Mrs. Elizabeth Carnahan
Principal
F. J. Reitz High School
350 Dreier Blvd.
Evansville, Indiana 47712

Dear Mrs. Carnahan

I am writing you in regards to an open position as an English teacher in your school.
I originally heard about the opening this past spring at the Teacher Recruitment Fair
at the University of Southern Indiana when I spoke with the EVSC’s superintendent,
David Smith.

I chose to write to you over all of the other high schools in Evansville because I
would love nothing more than to return to my alma mater to start my career in
education. I graduated from F. J. Reitz in 2014 and I would be over joyed to come
back and be apart of the Reitz legacy of teachers who also graduated on this hill.
Reitz is where I discovered my passion for the English language, literature, and
writing. I am confident that I would be able to influence students the same way I
was just a few years ago.

I’ve found that over the years I’m able to appreciate the mission statement and
vision statement more than I did as a student. Reitz is where I learned the sense of
unity within our community as well as how important it was to be diverse in your
own way. Within the walls of Reitz, I also learned the importance of work ethic and
how important it was to encourage others to strive for their best and how a good
attitude can change the overall outcome of a situation. This is the kind of school I
want to not only be apart of as alumni, but to be apart of as an educator.

Since my graduation from Reitz and the time spent at the University of Southern
Indiana working on my degree in English education, I have accumulated, learned,
and mastered several necessary skills that would aide me in being the best educator
I can be. I have greatly expanded on my communication and public speaking skills
and I am confident that I can properly communicate to every student who walks
through my classroom door. I have also perfected my skills with technology such as
the Promethean boards and ThinkPads as well as with software and applications
that I know is commonly used in the classroom like Google Documents, Microsoft
Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel. I’ve attended workshops on how to create a
safe and welcoming classroom and have also taken seriously the classes needed for
my secondary education minor to ensure that all students of every background can
properly excel under my instruction and can feel like they belong there.

I would be elated if you were to get back with me about an interview. You can reach
me by either email or phone, which ever you prefer; my email is
klsalts@eagles.usi.edu and my phone number is (812)431-1945.

Sincerely yours,

Kennedy L. Salts
