING THE MEANING AND SIGNIFICANCE OF

YOUR WOOD
BY: SHADOW MAGE

When pondering what woods to use for such things as wands, pendants, staves, rituals and
smudge bowls it is important to remember the magical significance and meaning of each
wood. What wood you choose depends on what kind of outcome you are looking for. In this
article I will cover some of the basic everyday woods to start. The woods here are just a few
of the ones used in magical applications, but it is a start. I will cover more woods in future
issues, so do not fret if the particular wood you are looking for is not in this issue. I have

16
saved some of the Winter Solstice woods for the next issue and the more exotic woods for
future issues.

This article will deal with the primary woods people in the U.S. can find just about
anywhere, even in their own backyard. I hope you all enjoy.

APPLE WOOD

Apple (Queris)
Sacred to the Feast of Lughnasa and the Celtic Goddess
Rhiannon, who is also one of Shava's masks, as Goddess of Stars
and also of horses. Apple harvest comes on and after the feast of
Lughnasa (August 1st) and marks one of the major foods of the
Elves, often associated with the Faerie realms and the Isle of
Avalon. Thus the wood has the power of Avalon and the
immortality of the Faerie realms. The Q-rune is also called
Quenda, in Elvish Eranor, which is the Rose bush whose bright
colors evoke the spirit of light and love in the season of Lugh, or
Obraash, Mellar of the Sun. Its sacred number is seventy; its
sacred bird the rose-breasted grosbeak. Shamans and ancient
poets are often described carrying apple branches as symbols of
their office and the famous Silver Bough of Apple provided entry
to Faerie. Especially suited to opening the doorways into Faerie,
spells to do with horses or travel, illumination, enhancing any
skill, love, harmony, and beauty, harvest, and magic of divine,
shamanic madness or visionary experience.
Apple symbolizes healing, love, and beauty. Especially suited for opening doors into Faerie,
spells regarding travel, illumination, love, harmony, beauty, and detoxification.

ASH & MOUNTAIN ASH (ROWAN) WOOD

Ash (Nuin)
Sacred to Virgo and its ruler Mercury, planet of intellect and reason, Ash is a
wood associated with many divinities. The number of its house is nine (thrice
three). The Ash appears in Norse myth as Yggdrasil, the World-Ash or Tree of
Life from which all the worlds spring. In this respect it is the pathway or
bridge by means of which the wizard may travel among the worlds. Mystically,
Ash signifies the Astral dimension and its myriad doorways. Beneath the
World-Tree, Yggdrasil, the three Norns or Fates dispense judgment over gods
and men. A dragon lives in the roots of the World Ash and an eagle in its
branches; the goat of Odin feeds upon the leaves and turns that food into Ambrosia, the drink of
the gods that provides immortality. Hanging upside down on the Ash tree, Odin drank of the

17
spring of destiny at its roots and the runes were revealed to him. Tradition holds the Ash also to
be sacred to Llyr and the Greek Poseidon, Lord of Sea, horses, and metamorphosis. Like the Sea-
Goat Capricornus, Ash unites Earth and Water in the primordial energy in which all potential
lies. Poseidon, Odin, and Thor each wielded a spear of Ash, symbolic of an irresistible magickal
Will and invincible protection. The Greek goddess Nemesis carried an ash wand as symbol of
divine justice. With it, she ensures that fortune (good or ill) is shared among all people and not
only by the few. Nemesis is also called "Nemesis of the rainmaking ash" identified as
Andrasteia, daughter of the sea-god Oceanus.
One of the few surviving Druid wands of old, found in an archaeological dig, was made of Ash
with a sun-wise spiral design, symbolizing Ash's links to the Sun. So generally magickal is the
Ash that it is the wood used for Yule logs and Maypoles, and in some traditions the brooms of
witches. In the Alferic pantheon Olobaal, the Sea Mother, whose body moves with the moon is a
feminine figure. She is the devouring Mother who consumes, swallows, and gives birth to all
life. She is goddess of water, sea, and ocean, twin sister of Vashaan, the Wind Lord, as Poseidon
is brother of Zeus. She is great and terrible when incited to Tempest by her brother; calm and
beautiful when she is embraced by the Sun Obraash; fecund when touched by the Moon. She can
take any form and is also a goddess of war. In Alferic tradition it is out of ash-wood that Olobaal
fashioned her scepter and the haft of her magickal harpoon. Thus, it may be seen that Ash is as
much attuned to Elemental Water as Earth, and so is the consummate wood of growth and
fecundity, mothers and daughters, and female sovereignty. It is a wood of balance and the
marriage of opposites. Well-suited for shamanic magick, protection, and to enhance one's skills
at any art or craft, magic of wells and caves, Earth as the vessel of water, finding roots or
working with plant roots, magic of horses, oceans, conquest, justice, and weather-working.

ASH LORE
3rd Moon of the Celtic Year - (Feb 18 - March 17)

Latin name: White Ash - fraxinus Americana; European Ash - fraxinus excelsior; Flowering
Ash - fraxinus ornus.

Celtic name: Nion (pronounced: knee un)

Folk or Common names: Ash, Common Ash, Unicorn Tree, Guardian Tree

Parts Used: Leaves, wood, bark, twigs, sap, flowers

Herbal usage: Ash leaves and the tender tops can be used in the spring to make a fasting tea that
is a diuretic and can be used as a help for weight loss. Ash bark is known as a liver and spleen
cleanser and can make the immune system stronger. The flowering Ash has sap that contains a
sugary exudate called 'manna', which can be used as a laxative.

Magickal History & Associations: The bird associated with this month is the Snipe, the color is
half clear & half deep blue, and the gemstone is Sea-green Beryl. The Ash, a masculine herb, is
associated with the element of water, the sun and Jupiter; and is sacred to Thor, Woden, Mars,
Uranus and Gwydion. Ash is also sacred to Odin since the Ash is often known as the Yggdrassil
(or the 'Ash Yggdrasil') amongst the Scandinavian nations. In Norse mythology, the Yggdrassil

18
supports the Universe, has three main branches and is believed to have sprung from the
beginning of time out of primordial slime and ashes. The Ash is also the tree of the sea God
Poseidon, because of its watery power. Frennett (frenetic chaos), a substance used by berserkers,
may have been made from Ash bark. The Ash was supposed to be serpent repellent - Pliny held
that there is such an antipathy between an adder and an Ash-tree, "that if an adder be
encompassed round with Ash-tree leaves, she will sooner run through the fire than through the
leaves". The ceremonial Yule log is often made of Ash - this log is kindled each Yule with a
piece from last years fire and allowed to smolder for 12 days before it is ceremonially put out.
The Ash tree is famous, although anonymous, since it's the tree from which the Hanged Man is
suspended in tarot decks

Magickal usage: The Ash was one of the sacred Druidic three: 'Oak, Ash & Thorn', and the
month of Ash is a good time to do magick designed to learn your inner self. The Ash has
applications in magick done for sea power, ocean rituals, karmic laws, magickal potency,
healing, protection from drowning, love, rain making, women's mysteries, prophetic dreams,
general protection, Prosperity, and health. Ash is often used for making both mundane and
magickal tools - it's said that tools with handles of Ash are more productive than tools with
handles of other wood. Witches brooms often have the staff made from Ash, and Ash wood was
used for spears and shields since it was known as a protective wood. Placing Ash berries in a
cradle prevents the child from being traded for a changeling by an evil fairy - and Ash talismans
can be worn as protective amulets. Ash is known to keep away serpents and to protect against
their bite. If there are no snakes to be found, Ash can be used instead to keep away nasty people
who are bitchy, quick to criticize, impatient, or psychic vampires. Special guardian spirits reside
in the Ash; This makes it excellent for absorbing sickness. The spirally carved Druidic wand was
made of Ash for this healing purpose. In years gone by, weak-limbed children were passed
through split ash trees which were then bound up. If the tree grew straight, the child would as
well. Ash can be used in medicine pouches or can be used in magick for wart remover: the wart
is stuck with a pin that has first been thrust into an Ash, while these words are said:
"Ashen tree, Ashen tree, pray these warts off of me."
The pins are then stuck back in the tree and left. The druids attributed special powers over water
to the ash tree. They used its wood to make it rain or to ward off water's destructive power. The
Ash is the tree of sea power, or of the power resident in water. Ash leaves placed under the
pillow will induce prophetic dreams, and carrying an Ash leaf will attract the love of the opposite
sex. The Ash is often called The Unicorn Tree, because unicorns are supposed to be fond of the
tree. To catch a glimpse of a unicorn, carry Ash wood or leaves. Whenever you need to harvest a
piece or part of an Ash tree, remember to ask the tree if it will allow you to take a branch or other
part and be sure to leave the tree an offering of thanks when you are done. A nice offering would
be a bit of mane from a unicorn (eg).
Rowan (Luis)
Also called the Mountain Ash, and Quick beam for its powers of bestowing and enhancing life,
Rowan is sacred to Capricorn. It especially bears the power of the Dark Goddess, the Crone
aspect of Mother Earth, and through her the power of fiery Abban, Vulcan, Lord of craft,
mountain, and metalwork. Rowan flowers and bright orange berries are marked by the
pentagram, symbol of the five Elements; the berries, often retained through Winter, symbolize
the endurance of Life through the dark of the year. Also called Witchen or Witch-bane Rowan
has been considered the enemy of all evil witchery, and protects against one being carried off to

19
Faerie against one's will. A tree of astral vision and protection, particularly good for warding off
evil spirits, Rowan traditionally is said to avert storms and lightning, and bring peace. The
fondness of songbirds for Rowan berries, gives the tree a link to the bards, and the Goddess
Brigid in her role as Muse of poets. It is a tree associated with serpents and dragons and sacred
places, the ley-lines or dragon-lines of Earth energy. The dragon embodies primal energy, a
strong force of creativity and natural flow, which cannot be "slain" or "tamed". Indeed "slaying
the dragon" in Christian legend is sometimes confused with modern technology's notions of
dominion over Nature. Dragon energy is drawn into harmony when we enter into partnership
with it through the erection of standing stones at intersections of the dragon lines, or by directing
it in a Rowan wand. Rowan's power is doubled by the inclusion of a dragon-scale core when it is
fashioned as a wand. Its Elvish name, Luis, comes from the root lu "time" also found in luras "to
judge." Elves frequently hold their judicial assemblies under old Rowans. Especially suited for
magic giving form and order, ritual, growth, fertility, protection, women's autonomy, poetry,
weaving and spinning, and geomancy or work with ley lines.

