Have students sit on the carpet with hands in lap, eyes on me, and listing ears

Materials:
A Pet For Fly Guy book

Procedure:
● read the title next say the author is Tedd Arnold and then say this book was also
illustrated by Ted Arnold
● Tell them that the author wrote the book and the illustrator put pictures on the pages
● Ask them what they think it's going to be about and have students raise their hands
choose one student
● Every couple of minutes stop and ask them what is being illustrated or how something is
being illustrated
● Students will raise their hands and call on one student (different than the previous one
each time)

Assessment/Review:
Remind students that the author wrote the book and the illustrator put the pictures in the book

Wrap-up:
Have students go back to their seats and wait for further instructions

Reflection:
● The kids did well overall
● They enjoyed the story
● They got a better understanding of the roles of author and illustrator
