Crater Lake National Park
PO Box 7
Crater Lake, OR 97604
Park goers are not required to have previous experience in order to participate, but it is
recommended to be in good health. For families wanting to participate, children must be at the
age of eight.
“To get a sense of winter conditions, you got to get out on snowshoes. Even a few steps out of
the parking lot is a totally different experience. You see a lot more when you get out beyond the
plowed road,” said Dave Grimes, a Crater Lake National Park ranger.
This ranger-guided snowshoe hike is an off-trail tour through Crater Lake’s forests and meadows
along its rim. While trailing through snow, explorers will learn about Crater Lake’s winter
ecosystem.
“It’s amazing how many species not only survive but thrive in winter here,” said Grimes.
Space is limited and reservations are required to experience the ranger-guided snowshoe hike.
For visitors that would like more information or would like to sign up, please call Crater Lake’s
visitor center at (541)594-3100.
Crater Lake National Park is located in south-central Oregon and has been recognized as a
national park since 1902. Crater Lake National Park is the deepest lake in the United States and
the seventh deepest in the world.
