Cienfuegos Club:
The Club Cienfuegos is a recreational center located in Punta Gorda and it is
one of the most beautiful places in the city. It was designed by Pablo Donato
Carbonell, an important architect in that period of time, and it was planned by
the signature Otero- Dorticos y Cortizo. The engineers were: Francisco Otero,
Eduardo Dorticos and Antonio Cortizo. In 1918 it was placed the first stone of
the building and it was founded on August 28, 1920 as sport society named
Cienfuegos Yacht Club. That same day took place the first rowing competition
in the Cienfuegos bay. In 1965 it became the Vocational Sport Center “Felix
Eden Aguada”. On September 5, 2002 it open their doors as nautical-
recreational product. The building is a fine example of the eclecticism in
Cienfuegos and it has three levels and is topped by a dome and four towers,
two of them are domes and two observations points, with beautiful views to the
city and to the sea. It was painted in white and the domes in green, which is the
color of Cienfuegos baseball team. Nowadays, there is a liquor store, there are
two tennis curt, and there is a swimming pool with snack bar and a recreational
park with games for the children as: crazy cars and wild horse. In the building
you can find a store where you can buy the souvenirs and there are also two
restaurants, one of them on the ground floor named “Marinero” and another on
the second level named “Café Cienfuegos”. These restaurants offer Cuban and
International food with buffet service. Here there are some pictures taken during
the Event of Petrocaribe, in 2007. Here there is a dance hall named La Terraza
with a snack bar named Bar Verde. Here it takes place night activities with
famous artists and you can enjoy a good night. Behind the building you can find
a Water Park equipments, the mooring and the Base Charter Blue Sails. The
Club Cienfuegos was declared World Heritage in 2005.

The Palacio Azul Hotel:

It was built in 1921, its first owner was Emilio Menendez Acebal who worked
with Torcuato Ruiloba, one of the owners of Punta Gorda. In this way Emilio
Menendez acquires the privileged piece of land where he built the house,
planned by the famous and engineer Alfredo Fontana Giugni. The building is a
fine example of eclecticism in Cienfuegos. In 1938 the house was bought by
Nicolas Rodriguez and Consuelo Trinidad, the daughter of the owner of the
Cigar’ Factory called: “Trinidad y Hermanos”. In 1955 Consuelo Trinidad dies
and your husband Nicolas moves to Habana. After the Revolution Triumph,
Nicolas gave the house to Cuban state, to Osvaldo Dorticos Torrado, president
of the Republic in that period of time, who at the same time gave the house to
Sport Institution in Cienfuegos. This building was closed 20 years at about. The
building worked as: The Center of Military Patriotic Society, later it worked as:
Pioneer Palace until 1998. After that it worked as: Tourism Palace and finally, in
2003, it started work as Palacio Azul Hotel with seven rooms, six of which are
double rooms (two of them with king-size beds) and one that is triple room.
Every room has a private bath, telephone, satellite T.V. and mini-bar. (Three of
them have balconies with view to the city and to the sea). There is also a
kitchen and a restoration room that offer only breakfast. On September 5, 2007,
in the 50 anniversaries of the Popular Rebellion in Cienfuegos, it open their
doors as: the first hotel in the country that acquired the category of hotel
Encanto, new hotel brand for building of great, historical, architectonic and
cultural values. Curious piece of information: Each room have a flower name
that is a romantic detail for people who loves flowers and plants: Marilope
(Cienfuegos flower), Mariposa (National Flower), Verbena, Orquidea, Dalia,
Margarita (Daisy) and Azucena (Lily). The service room is named Chelo, the
nickname of the former owner: Consuelo Trinidad. The building is considered
World Heritage since 2005 for being located in the protection zone. This hotel
offers elegance, comfort, excellent service and a family atmosphere and it is an
ideal setting for learning about the traditions and culture of Cienfuegos.