ROWAN LORE
2nd Moon of the Celtic Year - (Jan 22 - Feb 18)

Latin name: Rowan/American Mountain Ash - sorbus

Americana; Rowan/European Mountain Ash - sorbus aucuparia

Celtic name: Luis (pronounced: loush)

Folk or Common names: Mountain Ash, Ran Tree, Witchwood

Tree, Quick beam, The Witch or Witch Wand Tree, Whispering
Tree, Sorb-Apple, Service Tree

Parts Used: Wood, berries. Caution: do not eat the seeds

Herbal usage: Rowan bark has astringent qualities and can be

used as a decoration for helping cure irritable bowels. Rowan
berries can be made into a juice which can be used as a laxative. The berries are also an
important food for grouse, cedar waxwings, grosbeaks and other hungry birds.

Magickal History & Associations: The bird associated with the month of Rowan is the Duck.
The Druid Dhubh (Blackbird) also has an association with the Rowan tree since Blackbirds are
fond of Rowan berries. Since each Rowan berry carries a minute pentagram, eating these berries
is said to give the blackbird the ability to connect us with his healing song to the balancing and
regenerative powers of the Otherworld and the Unconscious. The Celtic symbol of the month of
Rowan is the Green Dragon. The color is red, and the gemstone is Yellow Chrysolite or the
Ruby. The Rowan is a Masculine herb that is associated with the element of fire, and is a tree of
the sun and the planet Uranus. The tree is sacred to the deities of Rowan, Thor and Brighid
(triple goddess of inspiration, healing and smith-craft). Rowan is also sacred to Oeagrus (father
of Orpheus, who belonged to the sorb-apple cult) and to the White Goddess Aphrodite;
Akka/Mader-Akka/Rauni (Finnish goddess of the harvest and of female sexuality); and the river
goddess Halys/Alys/Elis (Queen of the Eleusine Islands). Irish Druids held Rowan trees sacred

20
like Oaks and sometimes called it the 'Tree of Life'. Rowan wood is one of the nine traditional
firewoods to be added to the Belfire that is burned at Beltane. In folklore the Rowan is regarded
as the godmother of milk cows. When a calf is due to be named, the farmer goes to the wood
before daybreak to cut a Rowan branch with a piece of copper just as the sun rises. He smacks
the calf on the back with it and calls it by its name. After that he tethers it to the cowshed door,
decorated with white ribbons and eggshells, and the calf stays safe and well. The Rowan is a
favorite tree of the Otherkin. A Slavic tree spirit known as Musail, the forest tsar, king of the
forest spirits, is associated with the Rowan tree. Rowan also has a vampiric association since it
is, along with Garlic and Hawthorn, one of the most popular herbal vampire repellents.

Magickal usage: The month of Rowan is a good time to do initiations, especially during
Imbolic. The Rowan has applications in magick done for divination, astral work, strength,
protection, initiation, healing, psychic energies, working with spirits of the dead, psychic powers,
personal power, and success. Uses of Rowan in protective magick include carrying Rowan twigs
on sea voyages to protect the ship from storms. A Rowan can be planted near a new house to
protect it from lightning and evil influences. Walking sticks made of Rowan will protect there
user from harm. A charm made of two small twigs of Rowan wood tied together to form a cross
using red thread or yarn can be carried to protect against bad spirits. Its branches were used by
Norsemen as rune-staves upon which to carve runes of protection. The Celts believed that no
witches or evil spirits could cross a door over which a branch of Rowan had been nailed. In some
legends, the Rowan has also been called the whispering tree because it has secrets to tell to those
who will listen. Rowans also can be planted on graves to prevent the haunting of the place by the
dead. In Ireland, a Rowan stake was sometimes hammered through a corpse to immobilize the
spirit. In ancient Ireland, the Druids of opposing forces would kindle a fire of Rowan and say an
incantation over it to summon spirits to take part in the battle. Should you happen upon a
flourishing Rowan which is most bountifully hung with cluster upon cluster of delicate red
berries, then you may be sure that some saintly soul lies buried close by. Rowan is often called
The Wizard Tree or The Witch Tree, partly because Rowan berries have a small pentagram at the
point where they are joined to the stalk. Indeed, Rowan berries were often regarded as magickal
and were the food of the Tuatha De Danaan. As attractive as Rowan is to the Fey, Rowan wood
is often used in butter churns so that the butter would not be overlooked by evil Faeries. In
Scotland, fires made from Rowan wood were used to protect the cattle against those same type of
evil fairy spirits, and it is said that 'Bewitched' horses may be controlled by a Rowan whip.
Witch-wands for divining metal are often made of Rowan wood, and Rowan branches may be
used to dowse for water or can be made into wands. The best time to harvest a Rowan branch for
a wand or staff is at Beltane. Remember to ask the tree if it will allow you to take a branch and
be sure to leave the tree an offering of thanks when you are done.
Fairly heavy, Ash is a traditional wood & represents Ygdrasill, the World Tree and is one of the
three of the Fae Triad (Oak, Ash, Thorn). It is especially good for spells of protection (especially
from drowning) holding great sea-power and is excellent for absorbing sickness.

BEECH WOOD

21
Sacred to Obraash the Sun lord, whom the Elves call Alba, Beechwood is closely related to Oak.
The Beech tree is a large and spreading tree that bears edible nuts. It was particularly valued by
the ancient Celts -- and the Elves -- as a nut used to fodder animals, especially the sacred swine.
Beech is the family of trees to which Oak belongs, thus is Beech sometimes called Atarya
Dwyrion, "Grandfather of Oaks." The name Beech relates to the Germanic word for Book and
tradition tells that beech wood was used to make the first writing tablets for the runes. Hence,
Beech is deeply associated with learning and lore, and with the divination power of the runes.
Like Greek Apollo, the Elvish Alba drives his sun-ship across the sky each day and passes to
every world of manifestation, sources of light, beauty, and life. Apollo is also considered to be a
spirit of youth, archery, and prophecy, the latter because of his conquest of the Pythian serpent at
Delphi and subsequent assumption of the powers of the Delphic oracle. In Celtic tradition many
gods are associated with the sun's light, among them Ogma Sunface, god of eloquence who
created the ogham letters, and Oenghus mac Og, god of love and youth. The wood of the Beech
has a superb grain that finishes most beautifully. The Elvish rune Sultan is the same as the Norse
rune Sol, the solar rune which has also been interpreted to mean "victory." Magickal operations
especially applicable to Beech include: spells of information, especially seeking old wisdom;
invocation of ancient guardians or Ancestors; research into old writings and the runes; magick of
the Summer Solstice, culmination of desires; magick of victory.
Beech wood is associated with learning, lore and knowledge. Some of the first runes were carved
into Beech wood and thus it has strong ties to powers of divination as related to runes. Helps
with spells regarding information, invocation of ancient guardians and research into old writings.

BIRCH WOOD
Birch (Beith)

Sacred to the festival of Alban Eiler

(Vernal Equinox). Its number is forty
and its bird the White Egret. In the
Celtic Ogham Beith is accorded
prestige as the first tree, one of the
trees that emerges first to establish a
new forest, a harbinger of youth and
springtime. It is often associated with
the beginning of the year, and in the
Alferic tradition is linked to the
beginning of the cycle of growth and
renewal in Spring. It is a tree of
beginnings in general and of the
Bards, as the first grade of the Druid
order. The Bards are according first
honor as the singers of the Creation
epics, those who sang the worlds into
existence. Birch is also a wood with
great powers to purify and discipline,
to create the new forest in service to
the great trees that will come after,

22
such as the Oak and Ash and Maple. Birch forest is young and so Birch is linked to youth and all
things new. It is especially suited to magick of new beginnings, spells of youth and fresh starts,
bardic enchantment, creativity, procreation, renewal and rebirth, purification, and spells for
discipline and service.

BIRCH LORE

1st Moon of the Celtic Year - (Dec 24 - Jan 21)

Latin name: Yellow birch - betula alleghaniensis; black birch - betula lenta; canoe or common
birch - betula papyrifea.

Celtic name: Beth (pronounced: beh)

Folk or Common names: Beithe, Bereza, Berke, Beth, Bouleau, Lady of the Woods, Birth,
Canoe Tree, Paper Tree, Silver Birch, White Birch. "Birch" is derived from the meaning "Bright"
or "Shining" in Indo-European and Sanskrit terminology. Quite possibly it came from the Anglo-
Saxon term "Beorgan" meaning "to protect or shelter"

Parts Used: Leaves, bark, wood, sap, branches.

Herbal usage: Birch leaves can be used to make an infusion that is good for breaking up kidney
or bladder stones. Birch bark is an astringent and can be used to treat non-hereditary baldness.
Birch tea can be made from the inner bark and leaves and this is good for rheumatism or as a
sedative to aid sleep. Birch sap can be harvested the same way maple sap is, and then boiled
down into birch syrup.

Magical History & Associations: The bird associated with the Month of the Birch is the
pheasant. Birch's color is white, its day is Sunday and its gemstone is Red Chard. The Celtic
symbol of Birch is the White Stag with a rack with seven tines. Birch is associated with the
element of water, is a tree of the sun and the planet Venus, and its Herbal Gender is feminine.
The Birch tree is sacred to the God Thor and the Goddesses Diana and Cerridwen. Birch is
considered to be a Goddess tree, the symbol of summer ever-returning. The Birch is also a
special tree to the Celts ("On a switch of birch was written the first Ogham inscription in Ireland,
namely seven B's, as a warning to Lug son of Ethliu, to wit, 'Thy wife will be seven times carried
away from you into fairyland or elsewhere, unless birch be her overseer." - Robert Graves, The
White Goddess) and Birch wood is one of the nine traditional firewoods to be added to the
Belfire that is burned at Beltane. It is one of the three pillars of Wisdom (Oak, Yew, Birch) and
often symbolizes the first level of Druid working. Birch trees often have Otherkin spirits attached
to them and the "Lieschi" or "Genii of the Forest" are said to dwell in their tree tops. The Ghillie
Dhu (pronounced "Gillee Doo or Yoo") are guardian tree spirits who are disguised as foliage and
dislike human beings. They prefer birch trees to all others, and jealously guard them from
humans. If the spirit of the Birch tree touches a head it leaves a white mark and the person turns

23
insane. If it touches a heart, the person will die.

