Preface
Internships are known for giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real
world environments. At the same time, they will also develop skills which will help them perform
better at their jobs.

Internships greatly increase the chances that a student will gain full time employment after
graduation. By using internships, students are provided with experience that will make them stronger.
In addition to this, their work ethic will increase, and they will be confident in their abilities.
Internships will also allow students to learn about time management, discipline, and effective
communication skills.

When students use internships, they will bring benefits to themselves as well as their
employers and the stakeholders.

We are one of such lucky students to have the chance of Internship during our M.Ed.
programme. We are grateful to Saurashtra University for developing such practical courses and
benefiting the students. We were lucky to have Late Shri Minaben Kundalia Mahila B.Ed. College as
our Internship institute. A group of six trainees were allotted to this college.

3. Observation Work:
By Observation Work, we are asked to observe the functionality of the college along with its
associated facilities. Any academic institute has much to offer to its students. We as trainees were
lucky to observe certain benchmarking features in this college. We were suggested and glad to
observe the following areas of this college:

 College Infrastructure:
The college infrastructure is well facilitated with 6 class rooms, 1 staff room, 1 library and 1
administration office along with necessary store room and sanitation facilities. The college also has a
shared computer lab facility with 40 machines that is used for computer practical purpose. The
college also possesses a huge ground that can be used for extra curricular activities. The college is
located in a very accessible location in the midst of the city. The students of this college are lucky to
have such facilities with which they can study better.

 Library facilities:
An academic institute’s quality can be seen from the collection of books and resources that it
has for the students’ reference. In short, it is the library that gives the added advantage to an
academic institute. This college is also having a very good library with a sincere and dedicated
librarian, Ms. Nisha Talatia. The library possesses the following categories of books for students’ reference.
Sr. No. Category No. of Articles
1 Subject Reference Books 2960
2 Extra Reference Books 560

college notices. It is well maintained and updated on regular basis.

 Student Work:
Apart from observation of some basic facilities, we have also observed students work. The
students, being a Girls college, are very enthusiastic and dedicated to their work. They are generally
sincere and obedient. We have observed the following work of students:
 Class Work: Though not compulsory, but the students do maintain a class work book
where in they write down day to day notes. Such work was quite impressive and satisfactory.
 Seminar Work: The students were very enthusiastic in taking seminars. They used to
bring their own handmade teaching tools for undertaking the seminar. Apart from their enthusiasm
they were found to be generally learned and prepared to take the seminar. Their confidence in taking
the seminar is worth appreciating.
 Lecture Planning Reports: The students very enthusiastically prepared their lesson
plans. Their lesson plans were very neatly drafted and developed. The professors had put good
remarks in their reports. In short, the students were quite aware of their task of preparing lesson plans
and they did it quite efficiently.
 Attitude: The most appreciating part of the system is the attitude of the students. The
students were quite possessing the necessary attitude that is required to a teacher of tomorrow. They
were found to be confident in their seminars, meticulous in their lesson plans and quite advanced in

4. Evaluation Work:
As a part of M.Ed. internship, we were also asked to do evaluation work of students.
Studying in M.Ed. we actually fall short of evaluation work of the students. However, the professors
at the college guided us to do the evaluation work that is under mentioned:

5. Co – Curricular Activities:
Apart from regular studies, if students are given a good platform for developing their talents
that such student perform well then rest of the lot. Co – Curricular activities gives the regular
curriculum a boost in understanding. Students learn better by doing then just by listening.
Considering the same we have performed the following co – curricular activities:

1. Group Discussion: In order to understand the topic of various Isms viz. Idealism,
Naturalism, Realism and Pragmatism, we used the concept of Group Discussion. Underneath
this concept we divided the students into four groups as per Isms. Then taking different topics
we showed students have a healthy group discussion. The topics that were discussed were,
the curriculum, the teaching learning method, meaning of ism and its effectiveness. The
students not only enjoyed the session but also took the benefit by completing a lengthy topic
in an easy and interesting fashion. The students agreed that by this was they could easily
understand and remember the topic.
2. Debate: Looking to the success of Group Discussion, we tried the concept of Debate in the
students. The students were given the below mentioned topics two days prior to the event.
The topics for the debate were:
a. Should students be allowed use of mobile phones in school?
b. Should students be taught in mother tongue or in foreign language (English)?
c. Should females / women be doing service outside home?
d. To put forward their agreements / disagreement for the famous quote of Chanakya,
“Shikshak Kabhi Samanya Nahi Hota, Pralay aur Nirman unki Goud me Khelte Hai”
The student showed their interest to participate in the debate and they were selected by
random method of pulling a chit of their name. Similarly out of the four topics one topic was
selected on spot randomly by pulling a chit. The students participated enthusiastically. The
even was anchored by Trainee Vishal Varia. The event was witnessed by the faculties of the
college and Dr. Anil Ambasan, HOD, Education Department, Saurashtra University. The
participant were quite strong in putting their statements in favour and against of the topic.

