Characteristics of the 21st century teacher.

If we look up into our dictionary and find the word teacher, it’s defined as
someone who teaches or instruct. Then it’s shifting, a teacher is not only someone
who teaches but it also someone who educate and facilitate the students. With the
rapid changing of the world, the teacher’s role is not only as a facilitator but also as
an inspiration/ motivator. Why? Because teacher needs to prepare the students to
engage with complex challenges in the 21st century, especially in English language
teaching (since English is not our native language but use globally), for this
challenging global world, here the characteristics that’s crucial for a teacher

- Technology driven
Our students now are the native of the digital era. It’s so hard to attract them.
With the help of the technology or the digital apps now, it makes teacher
easier to do their tasks. With the help of the technology, teacher gets
limitless learning resources. That can help the students learn effectively and
interestingly. Thus it enhances the students to enrich their critical thinking,
communication skills, collaboration, and creativity.
- Innovative
As we think that creativity is one of the skills that the students need in this
global world. We as the teachers need to initiate things first. We need to be
innovative in how do we look at what our students’ need and create
opportunities for them to learn deeply and in meaningful ways? How do our
students become these same innovators?
- Collaborative
In this digital era, networking becomes easier and crucial as well. To make
the learning process become meaningful we need to provide the students
with the best experiences that can be gained anywhere or anyone.
- Lifetime learner
The world’s changing day by day, the new technologies are emerging.
Teacher need to keep the knowledge of the latest changes in their subject.
It’s necessary for teachers to learn the newest technology to help the
students. In other words, they know how to combine the technology,
pedagogy, and content which will engage problem solving and cooperative
learning.
Characteristics of the 21st century learner.

The twenty-first-century education depends on thinking skills, interpersonal skills,


information media, technological skills as well as life skills. To survive here are
the characteristics of learners:

- learning & innovation skills


To face more complex problem in the 21st century, thus a focus on creativity,
critical thinking,
Communication and collaboration is essential to prepare students for the
future. As we know that our curriculum now, is also focus on these skills.
- Information, Media, and Technology Skills
With the advanced of technology and easily accessible information, students
need to have range of functional and critical thinking skills such as
information literacy, media literacy, and ICT literacy.
- Life & Career Skills
Today’s students not only need to develop thinking skills and content
knowledge, but also social and emotional competencies to navigate complex
life and work environment that they will experience later.