Magickal usage: The month of Birch is a good time to do magick associated with new
beginnings. Magickal work done in this moon adds strength and momentum to any new choices
made. The Birch has applications in magick done for protection, creativity, exorcism, fertility,
birth, healing, Forest Magick, Inner Authority/Self-Discipline, Lunar workings, love, and
purification. Magickal protective uses of Birch include tying a red ribbon around the trunk of a
birch to ward off the evil eye. Also, gently wrapping someone with a Birch twig drives out
negative energy, and Birch branches hung near a cradle will protect the newborn from psychic
harm. In fact, cradles can be made from Birch wood to further protect a newborn. Many farmers
plant Birch around their houses to protect against lightning. For magickal parchment, gather
Birch bark from a tree that has been struck by lightning (chosen by Thor) - and the Birch paper
will keep the writings safe. Because Birch wood has the qualities of exorcism and protection, its
twigs are traditionally used to make witches' brooms. Brooms made of a mixture of Ash, Birch
and Willow are said to be especially powerful in magick. Birch rods are also used in rustic rituals
to drive out the spirits of the old year. Birch is also perfect to use to make a 'Goddess' wand,
since Birch is the tree known as 'the Lady of the Woods' and a grove of Birch trees is an
excellent place to communicate with the Goddess. Birch wood is also a good choice for making
rune sets to use for divination. Be sure to harvest your branch for the rune set during the waxing
moon, and make sure you ask Odin or Byarka to inspire your work. Also ask the tree if it will
allow you to take a branch and be sure to leave the tree an offering of thanks when you are done.
Birch trees especially appreciate gifts such as pretty stones, sea shells, flowers or herbs. (Please
note: never take bark off a living Birch tree, since this will kill it.)
Relatively light wood, Birch is considered the first tree, tied to spring and youth & all things
new. It also holds great ability to purify & discipline.

CEDAR WOOD

Cedar (Chakris)

Sacred to the cross-quarter feast of Imbolic, which in the Elvish

tradition, is the Feast of Shava, Queen of Stars. Yet it Cedar is
also associated with the goddess Sezh or Persephone in her
Underworld time, withdrawn from the mundane surface of
existence during the season of snows. Evergreen Cedar is sacred,
like Juniper, for the promise of eternal life. Its number is thirty,
its color pale yellow, and its bird the goldfinch. Chakris recalls
the Cedars of Lebanon, the wood from which the great Jewish
Temple of Solomon was built. Associations with Solomon are, of
course, always magical, that great king being legendary for his
powers of magick and ability to bind spirits to his service. Cedar
is a wood of protection and preservation. Imbolic or Oimelic is
also, traditionally, the time of the lambing when the milk of the
ewes comes, thus the linkage of the festival to milk, as well as to light. Chakris symbolizes and
embodies the light in the darkness, and the brilliance of the Star Goddess in the inky blackness of
the interstellar void. Cedar is especially powerful for clearing negativity from an area prior to

24
magickal work. The tree is also called Arbor Vitae, Tree of Life. Especially suited to
preservation of sacred places, forests, and groves, dedication of sacred space for worship and
magick, bringing of light out of darkness, star magick of all kinds, and summoning of helpful
spirits.
Extremely lightweight, rosy hue, and a wonderfully lasting aroma. Cedar from Lebanon was
famous in the Bible and was a symbol of power and longevity.

CHERRY WOOD

Cherry (Oadha)

Cherry wood is sacred to Ambash, God of the Hunt, of Beasts, and of War. He is also Ares,
Mars, Herne, Teutates, Tyr. Cherry is sacred likewise to female deities of hunt and battle:
Artemis, Morrigan. Cherry wood is red in color and darkens with age and exposure to the sun. Its

25
companion stones are obsidian and sard. Its sacred bird is the Red-tailed hawk. The sound of the
rune Oadha carries with it the aspiration of Thor (Redwood) and the vibratory qualities of Duir
(Oak). Cherry wood carries the energy of the magickal Will through which magickal intentions
are directed into the outer world of manifestation. Cherry wood is imbued with the power of
making and doing, achievement, and self-assertion over obstacles and critics. It is the pure
energy of Will and desire. The cherry fruit is magically linked to the root chakra and so to sex
and birth: the life force of attraction and renewal. Its sweet-scented flowers evoke eroticism and
the power of love in its more subtle forms as well as the essence of springtime with its powers of
renewal. Especially suited to invocations and blessings of sacred fires, spells of finding, hunting,
conflict, war, competition, sex, passion, communion with animals, unification of groups or
tribes, and the amplification of magical will.
Cherry is a very earthy wood, assisting in clear and present thought. This wood is very grounded
and helps with keeping a level head.

DOGWOOD

Osier or Dogwood (Zallis)

Osier is a tree most sacred to Agni, the primordial

Fire. Zallis is held, by the Elves, to be sacred to
the spring fire festival of Beltane (or Agnianna as
they also name it). Agni, who is not numbered
among the twelve Mellarin, may be equated to the
Celtic god Belinos (for whom Beltane is named).
He is called Atarya Tulkazo, "Grandfather of
Tulkas," who is the fire of passion, desire, and
will. Agni is often considered to be a mask of
Olan, the Great Spirit who goes before all and
encompasses all. The Elves sing that Agni is the
father of Shava, Star Queen, and also of Abban,
the great subterranean Father of volcanic fire and
the forge. The red-barked Osier is associated with
fertility and sexual attraction. For Agni is not only
the sacrificial fire, but also the fire of loins and
procreation, the energy of bud and flower. The
rune Zallis, shaped like an X, is considered one of
the most powerful runes for magick invoking the
protective and creative power of fire, and is often
used alone as a sign for banishing disruptive forces and deception. By association with the
Futhark rune Gifu, it also bears a sense of happiness and warmth, or comfort. The wood's name
"dogwood" also carries associations with the Irish hero Cuchullain, whose name meant "the dog
of Chullain" referring to his loyalty. This gives the wood magickal links to the warrior heroism
and superhuman physical prowess of the hero, and links to domesticated dogs, their healing and
protection and their loyalty and affection too. Magical operations especially applicable to Osier
include: magick of flowering; evocation of one's Ancestors; renewal of cycles of fertility;
consecration of ritual or hearth fires; giving of comfort or healing, and spells of banishment and

26
protection.

Pale with a blush of pink, Dogwood is a charming & genial wood. Known for its reliant & well-
grounded nature as well as its tendency to help wishes come true. It is a rather laid-back wood.

ELM WOOD

Elm (Elma)

One of the tallest ancient forest trees, graceful in its chalice shape, Elm is sacred to the Great
Goddess in her form as Wise Grandmother. She is the Qabbalist's Briah, manifest in the planet

27
Saturn. Elm is also called "Elven" for its connection to the Elves and Faerie mounds, and so to
burial mounds, and to death as the doorway eternal life. In recent times, as many ancient Elms
have been killed off by Dutch Elm disease, the tree has come to symbolize and embody the
struggle of Nature against humanity's destruction of the old forests through short-sightedness or
the transportation of diseases from other parts of the world. Elm's spirit is majestic and
expansive, rooted and wise. Well-suited to magick of Earth and invocation of the Goddess,
healing, fertility, gardening, rebirth, destiny, wisdom., passage from one life (or phase of life) to
another, metamorphosis, endurance.
Ancient, feminine & wise. Elm is tied to the goddess in her crone phase & heralded by the bard
Taliesin as steadfast in battle. Elm is connected to elves & faerie mounds as Kipling warns:
"Ailim be the lady's tree; burn it not or cursed ye'll be".

HAWTHORNE WOOD

Hawthorn (Huathe)

Hawthorn or Whitethorn is sacred to

Aquarius and Vashaan, the Windlord,
the Thunderer, whom the Elves call
Valma. He is the Norse Thor and the
Greek Zeus, god of Sky and storm. It is
a tree of defense with its twisted
branches and sharp thorns, and it holds
the power of lightning. Some lore
masters say it can detect the presence of
magic because it is a tree in which
magical powers enter the manifest
world from beyond. Its sacred color is
violet and it is especially attuned to this
band of the magical spectrum with its
focus on powers over other kinds of
magic. Well-suited for all protective
magick and all magick aimed at
strengthening one's magickal powers,
spells of control, or warding, sending,
detection, concealment, weather-
working. and protection against
lightning and evil spirits.

HAWTHORN LORE

6th Moon of the Celtic Year - (May 13

- June 9)

28
Latin name: crataegus oxyacantha (from the Greek 'kratos' - hardenss, 'oxus' - sharp, and
'akantha' - thorn). In other words Hawthorns have

Celtic name: Huath (pronounced: Hoh' uh)

Folk or Common names: Bread and Cheese Tree, Gaxels, Hagthorn, Halves, Haw, Hazels,
Huath, Ladies' Meat, May, Mayblossom, May Bush, Mayflower, May Tree, Midland Hawthorn
Quick, Thorn, Tree of Chastity.

Parts Used: Berries, wood, branches, seeds, flowers.

Herbal usage: The berries are used as a cardiac tonic. Since this is a powerful herb it is best not
to be used alone, so mix it with borage, motherwort, cayenne, garlic & dandelion flowers.
Hawthorn leaves can be used as a substitute for oriental green tea, the seeds can be roasted and
used like coffee. Hawthorn makes a light, hard, apple-like wood. Hawthorn usually doesn't grow
much bigger than a shrub, and is popular in England as a hedge plant. The wood from the
Hawthorn provides the hottest fire known. Its leaves and blossoms are used to create a tea to aid
with anxiety, appetite loss and poor circulation. The pink or white star-shaped blossom gives off
a musky scent - for many men, a strong scent of female sexuality. They are edible, sprinkled on
desserts. Young leaves (country name - pepper and salt) can be eaten in salads and sandwiches.

Magickal History & Associations: The bird associated with this month is the night crow, the
color is deepest black, and the gemstone is Lapis Lazuli. The Greeks and Romans saw the
Hawthorn as symbolic of hope and marriage, but in medieval Europe it was associated with
witchcraft and considered to be unlucky. This seeming contradiction is to be expected from a tree
with such beautiful blossoms and such deadly-looking thorns. Hawthorne has a strong
association with water. It is a Masculine herb, associated with the planet of Mars and the element
of Fire. Hawthorn is so strongly associated with the Celtic May Eve festival of Bealtaine
(Beltane) that "may" is a folk name for it. Whitethorn is another name popular in Brittany, where
the tree marks Fairy trysting places. Sacred hawthorns guard wishing wells in Ireland, where
shreds of clothing ("clouties") are hung on the thorns to symbolize a wish made. The Roman
goddess Cardea, mistress of Janus who was keeper of the doors, had as her principal protective
emblem a bough of Hawthorn. "Her power is to open what is shut; to shut what is open."
Hawthorn is also associated with the deities of Flora (orgiastic use), the White Goddess Maia,
and Hymen. There is an old legend which says that the first Hawthorn bush grew from the staff
of St Joseph. The Burning Bush of Moses is a variety of hawthorn, Crateagus pyracantha.
Hawthorn is one of the nine woods that is traditionally placed on the Bale-fire: "Hawthorn is
burned to purify And draw faerie to your eye..."

