Avengers infinity war first trailer visual rhetoric analysis

Avengers Infinity War trailer, produced by Marvel Studios, was released on November

29th 2017.The trailer, made of Marvel Comic fans, focused on convincing people to watch the

movie through theme of suspense. The director creates suspense among the fans by the medium

of pacing, change of tone and the mood set by the trailers music and voice overs. Overall, the

director does a great job by successfully creating curiosity amongst the fans and keep them on the

edge of their seat throughout the trailer.

First, the new looks and new costumes given to characters creates something new for

everyone to watch where it appears like an image inducer is used. Different new characters are

also used such as the fighting back Panther and Proxima Midnight hence giving a new look in the

world of acting. The pictures evoke the viewer to have more expectations of what will happen in

the future while evoking different emotion from the viewer. The movement of the images in the

trailers dictates enthusiasm and high activity for the characters. The new looks enable the viewer

to experience new feelings as a result of being exposed to new situations that have never been

common in films. It brings a new perception and motivates the viewer to perceive the film in a

different manner and positively compared to other films that use common characters or familiar

appearances.

In addition to the music which greatly integrated with images, the arrangement or framing

of the images gives a great flow of different scenes in the trailer. The images are persuasive and

convincing in a manner that combines well with the movement and sound in the trailer to form a

powerful interesting outcome. The pacing is moderate while sometimes changing too fast or slow

depending on the emphasis that is intended to be created in different situations. There are two types

of image movement which are continuous as well as discontinuous. The sound effects in every

part of the trailer match the scene that is played at that time. The themes played during killings

sound sad and dissonant to evoke emotions that clearly fits the situation.

The trailer starts with the piano tune of original theme of Ala Silvestri, while a number of

characters recite an original fury’s famous verse of the initial Avengers film which gives the

objective of creating the team. The persistent piano theme forms a nostalgic mood while leaving a

haunting atmosphere. At the time when the title card for marvel studios appears on the screen, the

strings come in in the form minor chord which is dissonant. The chord is sustained while the theme

of Classic Silvestri comes in creating a suspense of what is likely to appear next on the screen.

While Thanos is involved in an ominous monologue, the strings are played in the form of a single

drum stroke producing a dark melody which leaves the audience with a fearful apprehension.

Upon visible triggering of parker’s spidey- sensation three drum beats are heard which

sounds similar to an ancient drum playing. The sound of the drum beats symbolizes the future

events that are going to happen by creating a feeling or an indication that death, as well as

destruction, is nearing according to the context of the film. The music played immediately after

the drum beats evoke a saddening mood of the destructive effects of war. The appearance of

Thano’s image embodies a sign of destruction as well as death according to how the movie and

the trailer are filmed. Where destruction is bound to happen there are some specific melodies which

are commonly known to serve such purpose just as the one used to give a hint that Thanos is a

symbol of destruction.

While the builds further the exact revealing of Thano’s character is done, the carnage

encompassing him is emphasized by the interwoven clips that are displayed. The music suddenly

forms a melodic dissonance. The question of the possibility of the Avengers to defeat Thano’s is

a dissonant hence it is symbolized by the dissonance in the music. Several heroes are revealed in

the trailers with different costumes according to their roles which evoke different moods and

feelings amongst the viewers. The Avengers theme signs the doubts of that it is possible to defeat

the godlike nasty figure, Thano. The themes in the trailer give clues of what might be expected in

the film by using changing tones to create various moods suited to each scene.

The official trailer 1 of the film Avengers: Infinity war effectively achieved its purpose as

it was expected. It provides the best anticipation the film deserves and that anyone must have liked.

It accomplished a good combination of audio and visuals which marvel studios experts clearly

arranged in the best possible manner. The images evoke different details while providing the best

information to the viewers. The changes in the normal themes in the trailer greatly achieve the

objectives of winning the emotional heartstrings of the fans.
