RECOLLECTION

I attended the recollection on the 22th of February, 2019. At first, I

was so Irritated because it was so early. The call time was 7:30AM, and
for someone who is not a morning person, it will be so hard to attend
something that early especially when I have already done it several
times, because I came from a Private Catholic school during my pre-
school, and elementary, I was required to attend a recollection or
retreat in my school.
I went to the recollection. I met our recollection master, Brother
Rolan. At first, he was strict, he was monitoring everything, and he was
bossy. We waited ‘til 8:30 before brother started the session. At that
moment, when brother started speaking, I know that the recollection
will be life changing. Brother focused on how people abuse freedom. I
related so much, because his examples were like kicking me in the gut. I
was also taking my parents for granted. Just like my relationship with
God, I only remember them when I need something from them, but
because of the recollection, I realized so many things. I should thank
them and love them for everything they’ve done while they are still
here, because death is inevitable, but with God, life is eternal.
Without this recollection, I would not have reconnected with God
and appreciated my parent’s love, so I would like to thank my school,
SLU, for making this recollection mandatory, and our teacher Ma’am
Agustina Cayatoc, for encouraging us to attend the recollection. These
lessons will live in me forever in me.

RECOLLECTION

Recollection a gathering that is tackling Holy Gospel it resembles

the presence of God within us. At first I know that the recollection will
be good and fun because the recollection master was the one who
conducted our recollection during our grade 12, the recollection was
centered about us youth. The catholic church is celebrating the year of
the youth, so the main theme will be fit for us youth because we are the
center of the theme.

The recollection at first is so boring because it was so early and

almost nobody wanted to wake up so early and just attend the
recollection but as the time goes on it seems that everbody's attention is
on the recollection master. I know that the recollection will be life
changing. Brother focused on how people abuse freedom. Just like my
relationship with God, I only remember them when I need something
from them, but because of the recollection, I realized so many things.

I am so happy that I attended the recollection because it was so

life changing and it is a eye opener for what we should do and how to do
it proper
ASH WEDNESDAY

During the Ash Wednesday, all students were required to attend

the mass in the St. Bernhard Gym. The gospel was Matthew 6:1-6, 16-
18, and in Matthew’s gospel, Jesus talks of prayer, fasting and
almsgiving, now the three pillars of our Lenten season. Most instances,
our common understanding of this is something that is annoying,
because we will be deprived from something that we enjoy to do. In
short, the struggle to figure out what to “give up” for Lent. What we
should do, and should not do to please God.

But, realizing all these I can strive to connect and follow Jesus
more. All these sacrifices are worth it, because compared to what God
has done for us, these small things are nothing. I am ready to offer
everything to God so I should rejoice in this sacred occasion to cultivate
a true and everlasting relationship with God. I learned so many things
during the Ash Wednesday. How sacrifice works, and how I should
handle things in order to connect with God in heaven.

The most attracting line to me is that if I die I would go back to

ash, which only means Ashes are signs that we are all in this sin
business together, and that the difference between the good in us and
the bad in us is sometimes frightfully thin. We so often fall short of the
Faith we claim. We have treated people as things and we have treated
things as if they were valuable people.

We come from ash and we will return back to ash. This time of
lent we are given time to prepare ourselves in the coming of Jesus. We
will be able to fix ourselves and also free our soul and offer it to Him.
This season the way we can show sacrifices and also reminisce the
things we have done and things we should deal before the coming of the
Messiah.

Nowadays, we can see tons of books on parenting. There are even
podcasts and videos on how to be effective parents. Sometimes, these
make us think that with all those information, our parents should be
super cool and ideal right now. But then, we feel disillusioned knowing
that our parents are not flawless. Rather than fret, the best thing to do
is to go the extra mile by understanding that our parents are not demi-
gods but humans. It is a myth that parents are perfect and do not make
mistakes.

January 27, 2019 - Lk 1:1-4 ; 14-21

The last Sunday of January is celebrated by all Christians in the
Philippines as National Bible Sunday, and this 2019 it falls on the 27th
day of the said month. There so many ways in celebrating the Bible
month. The reading of the Scriptures is a public act and also a personal
act. We should not be content with relying only on the readings we hear
in the mass. On our own, we also set aside time to read the Bible. We
can also create group readings where you and others can read the bible
all together. After reading, we also take the time to reflect on the
Scriptures.

February 3, 2019 - Lk 4:21-30

Always fulfill what ever you wanted not being dictated on what
should you do but you must do whatever your heart feels because in the
end when you succeeded on the things you did the most you will see a
future and also ended up being successful on your choice.
February 10, 2019 - Lk 5:1-11
When you exerted an effort to a certain task or doing you will
given a reward not maybe the typical but someone would pay your
hardships. Losing does not mean being able to give up but the failure to
try is the time when you lose.

February 17, 2018 - Lk 6:17 , 20-26

The truth points us to the right direction. Don't be mislead by
incorrect information. If you take action because of false premises, you
will miss your mark. Truth also helps us make sense of events in our
life. There are things we don't understand yet but we later find its
meaning in the greater scheme of things.

February 24, 1019 - Lk 6:27 - 38

Loving your enemies doesn't mean deploying the active resistance
to evil, corruption and oppression. To love them means accepting that
people are different and unique and so we cannot expect them means
not giving judgments and extending out patience out of love for Jesus.

March 3, 2019 - Lk 6:39- 45

We cannot give what we do not have. To teach forgiveness is
genuine when we are ready to give it to someone else. Forgiving is hard
but when time comes you will find the forgiveness in your heart.

March 10, 2019 - Lk 4:-13

Giving up something during Lent is not an endurance test but it is
done to draw us closer to Jesus. The act of abstinence develops in us the
attitude of detachment from material world and create an empty space
for God to fill.
March 17, 2019 - Lk 9:28-36
Obeying God's will might be difficult and we cannot avoid
temptations in the beginning, however when we do it with love and
charity it becomes possible, habit forming and can be very rewarding in
the end. So, let us beg God's mercy to transform us every day to become
disciples.
