Parents/Guardians,    
 
    The fourth grade will be creating mobile state floats for a “Parade of States” that will take 
place on  Fri., May 31st from 12:45­1:45 (approximately) . Parents may attend and also assist 
with taking home state floats on this day. I will have students randomly choose a state to 
represent in the parade. They will have some class time to research information and print 
images at school to use in creating a state float, but there will be work and assembly required 
outside of class.  The research packet is a resource students  can  use to jot down required 
information but will not be collected for a grade. The rubric provided is what will be used to 
grade the floats. The floats themselves must contain all required information. A state float 
consists of information presented on boxes, poster boards, or other objects related to the 
chosen state that students will pull along on a wagon (or other moveable device such as a 
skateboard). All fourth grade classes will line up and parade the floats around the back of the 
school on parade day. Drop off of floats should occur preferably on  Tues., May 28th  (no later 
than May 29th) for sharing and grading purposes. Floats may be dropped off before school 
(7:30­7:50) or after school (2:30­3:30). Some students are choosing to partner up with a 
classmate or child from another classroom, however the children will need to be able to get 
together outside of school.   There is a form that needs to be completed and sent in to 
homeroom teachers from both partner’s parents that this is going to be possible . Students 
should keep their research packets in their red “take home” folders so they have them available 
at home and school to work on when needed. If you have any questions regarding this project
