Introduction

Alternative Learning System


The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a free education program
implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd) under the
Bureau of Alternative Learning System which benefits those who
cannot afford formal schooling and follows whatever is their available
schedule. Also, It is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that
provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction. ALS
includes both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and
skills.

ALS Non-formal Education happens outside ALS is intended for out-of-
the classroom, community-based, usually school youth and adults
conducted at community learning centers, who are 16 years old or
barangay multi-purpose hall, libraries or at older and beyond basic

Therefore, ALS program allows out-of-school children and youth to