Magickal usage: The month of Hawthorn is a good time to do magick designed to clear away
old habits and spiritual cobwebs. Hawthorn can be used for protection, love and marriage, health
and prosperity, Fertility, Purification, Chastity, male potency, Fishing Magick, purity, inner
journeys, intuition, female sexuality, cleansing, and Happiness. The fey are said to especially like
Hawthorn groves, since the Hawthorn is sacred to them. Hawthorn is one of the tree fairy triad of
Britain: 'Oak, Ash and Thorn', and where all three trees grow together it is said that one may see

29
fairies. The flowers are supposed to "bring fairies into the house. Solitary Hawthorn trees
growing on hills or near sacred wells act as 'markers' to the fairy realm. It is said that a person
should never cut a blooming Hawthorn, as the fey will become angry. It is also said that sitting
under a Hawthorn tree in the month of May might mean being lost forever to the unknown,
mystic fairy world. Even today, in parts of Ireland and Wales, it is a spring custom to braid
crowns of Hawthorn blossoms and leave them for faeries, who come at night and dance around
them. This custom brings blessings to whoever left the crown. The Hawthorn blossom, for many
men, has the strong scent of female sexuality and was used by the Turks as an erotic symbol.
Uses of Hawthorn in fertility/sexual talismans include using the leaves under the bed to preserve
virginity (a good thing for those of us with teen-aged daughters (LOL). Hawthorn has long been
used to increase fertility, and because of this power it is incorporated into weddings, especially
those performed in the spring. In many parts of Europe it was customary in the spring or early
summer to go out to the woods and cut down a Hawthorn and bring it in back to the town. There
the Hawthorn was set up with much celebration. Branches of the Hawthorn were also fastened to
all the houses. This custom was said to bring the blessing which the Hawthorn tree-spirit has in
its power to bestow into the village. Hence the custom in some places of planting a May-tree
before every house, or of carrying the village May-tree from door to door so that every
household may receive its share of the blessing. May poles used to be decorated, and sometimes
even made from Hawthorn. Hawthorn has strong protective qualities. Hawthorn can be attached
to a cow barn and the cows will stay healthy and produce an enormous milk supply. A globe
made of Hawthorn can be placed in the kitchen for fire protection. Hawthorne in the rafters of a
home is good for protection against spirits, and ghosts. In the past most witch's gardens
contained at least one Hawthorn hedge for protection, as well as being one of the ingredients in
the famous Flying Ointment. Leaves can also be used as a charm to protect a newborn child and
a thorn carried in a pouch can bring good luck while fishing and can also ward off depression. A
Hawthorn branch hung from the roof or chimney of a house will protect it from lightning. Worn
or carried, Hawthorn promotes happiness in the troubled, depressed or sad. It also can be used to
promote beauty. At dawn on Beltane a young woman who wants to remain beautiful for the rest
of the year, can go bathe in the dew of the Hawthorn tree while chanting this rhyme:
"The fair maid, who on the first of May,
Goes to the fields at the break of day,
And bathes in the dew from the hawthorn tree,
Will ever strong and handsome be".
Hawthorns are a favorite tree of Witches, and we are said to be able to transform ourselves into a
Hawthorn tree at will. Hmmm, I haven't tried that one yet, but it might come in handy next time
the Jehovah's Witnesses come knocking on my door and I want to hide. Hawthorn is also a good
wood to make brooms and wands out of because of its strong bond with Witchcraft. Just make
sure that if you are going to cut off a limb of a Hawthorn tree for this use, that you do it on
Beltane, since to cut it at any other time is unlucky. It is also bad luck to pick Hawthorn flowers
before the first week of May", and it also was considered "a sign that death is on its way if
brought into the house, except for the first of May". In ancient Britain, destruction of a Hawthorn
tree might bring on tragedies such as the death of one's cattle or children and a total loss of well-
being.
Cream hue, Hawthorne wood is sacred to Aquarius and is a tree of defense with the power of
lightning. Some say it has the power to detect magic as well. Attuned to the violet spectrum it is

30
good for strengthening one’s magick powers and spells of warding and control.

HAZEL WOOD

Hazel (Koll)

Sacred to Libra and the Celtic goddess Arianrhod, called Shava and Ardiana
by the Elves - the White Goddess of Stars and the Queen of Heaven. In
Roman and Greek myth she is Venus and Aphrodite, goddess of love, but
for the Elves she is the goddess not so much of carnal love itself, but of the
enchanting power of beauty.. She is named Danu by the Celts, the
grandmother, and is called Spider Grandmother because she created the
starry net of the night sky. Her web is manifested in the twining limbs of the forest trees as they
reach upwards in worship of her. Hazelnuts feed the Salmon of Wisdom in its deep pool. Its
color is midnight blue, its stone Lapis Lazuli or Blue Sapphire. Its bird is the crane. Shava is
considered the teacher of enchanters and all worthy wizards and bards are summoned to her
table. Sacred to Shava, Hazel wood is imbued with magickal power. Its nuts feed the Salmon of
Wisdom in its deep pool. The hazelnut is also connected magically to the heart chakra. Well-
suited to magic of wisdom, beauty, charm, love, stars, navigation, and creativity.

HAZEL LORE

9th Moon of the Celtic Year - (Aug 5 - Sept 1)

Latin name: European hazel - corylus avellana; American Filbert - corylus Americana.

Celtic name: Coll (pronounced: Cull). Coll means "life force within you".

Folk or Common names: tree of Wisdom, Lamb's Tails Tree, Collo or Coslo (Gaelic), The
tree's name shares a common root with the walnut tree and its nut, or cu and hnot in Europe and
Nux in Latin.

Parts Used: Nut, leaves, branches, wood.

Herbal usage: Hazel can be used as a drainage remedy and can help restore elasticity to the
lungs. Hazelnuts, of course, can be eaten, and are a good source of phosphorus, magnesium,
potassium, copper, protein and fatty acids. The nuts can be powdered and be mixed with mead or
honeyed water to help a cough.

Magickal History & Associations: The bird associated with this month is the crane, the color is
brown, and the gemstone is band-red agate. The Hazel, a masculine herb, is associated with the
element of air, the planet of Mercury, the day of Wednesday, and is sacred to Mercury, Thor,
Artemis, Fionn, Diana and Lazdona (the Lithuanian Hazelnut Tree Goddess). Hazel wood is one
of the nine traditional firewoods that is part of the Belfire that the Druid's burned at Beltane - it
was added to the fire to gain wisdom. In fact, in ancient times the Hazel was known as The Tree

31
of Wisdom. It is often associated with sacred springs and wells and salmon. Celtic legend tell of
a grove of Hazel trees below which was a well, a pool, where salmon swam. These trees
contained all knowledge, and their fruit contained that knowledge and wisdom in a nutshell. As
the hazelnuts ripened, they would fall into the well where they were eaten by the salmon. With
each nut eaten, the salmon would gain another spot. In order to gain the wisdom of the Hazel, the
Druids caught and prepared the salmon. But Fionn, the young man stirring the pot in which the
salmon were cooking, accidentally burned his thumb with the boiling stew. By reflex, he put his
thumb into his mouth and thus ingested the essence of the sacred feast; he instantly gained the
wisdom of the universe.

Magickal usage: The Hazel has applications in magick done for manifestation, spirit contact,
protection, prosperity, wisdom, divination-dowsing, dreams, wisdom-knowledge, marriage,
reconciliation, fertility., intelligence, inspiration, and wrath. Hazel is a good herb to use to do
magick associated with asking for wisdom and poetic inspiration since the Hazel is known as the
Tree of Immortal Wisdom. In England, all the knowledge of the arts and sciences was thought to
be bound to the eating of Hazel nuts. Hazel also has protective uses as anti-lightning charms. A
sprig of Hazel or a talisman of two Hazel twigs tied together with red or gold thread to make a
solar cross can be carried as a protective good luck charm. The mistletoe that grows on hazel
protects against bewitching. A cap of Hazel leaves and twigs ensures good luck and safety at sea,
and protects against shipwrecks. In England, the Hazelnut is a symbol of fertility - a bag of nuts
bestowed upon a bride will ensure a fruitful marriage. The Hazel is a tree that is sacred to the fey
Folk. A wand of Hazel can be used to call the Fey. If you sleep under a Hazel bush you will have
vivid dreams. Hazel can be used for all types of divination and dowsing. Until the seventeenth
century, a forked Hazel stick was used to divine the guilt of persons in cases of murder and theft.
Druids often made wands from Hazel wood, and used the wands for finding ley lines. Hazel
twigs or a forked branch can be used to divine for water or to find buried treasure. The wood of
the Hazel can help to divine the pure source of poetry and wisdom. Hazelnuts can be used for
love divination. Assign the name of your passion to a nut and throw it in the fire while saying:
"A Hazelnut I throw in the flame,
to this nut I give my sweetheart's name,
If blazes the nut, so may thy passion grow,
For twas my nut that did so brightly glow."
If the nut burns brightly you then will know that your love will burn equally as brightly. Hazels
are often found at the border between the worlds where magickal things happen, and therefore
Hazel wood is excellent to use to make all-purpose wands. Any Hazel twigs, wood or nuts
should be gathered after sundown on Samhain since it will be at the peak of its magickal energy.
Hazel must not be cut with a knife, but with a flint.

HICKORY WOOD

Hickory (Axara)

Hickory is sacred to Obraash, God of the Sun, who is also Lugh

and Apollo. His color is golden yellow, his stones Citrine and
Yellow Topaz. His sacred birds are the Phoenix and the peacock.
Obraash is one of the principal fire spirits whose domain is

32
kingship, the wise use of power, unification of peoples, and wholeness, both of the individual
personality and of a society. Hickory is a hard and close-grained wood, with solar energies
similar to Oak. Because of its durability, it is traditionally used for making bats, sticks, and clubs
-- the primitive prototypes of the magick wand or royal scepter, signifying power to command
and direct action. The Eranor word axara shares a root with axalla "majesty" and lex "crown."
The hickory nut is linked to the solar plexus chakra. It is especially suited to magick of
abundance, wholeness, power, presence, command, discipline, acquisition, giving of gifts, and
the finding of direction.
Famous for wood-smoking, rather light, extremely durable, Hickory is a popular choice for
staves. It represents the power to direct action, presence, discipline and the finding of direction.

