Fossils are the remains of plants or animals that got preserved over
millions of years. It is an animal or a plant that died millions of years ago and fell
into soft mud or sand making an impression. The mud or sand over years
hardened into rock preserving the impression of the body.

Fossils are basically degraded living things which responsible for


reformation of earth’s productive natural things. They teach us how life got to
where it is now and the dangers that they went through and faced in its’ own
time. It gives us a peek to what life was like. Study of fossils become important
due to continuous developing man-made technology that leads to degradation of
natural resources which increase the importance of study of fossils.

Fossils are found all over the earth. The best places to find fossils are
river valleys, cliffs, hillsides, quarries, and road cuttings. Once a new fossil bed is
discovered, a team of scientists usually comes along to excavate the area. They
systematically section off the site and carefully records geographical coordinates,
elevation, and other important benchmark features.
