Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us want

to be and to look at the same. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Over the past few years, the advertisements have made great contribution to our
living standard. However, this phenomenon is also controversial when some people
suppose that it has a major influence on the growing similarity of human’s life style in
modern world. Personally, I partly agree with this viewpoint for a number of reasons.

On the one hand, advertising is becoming more and more popular. Therefore,
firms make the most of the growth of this industry to support their products become
famous. Consumer would afraid that if they cannot own these items, they will not keep
pace with the latest trends. In addition, smaller companies tend not to be able to compete
with these giant market leaders due to their difficulty of capital poured into advertising
programs. As a result, customers are often swayed to buy products from famous brands
rather than those made by less well-known enterprises.

On the other hand, difference is the long-run factor for the survival of any famous
brands. Beside familiar items, business never forget to give priority to special limited
editions merely for a specific group of consumers. Although these products might be
unable to provide significant sales because they are not for everyone, they can create
original brand name. Furthermore, it is also true that people have tendency to copy
other’s lifestyle, especially their idols. Many Vietnamese youths mange to buy the same
clothes, dye their hairs as their stars do. In that case, the similarity stems from the hobby
or the demand of human.

In conclusion, the influence of advertising on the similarity between each

individual’s lifestyle is undeniable. However, I still contend that it is not the main factor
leading to this trend.