M.Ed. Internship Report A.Y. 2011 - 2012

The event was then concluded by a comprehensive speech by Dr. Ambasana, who counseled
the student as regards the qualities of a good teacher.
3. Meditation: This is one of the best methods for calming your senses and taking optimum
work from the senses. One such class for concentrating and focusing of senses was conducted
by one of our trainee, Mr. Dharmendra Vaghela. He very efficiently demonstrated the art of
meditation and there by showing a fabulous way of remembering what is done in the class.
The students were very sincere and dedicated in doing the activity.
4. Labyrinth Project: This is one of Psychological project that is taught in B.Ed. and M.Ed.
through which the trainee develops the skill of reinforcement for students. Through this
project the trainee is taught how help student overcome the errors that stop them from
progressing. The project was handled by Nakum Ramsinh and Dharmendra Vaghela along
with Gediya Hetal and Rama Parmar, the internship trainees.
5. Hand – Writing competition: In order to promote the use of good and legible handwriting in
the class a hand writing competition was conducted by Dharmendra Vaghela, where in, the
students were asked to copy some text from the book and a paragraph was dictated. All the
students participated interestingly in the competition. The other trainees viz. Vishal Varia,
Ramsinh Nakum, Gediya Hetal, Parmar Rama helped in the management of the competition.
6. Cultural Programme: On the last day of the internship a cultural programme was kept
where two songs were presented from the side of internship trainees, two songs from the side
of students and one Gazhal was presented from the side of Professor. Every one welcomed
the programme. The internship trainees then revealed their experiences of their internship and
showed their gratitude towards the college students and professors. The students also
gracefully commented on the trainees lecture taking skills. The professor Mr. Ganesh,
encouraged the trainees by his words of wisdom. The internship programme was then
concluded by presenting a token of love to the college as a gesture to the college.

6. Clerical Work and Information Gathering:

Internship is a very useful program where in the trainee gets to know all aspects of future job.
During our internship, we came across such task that we felt that is not of the teacher or faculty.
However, on doing the task we came to know that if the faculty does not do this task than no one else
can do the same. Such tasks include, making of time table, arranging students in to chronological
order of alphabets, distribution of material to students, etc.

The staff of college of was very cooperative in delivering valuable information regarding the
staff, student, library and other resources. Information gathering was a very interesting task as we
came to know many things through it.

8. Internship Experience:
This is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. All the people associated along
with the internship programme have been very co-operative. In order to justify all the different
experiences let us summarize it point wise.
 The very experience of going to the college for seeking internship permission was very
rewarding. The staff of the college was very welcoming and co-operated to the full extent.
The credit of the same goes to the our faculties especially, Dr. B.B. Ramanuj for creating
reference beforehand.
 The staff of the college is very co-operative, supportive and encouraging. Without their
encouragement it would not have been possible to conduct lectures in the class.
 The most worth mentioning experience is of conducting the lecture. On the very first
session it became very evident that one must do proper homework before taking the
lecture. The students on the other hand have become very smart and they expect much
from their lecturers. However, the students here were very co-operative and obedient.
 Observation of the student’s seminar was also a good experience. During observation, we
learnt that the faculty must retain their position to encourage the students. The present
lecturers were quite encouraging the students even when they did silly mistakes. We
learnt a very good lesson from this that one of the most desirable qualities of a teacher is
that of a motivator and encourager.
 Conducting a Hand Writing Competition was also a very good experience. Handing out
papers to students, asking them to maintain the speed and arranging them in special
manner was all a new experience. From this experience, we can not conduct such
competitions easily.
 The most worth noting experience is that we learnt to maintain class control. We found
that many a times students focus very properly and the topic that we think otherwise
continue for an hour get completed in just half hour. Such situation than becomes difficult
to handle. We must therefore prepare for two hours to conduct lecture of one hour.
 Co-operation amongst peers also was a lesson that we learnt during this internship.
 Team – Teaching concept was very interesting and effective. We as trainees also enjoyed
conducting the team teaching session.
In short, the overall experience of the internship was much rewarding and refreshing.
On one side we were bothering about starting the internship programme and on the other
side it just took off so well that it completed quickly and we just wondered if we had
some more days for internship.

9. Suggestions for Internship Programme:

Being students and benefactors of the programme, we fall short of suggesting or commenting
about the programme. The internship programme is a good one and is always essential in such career
oriented courses. However, we felt that the following could have been more useful:

 The internship duration of 10 days is just enough to give only a glimpse to the practical
world. Instead it should extend to a month or more time period where in we can get more
idea and abilities of doing practical work.
 It would be much appreciated if such internship programme can be conducted for around
one to three months along with appropriate stipend.
 Rather than taking internship only at one college or institute, if more time is granted then,
one must be allowed to work with more than one college to get proper experience.
