Macbeth’s Greatest Downfall

Macbeth a tragic hero with the greatest downfall known to people. The one to have the

throne then throw it all away so fast. The weird sisters had told Macbeth what hid future presents

and holds for him as king. So when he heard that he should be king his blind ambition had took

over so he would have power. He will do anything to have the power and do anything to keep the

power in his hands till death take death take it. Macbeth is at fault for causing his own downfall

and ruining his reign because of his blind ambition and having a weak mentality.

Macbeth is responsible for his own downfall which is portrayed through his blind

ambition as well as his weak mentality. When Macbeth received a message of being king he

immediately had thought of having to kill the king. Macbeth’s words were after receiving the

message was, “why hath it given me earnest of success commencing in a truth? I am thane of

cawdor if good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair.”

(Shakespeare 1.2.133-135.). So when he had heard of having power he started to think of having

to kill the king to get the power which would cause him to trigger his ambition t be king. Another

time where Macbeth was blinded by his ambition to stay king was when he feared his best

friend’s son would take the throne later on. He states in the play, “To be thus is nothing, but to be

safely thus. Our fears in Banquo stick deep, and his royalty of nature reigns that which would be

feared.” (Shakespeare 3.1.48-50). He was paranoid that someone will take the throne, so he hired

two murders to kill him and protect his reign. In conclusion if he keeps letting his own blind

ambition control him it will have a faster route to the bottom.

Macbeth’s other reason for causing his own downfall was his weak mentality keeping

him from being normal. Macbeth’s bling ambition was not the only thing that caused him to go

downhill his weak mind was another thing which lead him downhill fast. When Macbeth seed

the dagger in air he says, “Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?

Come let me clutch thee.” (2.1.32-33). He is all alone then he sees the dagger mid-air so when

talking to the dagger he is convincing himself to kill the king so it is hard for him to tell reality

from his own hallucinations. Also when he just killed Banquo he had seen his bloody ghost and

panic in front of everybody at the dinner. He says to the ghost, “What man dare, I dare.

Approach thou like the rugged Russian bear, the armed rhinoceros, or th’ Hyrcan tiger; Take any

shape but that, and my firm nerves shall never tremble. His mind can’t handle the death of

Banquo so his mind creates the image of a bloody ghost of his friend and he starts to become

crazy. In conclusion he slowly showing the people how crazy he truly is and will soon be

overpowered by the people.

Macbeth the person who almost had it all if it wasn’t for his blind ambition and weak

mentality to cause his own downfall. So Macbeth a man knew his own fate and what power he

would receive and still was his own downfall. Macbeth’s blind ambition and weak mentality was

huge part of his downfall. He would eventually going to reveal what type of person he truly is, a

murder, and crazy, unstable person. One thing to learn from this is nothing is promised you have

the free will to make your own future.