LILAC WOOD

Lilac (Galad)

Sacred to Gemini, the Twins, lilac brings the root energy

of expansion and growth, that underlies intellectual and
spiritual prosperity. Such energy is the burgeoning of
Spring flowers, sacred to the androgynous and quicksilver
Mercury, whose domain is writing, speech, song, reason,
and travel by sea, air, and star. Lilac is sacred to bards and
its intoxicating fragrance bespeaks erotic and creative
power. Galad comes from the root gal, meaning "gift"
from which other words derive: galian "hospitality," agalla "sexual pleasure," gaellië "delight,"
melengal "mystic union." All of which suggests the mysteries of gifts and giftedness, talent, and
the communication of love through delight. Lilac wood is close-grained, creamy, and smooth,
excellent for carving intricate interlace patterns. Well-suited to magick of union, attraction,
enhancement of sexual pleasure, intellectual pursuits, imagination, information, mental
concentration, travel, illusion, detection, divination.
Sacred to Gemini and brings the root energy of expansion and growth. It is sacred to bards and
bespeaks erotic creative powers. It is well suited to the magkic of union, attraction, sexual
enhancement, imagination and mental concentration.

LOCUST WOOD

Honey Locust Wood:

Loved by the fairy because of its thorns that protects fairy clearings.
Magical Properties: A mighty wand of protection and bindings. Use while working with the fairy
realm. Some use this wood with spells that deal with beauty and physical appearances.
Mustard-tinted wood, Locust is renounced as one of the strongest, native woods there is. It
relates to the ebb and flow of the ocean, holding depth, power and calm. Locust is also a patron
wood for music and the arts.

MAPLE WOOD

Maple (Shorin)

Sacred to Alban Elved (the Autumnal

Equinox) because of its fiery red and
orange colors as its leaves turn -- a bold
celebration of the season and the cycle
of death and rebirth. Poised on the
equinox, it is linked to both Libra and
Virgo, Hazel and Ash. Maple's sacred
bird is the Great Horned Owl who is
herald of the coming Feast of Samhuinn
with its magick and mystery. The owl is
a bird associated with wizards and
wisdom, and the bearing of messages in
the night. In North America, especially
in its northern parts, the Maple is a
dominant tree with many varieties, including the sugar maple from which maple syrup was made
by the Native Americans. As such it is associated with the life-giving sap of the trees, providing
food and sweetness for those who treat it with respect and care. Alban Elved is also known as the
Feast of Mabon, dedicated to the reborn son-consort of the Great Mother. The Dying God is also
the Giant Ymir of Norse myth, from whose body the world was made. Maple is a strongly
masculine wood, somewhat rebellious and tough, but with a beautiful smooth grain; hard, yet
excellent for carving. Well-suited to spells of sending and communication, binding,
transmutations, creation, revolution, rebirth, healing, beauty, art, and abundance.
Maple is a traveler's wand, helping to focus on the right choices in any situation. A strongly
masculine wood, it is tough and well-suited spells of communication, binding, transmutations &
revolution. It eases remorse for past mistakes.

OAK WOOD

34
Oak (Duir, Dwyr)

The most powerful and sacred of Druid woods, Oak

is magickally linked to the constellation Leo. It holds
power to draw lightning or the bolt of inspiration. The
Sun, which rules Leo, is the source of life and light.
Psychologically it is the center of the Self. Oak
symbolizes all solar heroes, those who venture out
from their homelands to achieve great deeds and
bring home wondrous treasures. Oak traditionally
provided not only one of the most durable woods for
construction and fuel, but also the acorn from which
the early tribes fed their pigs throughout the winter.
Oak is one of the longest lived trees, thus embodying
great wisdom as well as strength. The name Duir is
related to dwyn, "door," or "portal," the great door of a manor dwelling. It is also, of course,
often linked to drwyd, "druid" or "wizard." As the wizard wood, there is no more magickal wood
for wand making and it is especially noted for enhancing the endurance of spells against time and
counter spell. The acorn is associated magically with a helmeted head and so to the crown
chakra. Natural branches of Oak are often twisted and gnarly and have a coarse, dark grain. It is
a hard and heavy wood. Especially suited to magick of kingship and wise rule, personal
sovereignty, authority, power, protection, sealing or opening doors, endurance, and invocation of
wisdom, fertility, and abundance.

OAK LORE

7th Moon of the Celtic Year - (June 10 - July 7)

Latin name: white Oak - quercus alba; red Oak - quercus rubra; black Oak - quercus velutina;
etc.

Celtic name: Duir (pronounced: dur). Duir means 'door'.

Folk or Common names: Duir, Jove's Nuts and Juglans.

Parts Used: Wood, leaves, bark, acorns.

Herbal usage: Oaks are known for astringent tonics and therefore tea made from Oak is a good
remedy for hemorrhoids (EWWWW!). White Oak bark tea helps in sinus infections since it
helps unglog congestion. Acorns can be peeled and used to make various homeopathic potions
used to treat alcoholism, bad breath and constipation.

Magickal History & Associations: The word Duir, comes from the Sanskrit "Dwr" meaning
"door", and is the door to the three worlds of the Shaman. The Oak is associated with the element
of fire and is ruled by the sun. The bird associated with this month is the wren, the color is black,

35
and the gemstone is white carnelian or moonstone. Oak has been considered sacred by just about
every culture that has encountered the tree, but it was held in particular reverence by the Celts
and the Norse because of its size, long life, and acorns. The Druids were said to have worshiped
in Oak-groves in Gaul. In Druidic times at "Yule" all fires were extinguished, the Druids then lit
the new season fires using Oakwood as Yule logs, and all of the people would start their fires
from this source. The Oak tree is sacred to Brighid, the Dadga, Dianus, Janus, Rhea, Cybele,
Hecate, Pan, and Erato. In the Vatican, there are statues of the goddess Artemis (often as a
perpetual youth) wearing a necklace of acorns. The acorn was under the protection of Cybele
(the goddess of Nature). The Oak is also frequently associated with Gods of thunder and
lightening such as Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, and the Lithuanian God Perkunas. This association may
be due to the oak's habit of being a lightening-magnet during storms. Specific oak trees have also
been associated with the 'Wild Hunt', which is led by Herne in England and by Wodin in
Germany. King Arthur's Round Table was said to have been made from a single slab of a giant
oak tree.

Magickal usage: The month of Oak has summer solstice occurring within it, and Oak is a
powerful symbol of Midsummer. In general, Oak can be used in spells for protection, strength,
success and stability, healing, fertility, Health, Money, Potency, and good luck. The different
varieties of Oak will lend their own special 'flavor' to the magick: Red Oaks energy is a bit
lighter and more 'fiery' than the other oaks; White Oak is useful for spells requiring strength and
solidity; and Brown oak has a very earthy feel, and is useful for grounding. Acorns can be used
specifically for magick done to attract the opposite gender, increase income and prosperity, or
can be used for their divination powers. Oak is the tree known as "The King of the Grove" and
was one of the sacred three: 'Oak, Ash & Thorn'. The worship of the Oak tree may have come
from the fact that the acorn was one of the main food sources of the nomadic tribes of prehistoric
Europe. In mystic lore the acorn often represented the supreme form of fertility - creativity of the
mind. Acorns are used to increase fertility (of projects or ideas, or in matters of human
reproduction) and to ease pain. Symbolic of immortality, acorns are especially sacred to the
Samhain season, and they can be used to decorate the altar in the fall. The Oak is a holy tree and
is the lord of truth. There is a tradition that the voice of Jupiter may be heard in the rustling of its
leaves. It is said that at the summer solstice the future can be divined by listening to the wind as
it blows through the branches of an Oak tree. Oak is also a very powerful herb for protection.
The Oak has protected England through the use of its timbers for the building of ships. Oaks are
also used as boundary markers for their protective qualities. Acorns placed in a window can ward
off lightning or creatures that go bump in the night. Acorns can be carried in a pocket or charm
bag to protect the bearer from storms, from getting lost and from evil intent. An oak leaf can
worn at the breast, touching the heart, and it will protect the wearer from all deception and the
world's false glamor. A handful of Oak leaves put in the bath water will cleanse the bather both
in body and in spirit. Acorns are carried for immortality and longevity, to preserve youthfulness,
for fertility, and against illness. Three acorns can be made into a charm for youthfulness, beauty
and attainment in life. The three acorns should be tied and bound with the mage's own hair,
blessed under the new moon and the full moon, every month of the year, and then the charm
should be worn. It is said that if you can catch a falling Oak leaf you shall have no colds all
winter. When a sick person is in the house make a fire of Oakwood and warm the house with it
to 'draw off' the illness. Acorns can be planted in the dark of the moon to bring financial
prosperity. Acorns can also be placed near windows or hung from window shade pulls to bring

36
luck to a house. This custom originates from the Vikings and Druids because of the strength of
the oak tree and its ability to attract lightening. They can also be carried to bring good luck. The
Oak is a male wood which is ideal for the construction of any tool that needs the male influence
such as Athames, certain wands and staffs. The wood of an Oak tree can also be used to make
staves, or Religious Idols. The midsummer fire is always Oak and the need fire is always kindled
in an Oak log. When gathering Oak, be sure to pour wine on the roots of the tree to thank it for
allowing you to take a part of it. Acorns should be gathered in the daylight, and leaves and wood
by night. A waning moon is the correct time to harvest Oak.

Oak embodies wisdom, strength & represents stability and protection. It teaches persistence and
endurance. Noted for enhancing durability against counter-spells and increasing spell longevity.
Oak is suited to the magick of kingship, personal sovereignty & authority.

PLUM WOOD

Plum (Emrys)

37
Plum wood is not a wood expressly included in the sacred tree lists of the Elves or the Celts;
however, it is closely related to its sister, the Blackthorn, which is known as a Faerie tree of dark
omen, strong in protective magick. Sacred to Abban, God of Craft and Mountains, Plum is a fruit
wood, and so bears powers of fertility but its thorns evoke powers of great reserve and
protection, the setting of boundaries, and the ability to dissolve them. Abban, like the Greek
Hephaestos, is a jealous spirit of creative fire, whose devotion to art transcends all other
concerns. The wood itself is harder than Apple but has a similar creamy color, and the branches
are tough, knotty, and thorny. Thus Plum is a consummate wand wood for the creative artist or
anyone desiring to focus on magic that will enhance skill, overcome barriers, keep people or
disturbance at bay, evoke toughness and persistence, patience, protection, and healing, especially
of the blood. It is also well-suited for the divining of precious metals or minerals.
Related to Fae magic, especially concerning the uncovering of dark omens. It is attuned to
creative enhancement and the establishing or abolishing of boundaries and so is a handy tool for
creative promotion.

