Summer activities at
Crater Lake National Park
Klamath Falls, Ore. (JUNE 24, 2019) – Crater Lake National Park is hosting numerous family
friendly summer activities in July through September. Crater Lake National park hosts two tours
during the summer, along with Guided Hikes and the Junior Ranger Program.

Family friendly tours hosted by Crater Lake are the Trolley Tours and Boat Tours. Trolley Tours
are hosted from July to mid-October. Trolley Tours invites park visitors on a two-hour
exploration with a ranger learning about Crater Lake’s history. The tour starts at Rim Drive and
drives 33-miles with numerous stops. Crater Lake’s Boat Tour is hosted from July to mid-
September. Families embark on a boat and travel through the lake with a ranger learning about
Crater Lake’s history.

Visitors are able to join a ranger on a guided hike and pick the difficulty of the trail they will
entail. Guided hikes offer families the chance to learn about Crater Lake while first hand
exploring. Hikes are offered from July to September.

The Junior Ranger Program offered at Crater Lake is available to children between the ages of 6
to 12. This program in the afternoon from July to Labor Day. Children participating can earn a
Junior Ranger Badge by completing seven of Crater Lake’s Junior Ranger activity book.
Children can also earn a Junior Ranger Patch by participating in ranger-led activities that are 20
minutes each.

All summer activities at Crater Lake are weather permitting. Families interested in Crater Lake’s
Boat Tour or Trolley Tour are recommended to book tickets in advanced. Reservations for the
Boat Tour can be made with Xanterra Parks & Resort. Reservations with the Trolley Tour can be
made by calling Crater Lake Trolley at (541)883-2609.

Crater Lake National Park is located in south-central Oregon and has been recognized as a
national park since 1902. Crater Lake National Park is the deepest lake in the United States and
the seventh deepest in the world.
