Mini projects: UOP-2 (Separation Processes)

You have to demonstrate the versatility and generality of code with different type of
systems/problems. If you are done, show me. Later, you need to submit a 3-page project report.
There will also be 10 min presentation. You can use Platform-1: Excel, Mathematica or Maple and
Platform-2: Matlab, C, C++, Java or any other programming tools.

Project titles:

1. Generate T-x-y and x-y diagram of two-component mixture using P-R method.
2. Fugacity calculation for a mixture of components in different temperature and pressure
conditions. Use RK equation of state.
3. Write code to estimate bubble point and dew point with diagrams. Multicomponent
mixture. Van Laar method.
4. Design of plate-type absorption column – Determine number of trays and concentration
at each tray. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Concentrated solution.
5. Design of plate-type absorption column – Number of trays are given. Determine vapor
and gas flow rates and concentration at each tray. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary
mixture. Concentrated solution.
6. Design of packed bed absorption column – Determine NTU and height of the column.
Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Concentrated solution.
7. Design of packed bed absorption column – height and diameter are given. Determine
vapor and gas flow rates. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Dilute solution.
8. Design of plate-type stripping column – Determine number of trays and concentration at
each tray. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Concentrated solution.
9. Design of plate-type stripping column – Number of trays are given. Determine vapor and
gas flow rates and concentration at each tray. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture.
Concentrated solution.
10. Design of packed bed stripping column – Determine NTU and height of the column. Use
Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Concentrated solution.
11. Design of packed bed stripping column – height and diameter are given. Determine vapor
and gas flow rates. Use Antoine’s equation. Binary mixture. Dilute solution.
