Do these rules represent my personal teaching philosophy?

These rules and procedures reflect my teaching philosophy because I want to hold my students

accountable for their actions and show them what it means to be respectful to one another. I

really believe that in our current social climate, teaching respect will lead to tolerance and

understanding. Students will be responsible for their own actions and work to improve

themselves academically and intrinsically. I want to be the facilitator of knowledge but allow

them to think creatively and openly without judgment. I will work to ensure that my rules and
procedures reflect the needs of diverse learners. I can do this by reviewing the different

demographics of my students and understanding their cultures and beliefs. If I can do this, it may

help me understand their points of views and what is important to them. I can then cater my

procedures to their needs.

Communicating Discipline: How might this look?

Purpose of discipline

Students needs I will keep in mind are - I will consider Maslow’s

hierarchy of needs and
incorporate this into my
classroom. Especially
belongingness and love needs.

My own needs that I will try to meet are - To feel like I am making a
positive impact on my students

My dislikes include - When my rules are disrespected

and not followed

Classroom Procedures

Beginning the Class Period (Everston & Emmer, 2017)

1. I will stand at the doorway before the class period and welcome students in. I think
that this will help me see the moods of my students and prepare myself for the class
period.
2. Students will submit homework or assignments in the designated folders on the way
to their seats.
3. Attendance Check
a. Class will begin with a warm up question(s) that students will respond to
using new technology. I will physically take attendance during this period.
4. Absences
a. Worksheets and lecture notes will be printed in weekday folders for students
to access before or after the class period.
b. Late work policy will be described in the syllabus. Late work will be accepted
up to 2 days after the due date for partial credit (The student can use this
“pass” once each quarter. Unless the student has an excused absence.
c. This will be communicated the first week of school
5. Outline of the Period
a. The schedule plan of the class should be presented to the students at the
beginning of the period

Transitions (Everston & Emmer, 2017)

1. Instruction will be clearly outlined and verbalized to the students before any transition
into a new activity.
2. During this, expectations for behavior and procedures will be explained leaving little
to no confusion.

Ending the Class Period (Everston & Emmer, 2017)

1. Clean Up
a. All materials used during the class period should be returned. Cleaning areas of
use if necessary. Directed by the teacher.
2. Signal for Dismissal
a. Before dismissal closing conversation and brief overview of what will be covered
next class. Here I will reiterate any materials that will be required for next class as
well as homework or assignments due.
b. I will also use this time to hand back any assignments that have been graded. This
way students will not be distracted with this work during the class period.
i. Grading will be completed within one week of the due date. This will be
the consistent procedure which will allow me to hold myself accountable.
My students will also always know when their work will be returned
removing any doubt or questioning.
c. I will dismiss students once this has been completed. If we are to finish early
students will be free to socialize until the bell rings.
3. Communicating with Parents
a. I will communicate with parents via email or phone.
b. I plan to send out monthly calendars of the students’ assignments and important
dates so the parents are informed.
c. I will also use technology that allows the parents to follow what is happening in
the classroom in real time and allow the students to share their work for parents to
see.
d. I hope to have two conferences with the parents/guardians. One at the beginning
of the school year and one at the end of the school year. I would ideally like to
discuss the progression of their child throughout the year.
