My name is Lillian Ling, and I am seventeen years old. I went to Sassarini elementary and Altimira middle school. My favorite subjects are math and science. I didn’t play any sports in high school, but I’ve been in the mock trial team since freshman year. Outside of school, I help my parents by working at my parents’ restaurant, which is where I spend the majority of my weekends.
I have two sisters, one older and one younger. My younger sister is in seventh grade, while my older sister is in her senior year at UC Santa Cruz. We’ve lived in Sonoma our whole lives, but we recently moved to Petaluma. Next year, I plan to go to UC Irvine, majoring in computer science and engineering.
For my senior project, I was a part of a program called LEAP with four other seniors. In junior year, it was presented by Mr. Kelly as a senior project that could be done on campus, during school hours. The project was to mentor and tutor a group of freshmen, with the goal of helping them in their classes and transition to high school. Each of us was assigned a group of seven freshmen to help. Though it was an individual project, we could work together to organize, hold tutoring sessions, and talk about our progress with our freshmen.
At the completion of my senior project, I hope that the freshmen felt that they were supported and had resources to turn to. However, there were issues with my own organization and the freshmen’s willingness to participate. I didn’t really meet with the freshmen as much as I was supposed to, which was a fault on my part. If I were to restart my project, I would change part of how the project was structured as well as put much more effort in meeting and talking to the freshmen. Nevertheless, as a typically shy person, I am happy that I was able to introduce myself to new people and take on a different role with them than I usually would.
Thank you for taking the time to look at and review my senior project.
