Ceremony! What a terrific day! Before we
hand out some awards, let’s thank the people
who made this great event work… all the
volunteers and sponsors…coaches…

Awards Ceremony for this year’s Iowa FLL
Regional Competition, World Class. Please

their fantastic performance! Thank you for
attending, and we look forward to seeing you

The FLL program would not exist without its volunteers. This award
honors an extraordinary volunteer(s) whose dedication to the FLL
program has a positive impact on the team experience.

Adult Coach/Mentor Award - optional


Many teams reach significant milestones thanks to their close
relationship with an adult mentor. This award goes to the coach or
mentor whose wisdom, guidance, and devotion are most clearly
evident in the team’s discussion with the judges.

Against All Odds Award- optional


This award goes to the team that improvises and overcomes a
difficult situation while still making a respectable showing, with an
attitude that shows, “We can overcome incredible odds if we never
give up, no matter what!”

Judges’ Award - optional


During the course of competition the judges may encounter teams
whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition.
Some teams have a story that sets them apart in a unique way.
Sometimes a team is so close to winning an award that the judges
choose to give special recognition to the team. Judges Awards allow
the freedom to recognize remarkable teams that stand out for
reasons other than the Core Award categories. Today, our judges

This award recognizes a team that the judges notice and expect
great things from in the future.

Team Spirit Award (certificate)


You know they are coming before you see them. Their enthusiasm
and laughter catches you off guard every time. You may not know
the team name or number, but you can describe what they look like
and what they do. Everyone knows them! They create a lot of
excitement, and they make science and technology fun, accessible,
and rewarding.

REQUIRED AWARDS
Robot Awards
For the Robot category, judges look for teams whose work stands
out for innovation and/or dependability. To assess innovation, the
judges watch the robots work and look for things that make them
say “Wow!” They interview team members to reveal the less obvious
unique and inventive ideas.

Robot Performance
This award recognizes a team that scores the most points during
the Robot Game. Teams have a chance to compete in at least three
2.5 minute matches and their highest score counts.

This award recognizes the team that scored the most points during
the Robot Game.

Robot Design Award*


This award recognizes a team that designs and develops a
mechanically sound robot that utilizes outstanding programming
principles, and solid engineering practices and a well-developed
strategy to design and build an innovative, high performing robot.

Project Awards
The purpose of the FLL project is to show that individuals can make
a difference by researching a problem, then contributing ideas and
solutions to real-world issues. Your conclusions and solutions are
the result of working hard to truly understand the size of a problem
through research and hands-on learning experiences.

Project Award
This award recognizes a team that utilizes diverse resources to
formulate an in-depth understanding of the problem they have
identified while providing a solution that is exceptionally well-
considered and creative to both the judges and other potential
supporters.

Core Values Awards


The FLL Core Values are at the heart of everything FLL teams do
throughout the season. Teams work as a team in the spirit of
friendly competition to have fun and learn throughout the season.
FLL teams understand that what they discover is far more important
than what they win, and that they always do the work with guidance
from their coaches and mentors.

This award recognizes the teams that were noted as being the most
well-rounded throughout the tournament event. These teams will
have an invitation to advance to the state championship at Iowa
State University along with our Champion’s award winner.
