Do you think that the world is going to be a better place in the next coming years?

decades? or even in centuries? Is it possible to end the starvation of all humans? Are we
courageous enough to give importance to our environment? Are we ready to uplift and
support humanity towards development, to fully eradicate extreme poverty and inequality?
In a simplest sense, do you still believe that the world can be changed?
Living in our world today with a lot of unfortunate events that restrict us to achieve
development. We are now in a society where some people make incorrect plans and
decisions that are not beneficial to everyone and to our home, earth. For some reasons,
because of our negative and excessive actions in achieving progressive world, we are not
aware that these movements or platforms are already harmful to us. Environmentally, by
cutting trees and destructing the habitat of animals in exchange for building establishments
cause negative externality that may affect every individual and can cause climate change.
Socially, extreme disparity in income and job opportunities are still existing. Economically,
some large corporations or companies are making reckless moves to gain profits for their
own interest. If these will continue to happen in forthcoming years, we won’t be able to
uphold good progress for the world and for the future generations.
In line with this, the United Nations came up in forming upright solutions to tackle
the problems that the world has facing today. In order to preserve our planet for the future
generations, the organization thought of planning in achieving a long term sustainable
development to avoid the enigma in our society. To better understand this, sustainable
development according to its definition, it is development that meets the needs of the
present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
In other words, we are making actions that could benefit the present and future generation
without destroying our environment. It doesn’t only focus on saving our ecosystem but it
also comprises of attaining healthy, firm and just community to ensure growth. It also
opens our minds to see the real situation of today that we might need to change our ways
by redirecting our steps and avoid ignorance to guarantee a safe place to live in.
With this being said, United Nation has made a major platform to reach their aims
concerning sustainable development. They have made seventeen (17) Sustainable
Development Goals to further meet their objectives in the forecasted date. As said by
International Institute for Sustainable Development, these are a global agenda, adopted
by countries in 2015, with a vision of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring
that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. This agenda will prolong for 15 years and by
the year 2030, the organization will expect greater change in the world. The goals are to
be applied in all countries regardless of social standard and everyone has a vital role to
play in order to undergo sustainable development.
In such cases, the following global goals made by the United Nation are the following:
First, in the year 2030, we will live in a world where there’s no extreme poverty. Second,
everyone has the food to eat where hunger has no room in our home. Third, provisions
for a better health care program for the humanity where death rate continuously
decreasing. Fourth, quality education for the youth and to those who did not have
opportunity to go to school. Fifth, we will patronize equality for gender not just for men
and women but also to the LGBTQ community where everyone has equal opportunities to
be successful in life. Sixth, we will live in a world where human can get better access to
clean water and sanitation. Seventh, affordable and clean energy will be used. Eight,
decent job opportunities will be given to all and the economy will prosper. Ninth, all
companies will not just function to earn for themselves but also to make others life better.
Tenth, we will continue to fight discrimination and eliminate income disparity. Eleventh, all
communities either urban or rural will progress in terms of economy. Twelfth, responsible
consumption and production to save our mother earth. Thirteenth, we will live in a world
where we will combat climate change. Fourteenth, we will protect and preserve our seas
and oceans so that fishes have safe habitat. Fifteenth, we will also take care our own lands
specifically the habitat of animals in the forest. Sixteenth, we will live where there is peace
in the world and all governments will be responsible and accountable to their respective
countries, justice and equal rights are present before the law. And lastly, all people in each
country will give their collective efforts to make sustainable development a reality for
everyone and not just a dream.
In my honest opinion, having sustainable development is not impossible to achieve. I
always believe that if there’s something you want to accomplished, you have to work for
it, you have to strive for it. One person alone cannot turn this development into reality.
Everyone must have the vision and the mission to passionately change the world into
something beautiful for the future generations. Yes, I still do believe that we can still see
the world to be a better place in the coming years if we will help each other to support the
2030 Agenda of the United Nation. Let us not waste our time and this golden opportunity.
Let’s make it happen not just for us but also for everyone. As what International Institute
for Sustainable Development said, “As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge
that no one will be left behind." Let us make a change!
