A different story

“Once upon a time, there was a little girl with big dreams, but her dreams
were destroyed by the destiny that God chose for her.
She has two brothers, three sisters, a mother, a father and a grandmother
who were living together, until her brothers decided to go, one by one, to Italy to
find some work places.
They were happy, even if they were so many in a flat so small. They had
faith and hope and in this way they succeeded to get over all the bad moments.
So, when she was a kid she spent all the time playing outside with her
friends, not like the today-kids who spend all the time watching TV and, worse,
sitting in front of a computer. After that, the school took the place of playing time
and she became a young-lady who studied for one day when she wished to be
someone, someone important.
Her childhood was interrupted by the death of her father. He died before
she started the high school, so the high school isn’t too happy for her, either today.
After her father’s death she was terrified, she didn’t know what to do. Once she
started the high school the memory of her father was still alive, but the friends
helped her to overcome that period.
The worst part is that four days before Christmas and four months after
her father died, one of her brothers died too in an accident. You can’t imagine
what was in her mind. She wished to be in his place. She couldn’t live if two parts
of her soul were missing. Once, she was telling her best friend “It’s like I’m living
without heart. I don’t have any reason to live, but, now my niece is my only
salvation…” (her brother let a star before he goes there… up; she had three
months and she was the only consolation for the whole family).
At the moment she’s ok, just ok. Two years passed from that bad moments
and she’s immersing in books, she’s listening to sad songs and she’s trying to
forget… or, how I like to say “she is hiding in the passed shadows”. She’s the type
of girl who watches the stars every night hoping someone’s watching over her. She
misses them like hell, but she knows they will be there when she’ll need them. At
least they are not alone there, they have each other. She’ll never forget them
because she learned too much from them and they meant too much for her. The life
gave her a lesson that she learnt and she will never forget: we must value every
moment of our life because we don’t know what could happen and “the end of
everything” could come sooner than we’re expecting. The better part is that the
death of her father and brother approached her family. You know…it’s funny, but
the people start listening after you’re gone and this is true because for her brother
the family meant everything. At that moment she was too young to understand that.
She only wanted to play, but now when the life woke her up she realized that her
brother was right: the family must be the most important.
Regarding love… she never fell in love in the real sense (maybe once, or
twice, but who’s counting?). She had some tiny love stories, but nothing important.
She never tells what she feels for the only boy that she really cares about. She’s
afraid to fall in love, afraid that the boy she could love, won’t love her back and
she still waits for her “prince on a white horse”, not sure he could ever appear.
Now she really likes a guy, but she doesn’t know how to tell him this. He
says that he’s ok alone, so she didn’t try to tell him anything. They have the same
friends and they are hanging out every night, they talk a lot, they are laughing all
the time, they have a really good time when are together, but even so she’s afraid to
express her feelings. She tries to tell him step by step, to be sure that he
understands right.
She’s dreaming something like this: she, the boy she likes, leaving together
for the rest of her life, walking all around the world ‘till they get bored. They will
have two kids and they will be forever in love.
But that was just a dream because soon she found out that she has
leukemia. She thoughts that this is the end of her life. All her friends supported her
and after months she feels better, she was reconciled with the idea that she is sick
and she will never come back to the person that she was before.
The boy with who she’s in love finds out too about her leukemia and he
was scared that he will lose her forever. One day he spoke to her about his feelings
and she was very excited and confessed him the same thing. That was the most
beautiful moment of their life. Now she has a good reason to fight with her
disease. Their love was more and more intense; they were living a love that we can
see only in movies.
In September she turned eighteen years and as a gift, her boyfriend asked
her to marry him the next day; she agreed and the whole family was happy for her.
The wedding was something small: just the family and the best friends. They were
so happy; after all the silent months they were together.
After Christmas her situation became a little more serious. All the time she
was in hospital and she wasn’t feeling good. Her husband made everything for her,
but unfortunately he couldn’t make her feel better.
Now they are staying together in a small flat and they’re trying to tell each
other that everything will be fine, even if both of them knows that this is a big lie.
She is waiting for her big end, and he doesn’t know how to spend more time with
her and how he can farewell slow her.