POPLAR WOOD

POPLAR / ASPEN LORE

Tree of the Fall Equinox - (Aprox. September 22)

Latin name: Common Poplar - Populus

Balsamifera; Trembling Poplar - Populus
Tremuloides; Balm of Gilead - Populus
Candicans; Black Poplar.

Celtic name: Eadha (pronounced: "Eh' uh").

Folk or Common names: All Poplar - Popple,

Alamo, Aspen; Trembling Poplar - American
Aspen, White Poplar, or Quaking Aspen; Balm of
Gilead - bombagillia.

Parts Used: Bark and buds (sap)

Herbal usage: Poplar can be used as a tonic,

chiefly used in treating fevers. The infusion has
been found helpful in treating chronic diarrhea.
Balm of Gilead buds can be used as a stimulant or
tonic. A tincture of them is useful for complaints
of the chest, stomach, and kidneys, and for
rheumatism and scurvy. The sap collected from
the buds can be used to make a healing ointment and can be used as an external application in
bruises, swellings, and some skin diseases. Teas can be made from the Poplar buds and are
useful in helping treat arthritis and rheumatism.

38
Magickal History & Associations: In Gaelic tongue the tree was called Peble and Pophuil in
the Celtic way. Poplar is generally a plant of Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun and is associated with
the element of water. Its color is rufous (red) and the bird associated with Poplar is the Whistling
Swan. The stones associated with Poplar are Amber, Citrine Quartz, Sapphire and Swan Fluorite.
The Anglo-Saxon rune poem seems to refer to the Poplar as being associated with the rune
"berkano". Heracles wore a crown of Poplar leaves in triumph after killing the giant Cacus (the
evil one) and retrieving Cerberus from Hades. The upper surface of the Poplar leaves was thus
darkened from Hades' smoky fumes. Poplar trees are sacred to the Mesopotamian goddess Ua-
Ildak. The Grass King of Grossvargula, who was seen as having fertilizing powers, went on
horseback wearing a pyramid of Poplar branches and a crown. He led a procession of young men
about the town and was then stripped of his branches beneath the Silver Lindens of Sommerberg.
Poplar (Aspen) is said to be the tree of the Autumn Equinox and of old age, and is known as the
shield makers' tree. The Black Poplar was a funeral tree sacred to Hecate as death goddess, to
Egeria, and to Mother Earth. Plato makes a reference to the use of Black Poplar and Silver Fir as
an aid in divination. The Silver Fir standing for hope assured and the Black Poplar for loss of
hope. The Grove of Persephone in the Far West contained Black Poplars and old Willows. In
ancient Ireland, the coffin makers measuring rod was made of Aspen, apparently to remind the
dead that this was not the end. In Christian lore, the quaking Poplar (Aspen) was used to
construct Christ's cross, and the leaves of the tree quiver when they remember this fact.

Magickal usage: The Poplar's ability to resist and to shield, its association with speech,
language and the Winds indicates an ability to endure and conquer. The Poplar is known as the
"Tree that Transcends Fear". Poplars symbolize the magick of joy, the aging of the year,
resurrection and hope - and are connected to the Otherworld. Poplar can be used in magick done
for success, passage and transformation, Hope, rebirth, divinations, shielding, endurance, agility
in speech and language, protection, and love - and as an aid in astral projection. Balm of Gilead
buds can be carried in tiny red bags to help mend a broken heart. These buds should be kept as
close to the heart as possible. Balm of Gilead buds can also be placed under the pillow and slept
on to heal a broken heart. It may take several days to feel relief, but this really works. Balm of
Gilead is also effective for grief, homesickness and the blues. Poplar can be used in protection
charms of all kinds. Poplar is a good wood to burn in bale fires and ritual fires since it offers
protection. Shields can be made of Poplar since the wood is thought to offer protection from
injury or death. Add some Balm of Gilead resin to your tinctures to enhance the "fixing" of the
scent and to offer some added protection to the tincture. Carrying Poplar helps to overcome the
urge to give way under the burden of worldly pressures, and aids in determination. Poplar buds
can also be carried to attract money and can be burned as an incense to create financial security.
Siberian reindeer-hunting cultures carved small goddess statues of Poplar (Aspen) wood. Groats
and fat were then offered to the figures with this prayer:
"Help us to keep healthy!
Help us to hunt much game!"
Poplar buds are also sometimes added to flying ointments and was also used in astral travel. A
medieval recipe for a flying ointment called for Cinquefoil, Poplar leaves, soot and bat's blood
obtained at the wake of the new moon. The trembling leaves of the Poplar tree can be 'read' to
divine messages from the God and Goddess, and also from spirits that drift into woods. The
Poplar is the sacred World Tree of the Lakota nation. For the sun dance ceremony, a Poplar is

39
carefully cut and lowered, then is re-erected in the center of the dance circle. While being carried
the Poplar must never touch the ground. Green branches, a buffalo skull and eagle feathers were
used to decorate the Poplar for this ceremony.

REDWOOD (SEQUOIA)

Redwood/Sequoia (Thor)

The giant redwood is the most magnificent

of all conifers and its Elvish name, Thor,
draws an association with the Norse god of
that name, spirit of thunder, storm, and
lightning. As an evergreen, Redwood is the
embodiment of life and the assertive phallic
striving upward to the sky. Its rune in the
Alferic Ogham looks like a doubling of
Tinne (see Holly above), a twin spearhead, barbed perhaps, and also resembling the stately
conifer form itself. It is associated with the constellation Sagittarius, the Archer, and the
Centaurs. It is also associated with the Stag-god Orion, who in Greek tradition is the archetypal
Hunter. Ambash, the God of Beasts is the Hunter in the Alferic tradition, but his counterpart,
from whom he is inseparable, is Orion, the hunted Stag of Summer. The Stag or White hart is the
magickal animal of the deep forest whose appearance invariably leads the heroic hunter into
some adventure in the Otherworld. Orion is in fact regarded as a spirit most closely linked to the
planet Uranus and the Greek Titan Prometheus, bringer of fire and teacher of all arts to
humankind, a spirit, as the poet Shelley argued, of rebellion and revolution. In Celtic tradition,
the redwood itself does not appear, but Pine does and is attributed to Dionysus, another iteration
of the Wild man. Magickally, Redwood is excellent for drawing down power from Heaven to
Earth, spells of religious seeking and discipline, spells of mystical union with nature and wild
animals, hunting magick, the martial arts as spiritual discipline, and spells for innovation and
sudden revelation. Usually milled Redwood is used for wands, which has a very broad and
beautiful grain, is quite lightweight and soft, and which has a dark red color without the need of
any stain. The wood tears easily as so is not well-suited to detailed carving.

WALNUT WOOD

Walnut (Yuin)

Sacred to Vashaan the Lord of Winds and

Lightning, Walnut partakes of Elemental
Air and Fire. It is perhaps the
consummate wood for weather magick.
The shape of the Walnut nut connects it
magically to the head, and so to the

40
crown chakra. Its color is turquoise blue, its stones Turquoise, Blue Topaz, and Sardonyx.
Vashaan's sacred bird is the Eagle, particularly the Bald Eagle. The rune Yuin depicts the "First
Swirlings" of the universe. It is the centripetal force of outward movement or expansion that
complements Shava's powers of attraction. Thus Yuin has power over all magical acts of
expansion: expansion of wealth, horizons, the mind, the feelings. Its scope is limitless and its age
unfathomable. The nut of the Walnut tree is linked to the Wind lord's creation myth, in which his
tempests shake the Walnut tree so that the nuts fall to earth and are buried by the squirrels. From
these nuts spring forth the race of Elves. So the war-helms of the ancient Sarith knights, the
Shazarin, are shaped like half of a walnut shell. Vashaan is called by the Elves Valma, and is
associated with the gods Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, and Vishnu. Walnut wood ranges from light to very
dark and is well-suited to wand carving. It is especially suited for wind and weather magick,
spells of expansion, vortices, enhancement of the powers of breath, spells to cast or avert
lightning, teleportation and astral travel, and inspiration.
Walnut is a thoughtful and serious wood, geared toward introspection & assists with inner
clarity.

WILLOW WOOD

Willow (Awn)

Sacred to the Moon, Omulan or Diana, Willow is

a wood of the Water Element. Willow is a tree of
emotion, love, intuition, and poetic inspiration.
Awn is pronounced ah-oon and is related to as the
Druid term awen, the sacred word of inspiration.
It is linguistically rooted to Eranor awë,
"inspiration" and hwenwë, "breath." Omulan is
the White Goddess, who has affinities with both
the Celtic goddesses Rhiannon and Arianrhod.
She is the daughter of Shava and Vashaan, and
sister to Islaar, god of magick and thought. As the
Moon she rules the cycles of female life and
becoming: menstruation, birth, and menopause.
By extension she is mistress of hearth and home
and all whatever is considered the traditional sphere of motherhood. As the great luminary of the
night she also is Astarte, goddess of witchcraft and moon magick, which is to say magick that
aims at transformation and natural harmony. Willow is especially suited to works of the New
Moon, magick related to cycles of fertility or creativity, spells of glamor and bewitchment,
change, relationship and female rites of passage. The Dark Moon, as it is called, is the time best
suited for spells of dissolving and banishment, the time to get rid of old habits that no longer
serve a good purpose in your life. Traditionally associated with witches, willow is the perfect
wand wood for the ritual of "Drawing Down the Moon." As the source of Salicylic acid, the
main ingredient in aspirin, willow is also a wood appropriate for spells intended to remove pain
and give comfort.

WILLOW LORE

41
5th Moon of the Celtic Year - (April 15 - May 12)

Latin name: Weeping Willow: salix babylonica; black Willow: salix nigra

Celtic name: Saille (Sahl' yeh)

Folk or Common names: Willow, Witch's Tree, Pussy Willow, Salicyn Willow, Saille, Sally,
Withe, Withy, Witches' Aspirin, Tree of Enchantment, Osier, Tarvos Tree, and Sough Tree. The
Anglo-Saxon 'welig' from where the name 'willow' is derived, means 'pliancy'.

