ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM

No matter what the distance is even if you’re in the farthest and most far flung place,
learning is still possible. Our country have paved the way to bringing learning and education
with the use of ALS programs. This proves that learning is not only isolated on the 4 walls of
the classroom.

We are already in the era of globalization, where teachers are the utmost in meeting the
challenge of world, in today’s generation, education is really essential to everybody. But we
cannot avoid deterrents in achieving the formal education we wanted that is why ALS program
is a very big help. The role of mobile teachers or ALS teachers is to provide and deposit
information and also to teach essential skills that may help them in their everyday living.

Alternative Learning System or ALS is a non-formal education program in the


Philippines for drop outs, out of school youths and those who cannot afford to attend Forma
School. Unlike in formal schooling, ALS does not require children to attend the class everyday
on the other hand, it requires them to choose schedules according to their choice and
availability. The beauty in it is that learners can have their class in places they are comfortable
like under the trees, centers and many more.

ALS help the people to become more educated and accessible to knowledge through
this program many out of school youths continue to follow their dreams. After completing the
program they will be competitive enough because of the skills they have learned. It also helps
them to put up their own businesses and achieve self-employment. It is a gateway it making
their lives become better. The Philippines has been targeting the Education for all, where there
is no person is being left behind. This goal of the government cannot be addressed alone by
formal education, those who cannot afford to attend the formal school are addressed by the
ALS program. The program is really a big help, learners acquired the basic literacy that is
needed for them to be qualified in job opportunities.
