The Rats and The Elephants


Once upon a time their lived a group of mice under a tree in peace. However, a group of
elephants crossing the jungle unknowingly destroyed the homes of all the rats. Many of them
were even crushed to death.

Then taking of rats decided to approach the elephant's chief and request him to guide his herd
through another route. On hearing the sad story, the elephant's king apologized and agreed to
take another route. And so the lives of the rats were saved.

One day elephant-hunters came to the jungle and trapped a group of elephants in huge nets.
Then the elephant king suddenly remembered the king of the rats. He summoned on of the
elephants of his herd, which had not been trapped, to go seek help from the king and told him
about the trapped elephants.

The rat's king immediately took his entire group of rats and they cut open the nets which had
trapped the elephant's herd. The elephant herd was totally set free. They danced with joy and
thank the rats.

The Story of the Smart Parrot


A man in Puerto Rico had a wonderful parrot. There was no another parrot like it. It was very,
very smart. This parrot would say any word-except one. He would not say the name of the town
where he was born. The name of the town was Catano.

The man tried to teach the parrot to say Catano. But the bird would not say the word. At first the
man was very nice, but then he got angry. “You are a stupid bird! Why can’t you say the word?
Say Catano, or I will kill you!” but the parrot would not say it. Then the man got to so angry
that the shouted over and over, “Say Catano, or I’ll kill you!” but the bird would not talk.

One day after trying for many hours to make the bird say Catano, the man got very angry. He
picked up the bird and threw him into the chicken house. “You are more stupid than the
chickens. Soon I will eat them, and I will eat you, too.”

In the chicken house there are four old chickens. They were for Sunday’s dinner. The man put
the parrot in the chicken house and left.

The next day the man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and stopped. He was
very surprised at what he saw!

He saw three dead chickens on the floor. The parrot was screaming at the fourth chicken, “Say
Catano, or I’ll kill you!

A Rabbit & A Lion
Long time ago a rabbit and a lion were neighbors. The lion was very proud, and was fond of
boasting about his strength. And though they were such close neighbors, the lion looked down
upon the rabbit, and used to bully and frighten her. Finally, the rabbit could stand it no longer
and wanted to get her own back.

One day, she went to the lion and said,”Good day,


Respected elder brother. Imagine it, i met an animal over there who looked exactly like you, and
he said to me,”Is there anyone in the world who dares stand up to me? If there is, let him come
and have a duel with me. If there is no one, all of you have to submit to my rule and be my
servants!” “Oh, he was an can’t even light on anyone!”,added the rabbit.
“Oho,”the lion said,”Didn’t you metion me to him?”

“Yes, indeed,”the rabbit replied,”But it would have been better if I hadn’t. When I described
how strong you were, he just sneere and said dreadfully rude things. He even went so far as to
say that wouldn’t take you for his attendant!”.

The lion flew into a rage and roared,”Where is her? Where is her?”
So the rabbit took the lion behind a hill and, not going too near herself. Pointed to a deep well
from a distance, and said,”He is down there, in the well”.

The lion hastened to the well and glared angrily into it. Yes, there was his rival who even glared
back at him angrily. The lion roared, and his enemy roared back. The lion became so furious
that his hair stood on end. So did his enemy’s in the well. The lion showed his teeth and lashed
out with his paws to scare his rival – and his enemy in the well retaliated! In a fit of anger the
lion sprang into the air with all his might and then flung himself at the enemy in the well.

The result was that the proud lion was instantly drowned.

Kangaroos eat grass and plants. They have short front legs, but very long, and very strong back
legs and a tail. These they use for sitting up on and for jumping. Kangaroos have been known to
make forward jumps of over eight metres, and leap across fences more than three metres high.

length of 160 metres and weigh over 90 kilos.

Jack and the beanstalk
Once upon a time there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack. They were
so poor that they didn’t have anything except a cow. When the cow had grown too old, his
mother sent Jack to the market to sell it. On the way to the market, Jack met a butcher who had
some beautiful beans in his hand. The butcher told the boy that the beans were of great value
and persuaded the silly fad to sell the cow for the beans.
Jack brought them happily. When he told his mother about this, his mother became so
angry that she threw the beans out of the window.
When Jack woke up in the morning, he felt the sun shining into a part of his room but all
the rest was quite dark and shady.
So he jumped to the window. What did he see? The beanstalk grew up quite close past
Jack’s window. He opened the window and jumped to the beanstalk which ran up just like a big
ladder.
He climbed … and climbed till at last he reached the sky. While looking around, he saw
a very huge castle. He was very amazed.
Then Jack walked along the path leading to the castle. There was a big tall woman on
the doorstep. Jack greeted her and asked for the giantess mercy to give him breakfast, because
he felt very hungry. Although the giantess grumbled at first, finally she gave Jack a hunk of
bread and cheese and a jug of milk.
Jack hadn’t finished when the whole house, began to tremble with the noise of
someone’s coming. “Oh! It’s my husband!” cried the giantess. “What on earth shall I do?”
Hastily the giantess opened a very big cupboard and hid Jack there.