Parts Used: Bark, sap, twigs, branches, wood.

Herbal usage: The bark of the Willow has been used as a pain killer... the bark contains a
glusoside called Salicin that forms Salicylic acid which is the 'active ingredient' in aspirin. The
bark has astringic qualities and can be used for rheumatic conditions, heartburn and as a diuretic.
The sap gathered from the tree when it is flowering can be used to treat facial blemishes and
dandruff.

Magickal History & Associations: The bird associated with this month is the hawk, the color is
haze, and the gemstone is blood-red Carbuncle. The Willow, a Feminine herb, is associated with
water, and is an herb of the moon. Willow wood is one of the nine traditional firewoods to be
added to the Belfire that is burned at Beltane - as the tree of death that is Sacred to Hecate,
Willow is added to the fire as a celebration of death. The Willow is sacred to Minerva who
invented numbers and also to Artemis, Ceres, Persephone, Brigid, Hera, Helice, Mercury, Belili,
and Circe. The Sumerian goddess Belili was a goddess of trees, and Willows in particular. The
Willow is also associated with Orpheus, regarded by the Creeks as the most celebrated of poets.
It is said that Orpheus received his gifts of eloquence and communication by carrying Willow
branches on his journey through the Underworld. A bas-relief in a temple at Delphi portrays
Orpheus leaning against a Willow tree, touching its branches. Pagan associations with the
Willow have always been strong, for they are often revered as trees of the Moon Goddess, she
who reflects her moon magick upon the waters of Earth. Willow was often the tree most sought
by the village wise-woman, since it has so many medicinal properties, and eventually the
Willow's healing and religious qualities became one and the tree became called 'witch's tree'. The
Willow is also associated with the fey. The wind in the Willows is the whisperings of a fairy in
the ear of a poet. It is also said that Willow trees can uproot themselves and stalk travelers at
night, muttering at them.

Magickal usage: The Willow has applications in magick done for enchantment, wishing,
romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magick for women, death, femininity, love,
divination, friendship, joy, love, and peace. Placed in homes, Willow branches protect against
evil and malign sorcery. Carried, Willow wood will give bravery, dexterity, and help one
overcome the fear of death. If you knock on a Willow tree (knock on wood) this will avert evil.
A Willow tree growing near a home will protect it from danger (I know this to be true. When the
tornado hit our farm, the only reason we only lost part of the roof, rather than the whole house,
was because the grove of Willows around the house protected us. Our poor Willows got pretty

42
battered by the storm, lost most of their leaves and quite a few branches, but have recovered fully
now!). Willows are also a good tree to plant around cemeteries and also for lining burial graves
for its symbolism of death and protection. Willows can be used in rituals for intuition,
knowledge, gentle nurturing, and will elucidate the feminine qualities of both men and women. If
a person needs to get something off their chest or to share a secret, if they confess to a Willow,
their secret will be trapped. Also, wishes are granted by a Willow tree if they are asked for in the
correct manner. Willow leaves, bark and wood add energy to healing magick, and burning a mix
of Willow bark and Sandalwood during the waning moon can help to conjure spirits. Uses of
Willow in love talismans include using the leaves to attract love. Willow leaves or twigs can also
be used in spells to create loyalty, make friendship pacts, treaties, or alliances. A rejected lover
can wear Willow as a charm to win back the love. To determine if you will be married in the new
year:
"Throw your shoe high up
into the branches of a Willow tree;
If the branches catch and hold the shoe,
you soon will married be."
Willows have many uses to Witches, the most common is that the wood is used to make wands
for moon magick. Willow wands can also be used to dowse for water (underground), earth
energies, and buried objects. (The Witch should be careful to ask for the tree's blessings before
taking a branch to make a wand.) The supple long-ending branches of the Willow make good
weaving materials to use to weave circlets and wreaths. Willow wood is good for making
magical harps.
Willow is light as air to hold & sensitive to emotion, intuition & associated with Awn (sacred
Druidic word for inspiration).

CHILDREN OF BODOM and 2CENTS, with the
first two bands sharing the main support slot.
AEG Live, Live Nation and independents will

Borror at The Agency Group. "This is my first
run working with the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
team and, not that I didn't know it already, but once
you get past scratching the surface you really see
how vital this band is and what a huge icon Zakk
[Wylde] is," Borror tells Billboard.biz.
"This tour has more to offer than most, and I think
we have a package that is going to wake people up
to what BLS and the bands Zakk chose as support

Whittling Widdlers of the Woods of Wiss

Welcome to the Web of The Whittling Widdlers of the Woods of Wiss
The Ancient Arte of Wissing
Come all ye who wish to partaketh in ye Ancient ways of the Whittlers

We are a pre-christain Coveen of Ancient Traditional Crafters , wise in the Wiss of ye Olde
ways.

To Join this highly secretive Tradition, one has to partaketh in the drinketh of ones wisseth
( Armitige Shanks Best ) then one becomes Initiated ( Inebriated) into our path

We are not Amused by certain claims to ye Olde TRUE ways of the Wisser !

We do not participate in rituals with dangly bits hingin oot , nor do we see the need in calling the
quaters , we do things in PINTS !

We do not proselytize & we are not evangelical!

If you do NOT join us, then you WILL be forever at the pearly gates upon your death whishing
you had!

52
ARE YOU INITIATED ?

Merry Fart & Bloated be

W.W.W.W.
Testimonial from Tas, an Initiate !
I can assure you all, gentle prospective members, that the Wolvie Whittler does NOT tell fibs!
Indeed, never have I witnessed such wonderfully creative Widdling. (And especially when the
moon is fat. )

I speak as one Initiated into the ways of the original Olde Tradition of the Bushe, without which
no potential Widdler can begin working.

In case any would be members are concerned about their aptitude for this Path, I would advise
some proper research; unfortunately much of what has been written is flawed, being the product
of wannabe Widdlers, and having NO real resemblance to the One True Stream of Ancient
Knowledge, as passed down from Grannies of Olde.

Our Path can be traced back to the Tena Ladies, keepers of the ancient Widdle Lore since the
dawn of history. And only wee can tell you the REAL meaning behind such enigmas as:

Stonehenge,
The AOGB - aka the Ancient Order of the Golden Bottle,
and much much more...

Do you dare to take that first welly booted step?

Realms Crafts, and Rituals

53
CAULDRON CANDLES

wax (left-over candles will work fine)

candle wicking (wicking from broken
candles work fine)
bucket
sand
coffee can and pan
pencils or chop sticks
small cauldron (optional)

Directions:

Put the sand in the bucket and wet with

water until it holds its shape when pressed. If you have a small cauldron, press it
into the wet sand. If you DON'T have a small cauldron, use your fist to make the
impression. With a pencil (eraser end) make three indentations at the bottom of the
impression - these will be the cauldron legs. Insert the candle wick into the bottom
of the impression. Lay the chop stick over the top of the impression and set the
wick against it so it will help support the wick once you pour the wax. Put the wax
into the coffee can and set the coffee can in a pot of boiling water until the wax
melts. DON'T EVER LEAVE THE STOVE. Wax can catch fire! Wearing oven
mitts, pour the wax into the impression in the sand. Allow to cool thoroughly.
When cool, scoop the candle out with your hand.

POMANDER BALLS
Items needed:

Orange
cloves
toothpick (optional)
ribbon (optional)

Push cloves into the orange (you can use the toothpick to make a hole first if you'd
like). You can make a design with the cloves if you wish, or just place them
randomly. Tie the ribbon around the pomander ball to hang, or simply place the

54
pomander ball on a small plate, etc. These smell great, and are a good craft for the
harvest holidays and Yule.

TO MAKE A HERB BROOM

Items needed:

Collect handfuls of plants to use such as:

Yarrow
Cedar
Juniper
Fruit tree sprigs
Oak tree sprigs
Birch or ash sprigs
Bundle plants together and tie cut ends together.
The bundle may be tied to a branch if a longer handle is desired. Use the broom to
sweep away negativity and to sweep your magic circle clean.

The power of words & objects

By Andrew

This is something that is very important when dealing with any type of
spirit, & it is something just just get over looked way to much, or just
simply taken for granted!

Our minds or so strong that it will begin to identify w/ objects & words,
& a lot of time this happens with out us even realy noticeing it. In the
occult we have many tools that we use for ritual work & everyday spell
work, & most of the time we take them for granted. the truth is all that
they are is a focal point used to take the mind to a deeper state of
trance(gnosis) & trigger that part of the mind for the work that is about
to take place. Then it after wards it is put away out of sight & the
energies of everything else, which is why we usually have our ritual area
set in a permanent place & we keep it clean & cleansed after each ritual,

55
it is the most clean place in our homes in truth. This is what we should
be doing to everything around us & every item we let into our lives.

We should never put any value in any material object, for when we do
this we now give it power over us, in a sense we give it a part of us,
which in turns makes that object a very dangerous pice that can be used
against us, for know it has the ability to affect us & even effect our very
minds, even your picture can be used against us, for it can be used as a
focal point to directly attack you. The other danger when we do this is
sometimes we just can't seem to let go of it, we are so attached to it, it
means so much to us, it is a part of us, yeah I think you are seeing the
point here now, it now has possession over you, & it was you that gave it
that power, not the spirit that now resides in it, & it now has control over
you. This is why it is so important to never put any value in any object,
the best way to look at it is it is just a tool that has one use & when done
is discarded & thrown away for it has served it's perpuse. As far as our
ritual tools go, it is the same for them, for as you grow you learn that
you no longer need them, to access those parts of your mind, for
everything we need we have WITHIN OUR SELVES!!!!

Words wow how many times can this be said, never enough to be
truthful. A word is like a disease it can effect & spread, it is the strongest
gift ever given to man, it can create & destroy, it can give hope, & take it
away, It can move a nation to do the untold. So why do we give words
power over us? A word is just a word until given meaning & power. If I
call you a Bitch in most case I am going to get a reaction out of you, &
there fore I just gain power over you, yeah you might kick my ass, but I
just found a word that I can use against you & in the occult world that is
a very bad thing! & in every culture words have different meanings &
uses, same applies in the spirit world, the most strongest words of power
that are still use today, is hebrew, Latin, Arabic, Sandscript/coptic, &
Enochian. And a couple of these are almost a lost language in them
selves. But in the end if we don't believe in such words then they have
no meaning. Example I Lord Smilie command thee                   to leave
this person body & to return to where you come form, harming non on ur

56
return there I command this in the Names of Adonai haaretz, Eloheem
tzaboath,..ect... They will do as I say but if I say I comand you to leave
this persons body by the Name of Jesus Christ, I'm in trouble it has no
meaning to me & therefore no power, where as a true christian that
belives this & gives it power, well it will work, I have seen it happen.
because of my beliefs his name as no power to me. this is why it is
important to only give words that mean something to us power, & only
when it is time to use them. Meaning no word should ever have power,
unless it is my intent for it to have it for the purpose at hand, &
afterwards to be just a word that has no meaning till the time calls for it
again!

