History

u Dates back to the Hindu and Buddhist in Indonesia 8th and 11th
centuries, and even in the sivijava empire. Into the 6th and 13th
centuries, they have evidence and carvings in the temples and
more complete records they have found to support this instrument.
The Gamelan

u Is a set of 10 Kettle of gongs made from brass and metal it is a


percussion instrument the metals used is bronze and or brass .

u The name of the Gamelan comes from the word gamel known as a
type of hammer in the Javanese language that was used by a
black smith, the gamelan is played with a hammer like mallet.

u They believe that this has a very long history in Buddhist kingdoms of
java Sumatra.
How the Gamelan is used.

u From what we understand it was used for music at weddings and


Royal family's gatherings and party's each family member was to
learn this interment and they were expected to play very well they
were judged on their knowledge and accomplishment of the music
and there achievement and wisdom of the music and interment
and there physical and mental stature.
