ICE BREAKER
ACTIVITY 2

A Snowball of Kindness

Ages 11-12/Grades 5 & 6/English

The Nitty-Gritty:

This ice breaker has students take a sheet of paper and write something

positive in it. It can be a picture, quote, or even a word of kindness. After, the

sheet of paper is crumpled up into a ball and thrown across the room.

Teacher(s) and students will all find a “snowball” to pick up. Signing your name

is optional.

Materials:

 Paper

 Pen/Pencil/Markers

Directions:

 Take a piece of paper and write something kind in it. It can be anything

positive that you want!

 Crumple it up into a snowball.

 Launch it across the room!

 Pick up any of the snowballs and unravel them. Look at your snowball of

kindness!

I learned about this activity in 6th grade. The only difference was that this

activity was used more as a “brain break” than an ice breaker. I believe that

small acts of kindness can bring a person a long way, so why not put it on a

nice note? I would hope that this encouraged students to try and help each

other out. You never know how a person is doing, and sometimes a kind word

is all he/she needs to hear to make his/her day a bit brighter.