We are our own worst enemy's when it comes to spiritual attacks,
because in the end either we sought such spirits out, or given something
power over us. We do it every day of our lives, it doesn't have to be a
word, object, or spirit, It could be a person as well, even the one that we
love, for we give them the most power over us, because we love them &
are a part of them, & if you don't believe me, ask your self this, what
would you do for the one's you truly love to protect them from death or
any harm that may cause this? In the end it falls on us to protect
ourselves & those that we love, & it starts by only letting things have
true meaning that should have it, & only when it needs to have it.
Everything is a tool that as one use, once used it no longer has a
meaning or use & is to be discarded. Harsh I know, but this is the
mentality that you most have to protect your self & the ones you love,
for if not then you have become a danger to them
all & your self!

DEAR
WITCHY

57
Who needs dear Abby when we have are very own Dear Witchy,
To send her questions here is the link, you have till Friday nite to
get your questions in each week
.http://therealms.ning.com/profile/Witchy
Dear Witchy,
When dealing with sex magic
what is the best way to get myself & my partner
to get the highest state of sexual union
so that our magical work has the most potency?
Sincerely,
?

Dear ?
The most effective workings are from partners who
love each other and have at least some sexual attraction
or "chemistry" between them. This also helps to have
a loving and communicative exchange during sex
which in turn automatically balances their individual
energies and the flow of energy between them.
Keep in mind that men tend to be aroused quicker
than women so a mixed-gender couple may need
to take extra time to tune into each other. If we are
talking about single-gender couples, they tend to tune
into each others rhythms/energies more easily however
male couples should take extra time so that the depth
of power can build. Lying temple to temple can also
help you and your partner attune to each other,
and oh yes,...know where your partners G-spot is located
and stroke it accordingly. Do not be concerned if you
do not reach orgasm simultaneously, simply continue
until the second partner has peaked.
Being healthy and clean are also an important part,..
prepare yourselves mentally and physically for sex magic
as you normally would before performing any ritual.
Lets see,...a ritualistic bath, using the proper herbs,
incenses and oils specific to sex magic and your purpose
(the list of which is way to long to go into detail here
about so if you are unsure of which of those to use explore
your library or occult shop), having a "Great Rite Kit" handy
( something to hold your special oils, lubricants,
massage oils, clean towels,"toys" and condoms inside)
are some additional tips I suggest.
YES, I said condoms,...
colored to match the colors you are using for your purpose

58
would be perfect however whichever you use, do keep
in mind that "safe sex" is perfectly effective for sex magic.
Blessed Be Indeed!

Hello friends wanted to share a story my daughter wrote for a

school assignment i was so happy to read it so wanted to share it
with all of you......

Something went wrong

 Angelina Melendez(Lady Pandora's daughter)
It was a rainy night Tom and Jerry went for a ride to visit their friends in
the country. Jerry filled the car with gas before they left on their drive.
Five hour later Jerry realized they were out of gas and they passed a gas
station three miles back. They pulled up to this old house but as they
were pulling up it started to pour down rain.
Tom was thinking something went wrong, and then he said “we
can’t just sit here let go knock and see if someone is home so we can use
the phone and get some shelter from this storm”. They knocked on the
door and no one answered Tom was going to knock again when all of a
sudden the door opened by itself. They walk inside and Tom found the
light switch when the lights came on they noticed the house was in bad
shape there were cob webs everywhere.
They searched the house and went upstairs and noticed a bedroom with two beds in it.
They found old pictures hanging on the wall. Thinking this might be worth something Tom takes
it off the wall and puts it in his back pack.  Then they decided to get some sleep. As they laid
down Jerry hear a strange sound coming from the attic. He was a little scared and asked Tom if
he hears that, “heard what”, said Tom. “That sound that came from the attic, it sounds like
someone walking around up there”. Said Jerry.  “I think we should check it out”. Said Jerry.
They lie down and try to go back to sleep when Jerry hears a voice whispering “give it
backkkkkkkk”. Now they both jump up and yell “WHO’S THERE”!
They head to the attic, but there is a door there that leads up to the attic. They both look at
each other and pull up their courage but as Tom reaches for the door it shots open and slams in to
the wall. Had to be the wind they thought because they were alone in the house or were they.
Slowly Tom and Jerry walk up the attic stairs, they reach the top and see nothing out of the
ordinary so they go deeper in to the attic and notice there is no window so how did that door
open and slam into the wall. “There has to be a draft somewhere”. Said Tom. Then they hear the
whisper again “give it backkkkk”.  They look around the attic in fright “WHO’S THERE”.
They yell. Now they are really scared where was this voice was coming from. They were both in
the attic and they didn’t see anyone. Then they see it in the corner “wwhat is that”? They say.

59
The from starts to take shape they see long black hair in a long old fashion gown. Then they
notice the girls eye they where red as fire. The ghostly figure points a finger at Tom and says
“GIVE IT BACK WHAT YOU HAVE TAKEN FROM ME”! “What did you take Tom”? Jerry
asks. Tom looks away “Nothing, I don’t have anything”.
At that the ghost rushes in front of tom and says “LIAR, you have stolen from my home
and if you don’t give it back you will pay the consequences”. They are terrified and both run
down the stairs to get there things and leave as fast as they could. But the ghost had other plans
for them. As they get to the front door the ghost appears in front of the door “you will not leave
till you return to me what you have taken”. She points to toms back pack. Jerry says “Tom
whatever you took give it back”! Tom said I have nothing”. Jerry pulls the back pack away from
Tom and looks inside and what do you think he found, the old picture that Tom had stole from
the bedroom. Jerry gave it back to the ghost. Now happy she goes away and Jerry and Tom run
as fast as their feet could take them. And the lesson here my friends, NEVER STEAL FROM A
HAUNTED HOUSE OR THE GHOST WILL COME AFTER YOU TO GET HER
BELONGINGS BACK.

                                                THE END

A Little Pagan Humor

Coven Rules
Dear Ones:
Every Coven should have some rules that people can look at so they know what sort of
conduct is appropriate or inappropriate for members, and
knowing them being helpful to harmony and fellowship within Coven. Here are a few that I
am thinking about instituting:

No coven member shall consume their weight in beans before arriving for ritual.
This has happened in the past, and the results can be devastating. It is unpleasant when 32 cubic
yards of methane are unexpectedly released into the atmosphere within Circle, and other Coven
members begin dropping to the floor unconscious, turning blue, gasping for air and struggling
to keep from being overcome by the vapor. Add to this, the presence of the open flame of the
candles on the altar and the quarter candles. Several years ago, the north wall of our altar room
was blown clear out when the methane expelled was detonated by the flame of a single candle
and the explosion that followed interrupted our rites. Please be considerate of others, and make
every effort not to render them victims of a tragic episode, particularly as the Guardian of air is
called. We evoke the power of the winds, but make every effort not to break wind.

Some people feel a need to wear something on their feet while attending ritual.
It is suggested that slippers or socks might be acceptable. However, showing up for a skyclad
ritual wearing nothing but cowboy boots is utterly unacceptable. This is particularly true if there

60
should be actual shit clinging to those shit kickers!!!! This will definitely be frowned upon.

If the rite is to be skyclad, please remember your position in space in relation to the
candles.
While folks of another religion may appreciate the odd burning bush, we have noted this can
lead to negative effects upon a Covener who carelessly fails to exercise due caution, and
inadvertently ignites their genitalia! Remember folks, "Never Again the Burning Times"also
applies to Witches in our Circle.

When skyclad rites are conducted do not pluck a handful of hair from between the cheeks
of the High Priest while his back is turned.
I would remind everyone that Rogaine is fairly expensive, and difficult to apply to one's
backside. Worse, creates the possibility some embarrassing moments. For example: Your High
Priest was recently visiting a distant city and stayed in a motel near the interstate. Can you
imagine the awkward moment which ensued when the maid entered the room to change the
linen, only to find your High Priest standing on a chair with his pants bunched up in a pile
around his ankles, his butt reflected in a mirror, as he tried with questionable results to aim the
spray at his derriere? Oh, sure, we can laugh about it now... but such misfortunes present your
High Priest with great dismay!

Please use deodorant before arriving for ritual.

As we all raise our arms in welcome to the Lord and Lady, it would be nice if they are not
dropped from the sky by an assault on their senses that leaves them crashing into the Circle by
an unexpected blast that renders them incapacitated. If this can have that sort of effect upon the
Gods themselves, how much more likely would it be to immobilize your brothers and sisters in
Circle???

When doing robed rituals, please lend some consideration to the material of which your
robes are made.
Nogahyde is right out, as are robes that faintly resemble the battle regalia of Atilla the Hun!
Similarly, while it may be cute, a robe festooned with images of Homer Simpson, Bart, and the
rest of the Simpson family... are contrary to the atmosphere we are attempting to establish.

Do not wear combat boots in Circle.

When doing rituals as a group outdoors, you will likely need something on your feet, but we tend
to take a dim view of combat boots in Circle. It tends to establish the wrong ambiance.

Curb your guide dog prior to circle.

If you are visually impaired, and must be accompanied into Circle by a guide dog, please make
certain the animal has accomplished all of its duties outdoors, rather than simply showing up in
the altar room and hoping for the best.

Keep your dog by you!

On a similar note, it is nice if the animal is neutered. While it may be funny to see a Coven
member trying to participate in a Spiral dance with your dog affixed to his leg, the Coven
member is likely to form a resentment. Familiars are wonderful helpers to the Witch, so long as

61
they do not become overly familiar!!!!

Don't score the High Priest and High Priestess!

Your High Priest and High Priestess, while appreciating the compliment, are nevertheless apt to
take a dim view of their Coveners holding signs which have 9.3, 8.6, 9.5, 7.9 and such relating to
performance and style points. Please remember this is Witchcraft, not the ABC Wide World of
Sports!!!

We will keep you apprised of any other rules which may need to be implemented as the need arises.
Thank you for your cooperation.