Once upon a time there was a girl name Cindrella. She lived with her bad step-mother
and two step-sisters. She had to do all the household chores.
One day the king invited all the ladies in the kingdom to go to a ball (pesta dansa) in
the palace. He wanted to find the Crown Prince a wife.
The step sisters went to the ball that night with their mother. Cindrella was left alone.
She cried because she actually wanted to go to the ball, too.
Just then a fairy godmother came. With her magic wand, she gave Cindrella a coach
(kereta), two horses and footmen. She also gave Cindrella a lovely dress to wear the ball and a
pair of glass slippers. She told Cindrella to come home before midnight.
At the ball, Cindrella danced all night with the Prince. The Prince fell in love with her.
At midnight, Cindrella ran home. Unfortunately, one of her slippers slipped off at the door. She
did not have time to put it back on. The Prince was sad as he could not find Cindrella again that
night.
The next day, the Prince and his men brought along the glass slipper. They went all over
the Kingdom to search for the owner.
After searching for along time, finally, they came to Cindrella’s house. The slipper fit
her. The prince was very happy to find Cindrella again. They got married and lived ever after.

A Fox
A fox fell into a well and couldn’t get out. By and by a thirsty goat came along. Seeing
the fox in the well it asked if the water was good. “Good,” said the fox, “It’s the best water I’ve
tasted in all my life. Come down and try it yourself.”
The goat was thirsty so he got into the well. When he had drunk enough, he looked
around but there was no way to get out. Then the fox said, “I have a good idea. You stand on

Tuberu Lombok
Once upon a time, there was a king who ruled in Teberu Lombok, who had a beautiful
daughter called Puteri Mandalika. Because of her beauty, princes and kings from other kingdom
around Teberu wished that she would be their wife. Six of them came to Teberu and ask for her
hand of marriage. They were Prince Bumbang, Prince Aryo Johor, Prince Singa Trasak, Prince
Daria Loka, Prince Gunung Piring and Prince Bungsu. Each prince wanted to win the hearth of
Puteri Mandalika.
Her father, the king of Teberu, was very confused and did not know what to do. If he
chose one prince instead of another then it would create jealousy and there could be war against
his kingdom. All the princes were handsome and powerful and so the king allowed his daughter
to make her own choice. But Puteri Mandalika was confused too and she also knew the
dangerous risk that her kingdom and people would get, if she chose either one of the princes.
After several days of serious thinking, Puteri Mandalika met her parents and asked her
permission to announce her decision in front of all the princes and the people of Teberu the next
day in the beach. Early next morning, everybody gathered on the beach. There was a gentle
breeze with small waves breaking softly across the shore. Everybody was looking at Puteri
Mandalika, waiting for her announcement.
Meanwhile, the six princes prayed in their heart that he would be the chosen one. Then
in a loud and clear voice, Puteri Mandalika Said, ”Oh my beloved mother and father, all the
princes and especially the people of Teberu Kingdom. Today I would like to announce that I
will not give myself to any one of the princes, but rather to all people of Teberu and my own
kingdom.” Then Puteri Mandalika threw herself into the sea from the top of a hill and
disappeared. Everybody desperately search for her but she could not be found and people
believed she was transformed into flowing sea worms called “nyale”. .

The Lion and The Mouse

nce when a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down upon him; this
Osoon awoke the lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and open his big jaws to
swallow him. “Pardon, O king,” cried the little mouse, “Forgive me this time, I shall never
forget it; perhaps I may be able to do you a good turn some of these days.”
The lion was so tickled at the idea of the mouse being able to help him. Then, he lifted
up his paw and let him go.
Sometime after, the lion was caught in a trap. Some hunters, who wanted to carry him
alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him in. Just
then, the little mouse happened to pass by and see the sad plight in which the lion was. The little
mouse went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bounded the king of the beasts.
Soon after the little mouse had finished gnawing away the ropes, he asked the lion to run away.

– Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut
in a farming field. He did some gardening and fishing for his daily life.

One day, while the man was do fishing, he caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the
biggest catch which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly, this fish turned into a beautiful
princess. He felt in love with her and proposed her to be his wife. She said; “Yes, but you have
to promise not to tell anyone about the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be a
huge disaster”. The man made the deal and they got married, lived happily and had a daughter.

Few years later, his daughter would help bringing lunch to her father out in the fields. One day,
his daughter was so hungry and she ate his father’s lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got
furious, and shouted; “You damned daughter of a fish”. The daughter ran home and asked her
mother. The mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broken his promise.

Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come. When
her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by non-stop pouring
rain. The whole area got flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the
man became the island of Samosir.
