A 6th Grade Project on 
Social Justice and Environmental Integrity! 
Final Project Exhibition: Wednesday, June 5th from 5pm-6:30pm 
 
Scope of the Project​ (What you’ll do)​: 
You and a partner will research a social justice or environmental issue that is important to you. Determine 
a plan that you will implement in the real world to be an agent of positive change. This project asks you to 
explore the center of a social injustice or environmental issue. ​**This project requires three hours of outside 
community service connected to your research topic.

Bringing it Local!​ An important part of this project is to think and act locally. Small steps matter! Your action can 
create change! 
 
Project Parameters: 
 
Group Portion​: Each group must agree to research and create an action plan, sharing data and experiences to build a 
cohesive presentation finale. 
 
Presentation will demonstrate learning in three different areas: 
1. Understanding the Problem: Research,, Learning about different perspectives of the problem, and situating 
your voice in that conversation. 
2. Thinking Community! Contributing to the community (Proof of community service is required) 
3. Looking To the Future: Design a plan for the future to create a lasting solution to your problem. 
 
Individual Portion:  
 
❏ Complete research about your topic, including article analysis and website data collection. . 
 
❏ Each student will complete the following written project: research essay  
 
❏ Design and build a 3D geometric lantern to display at exhibition.  
 
Group Portion:  
 
❏ Each group will develop a presentation (Prezi, Google Slides etc) highlighting what they learned in their 
research, their community service and their plan for a future solution. (At exhibition, you will present as a 
group)
