Explanation of Education Pathway

Once I got to high school I had more options to take electives that were related to
health care. Primarily I knew that if I wanted to become a nurse practitioner, the
time would be now. By focusing on having a good GPA and extracurricular
activities to stand out to colleges. A personal accomplishment of mine was to make
honor roll every year of high school. To attain this goal I set out a plan to make
sure I studied for tests, turned in my homework on time, took notes in class, and
asked questions. Focusing on one class at a time is always my strategy and if I’m
lagging in a class then I will focus on getting that grade up to stay consistent with
my other classes. To make it into the National Honor Society you’re required to
have a 3.5 GPA, nothing below a C, and is awarded to that individual by
sophomore year. Getting accepted was my greatest accomplishment and I have still
made it into National Honor Society consecutively. It wasn’t easy, it required hard
work and dedication and amongst all it felt good that my efforts have been
recognized. I have had the chance throughout my life to meet some people that
work in the medical field and I’m inspired by how they save lives everyday and
provide care to people in need. In order to become a nurse practitioner in the future
I will have to complete high school with the best grades I can possibly get. Get into
a four year college of my choice, preferably one close to home to have my family
close by. For example I would like to go to Portland State University to later be
enrolled in Oregon Health and Science University to get a science major which is
required to go into the medical field. What inspires me to achieve these goals of one
day becoming a nurse practitioner it to open my own clinic to help people get
treated whether they can afford it or not. Especially people who are undocumented
along with the elderly. I have a vision to change the healthcare system in my
community by focusing less on profit and more on people in need. I would like to
travel with non profit organizations and travel to third world countries treating
patients. A majority of these people don’t have access to proper healthcare and
being able to provide that would mean the world to me. Of course none of these
things will be possible if I don’t work hard now and stay focused on my goals by
taking everything one step at a time.
